View Full Version : Speed 4 bargain of the decade

If this is serious, legit and doesn't magically get cancelled at the last moment...

I would IMHO consider it bargain of the decade. Note that the speedo can be converted from miles to K's by holding down some buttons (will look up in manual if necessary).

I have no association with this bike or it's seller other than thinking it's a bit of a bargain.

Checking his feedback he looks kosher.Used bikes are cheap in the U.S and he seems to have found himself a good little business.A lot of guys here did a similar thing a few years back importing bikes from the European mainland,Japan and America, really rattled the official importers.Serves the bastards right, prices here were such a rip-off that only now is a new Fireblade the same price as the CBR1000 was in it`s day.Grey importers kicked the shit out of the official guys and suddenly Honda,Yam e.t.c. gave up trying to tell us that having a different speedo and headlight added 20% to the cost of our bikes over German or Dutch ones.Keen price as you say Dave but I`d guess he`s quite happy with his mark-up,Speed 4`s a very good bike,if Triumph hadn`t over-priced it here it would have sold like the original Yamaha Fazer, more fool them for missing the boat on that one because the 600 Fazer/Hornet/Bandit market all over Europe was massive, still is.Apparently the Speed 4`s being superceded by something similar with the 675 triple motor very soon, now that`ll be a blast.

Yeah, there's a pretty conspicuous hole in their lineup eh? I bet that'll be a great bike ... I might just be able to afford one by then too.

They worked that out in about '04. The NZ price went from $14,995 to $11,995 (which you can still get the last new ones at). So even a new one is a great deal. Love mine. Just about due for the 30k service.

This has beeen on Tardme for a while. There has been a couple of bids at $7500 but apparently that was below reserve. He may have changed his mind on that now.
Great bike, can wholeheartedly reccomend.......good colour too!

I hope its serious, Im picking it up on Saturday!! Actually I know its all good the guy so far has been great to deal with. Looking forward to getting it down to Welly havent seen too many around. Must admit to being a bit of an impulse buy - only had about that much to spend and didnt think Id get the opportunity again.

Dave if youve got the code handy to change the speedo from Mph to Kph i'd appreciate it.

Cheers guys

Congrats on the bike. I'm sure you will love it.
There are several good forums that will give you lots of info on the bike:
www.speedfour.org
www.triumphrat.net

No problem.
If you didn't get an owners handbook with the bike www.speedfour.org has it on the site.
Set your sag front and rear (ignore the hanbook telling saying you can't adjust the rear spring - you can, no problem) then use the factory shock settings as a starting point.
Better still pay the money and get Shaun to do it for you (my next indulgence on my bike).
I bought mine at a similar mileage to yours and have done 22,000ks in the last 12 months with no problems whatever except to change the rubber chain guide on the swing arm (immediately crosses fingers of right hand and touches nearest piece of wood with the other........). On the earlier models the rubber was too soft and many were changed under warranty.
Devil has had his from new and has done more mileage than I have and I am sure he would give you any additional info you might want.

Another S4 in Welly - nice one! I'll fish around in the manual for the right code to change the instruments from Miles to K's.

You got an absolute bargain. Bastard!

Watch out if you do change the speedo to MPH especially after clocking up a few K's. Your grey matter is going to forget occasionally and trick you into to going "70" in a ""70"" zone and "100" in a ""100"" zone. Well that was my excuse anyway.

Its a good excuse too Bad Dad - I'll have to remember that one.

Well I just got it back home and its in showroom condition, not even the hint that someone might have had a remote thought of scratching it.

If anyones got any doubts about the seller I can put their mind at rest, great people to deal with, bike has even had a full service at a triumph dealer.

Well . . .another expensive blonde in my life - but Im not complaining.

Wont be able to ride it properly for a few weeks so will have to be patient.

PS Trumpy - who's Shaun??

Cheers Erin

Shaun Harris. Signs on as Shaun. Send him a PM to discuss a suspension set up if you would like him to do one (highly recommended by lots of people on this site).

Bearing in mind he is in Taranaki. Anyone know how long it takes to ride Wellington to Taranaki?

Once you get past all the silly speed restrictions out toward Paekak it's all good going. Just be aware that the road from somewhere south of Hawera to New Plymouth is a great little earner for Helen so she seems to have concentrated extra resources there. I rode from NP to Wanganui the other night and only saw three tax gatherers, two muftis and a HP car, all near Eltham on the way home.

Four hours should do it comfortably, allow extra for sitting around eating fish and chips or whatever...

The lenght of a piece of string is the measured distance between the begining and the end...hope that helps?...:dodge:

Hold down the select button for five seconds. It's not in the manual, but I tripped across it while trying to change the time on the clock.

Cheers Dave,

That was so easy and will make life so much easier than trying to work out what the speed is times 1.6.
