Sitting here, basking in the warm fuzzy afterglow of a good day out! Thank gawd I got my bike ride worthy again and made it! :woohoo:

Just pissing down now with liquid sunshine and my little bro is sucking down a cold brewski - we were meant to be spraying his car with a new lick of paint...but it can wait :devil2:

What can I say? Glad to see so many kbers and other supportive riders out there doing it!

Ixion

Will be doing the ride again next year, no metter what transit say.

Second that. Official or unofficial.

Man, I had a great time. Such a worthy cause to give our time and money to and what a great way to do it. Fantastic array of bikes and bikers from every walk of life. Just awesome!

Didn't even get a chance to make a donation this year. Went looking for the girls selling the badges/tickets, but they were not to be found. Apparently they had sold out. :(

Ixion
11th February 2007, 14:09
Yep. By the time I worked by way through the pack they'd run out of badges, run out of T shirts except for 3 XXXL and only had 3 sausages left (of which I had one).

They were taking orders for badges, for flok that collect them

SpankMe
11th February 2007, 14:12
Even if they had sold out of gear, they should have kept selling raffle tickets. It's all I wanted anyway.

Ixion
11th February 2007, 14:16
I suppose they only printed so many tickets. I saw some people who must have bought them in bulk.

'Twas a good turnout, a lot more than last year.

Odd feeling, doing 130+ kph down the motorway and having a wailing police siren come up behind one and give a thumbs up as he tootles past. Every innate instinct was shrieking "Eeeek!" .

Yeah well, my XXXL shirt will happily second as a tent or deck-awning I'm sure. Maybe I should eat more sausages and drink more beer to improve the fit? Great event and very much enjoyed it. If it happens again hopefully the logistics will be better able to keep up with the numbers. Great day out.

Yeeeeha I'm famous. I'm on (sort of) TV in the video. Thats me there, can you see me? Huh can ya!! Thats me and the wife waving.

A good ride, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Not too hot which was good. We also missed out on getting a badge but we ordered one for later and to contribute. I am surprised they do not grab a few volunteers to walk around with buckets and take donations, cause buying a badge seems to be the only way to donate. And I am happy that the helicopter is always there should it be needed. A good cause for people with our hobby.

This was my first time for the ride and I have to admit, I had a lump in my throat at all the spectators and support.
It was a magical ride.
Maybe Mr Hubbard might have a heart and tell transit NZ to quit their whinging.

Well, that was a bit of fun then, hope it happens next year 'cos I'll certainly be there again. Only decided at the last minute to go, and I'm glad I did. Was the first time the wee GN had done so many k's at full noise (so, about 95-100 :) ), all the way from the top of the shore down to Papakura. Awesome heading up the motorway again with no cars around!

Odd feeling, doing 130+ kph down the motorway and having a wailing police siren come up behind one and give a thumbs up as he tootles past.

Even odder was doing 120 on the motorway and having a traffic cop on a motorbike give me a sign to go faster...
I was right at the back so presumably he didn't want anyone behind him.

11th February 2007, 15:05
Yeah also I great time. Thought it was going to be really slow but managed to have quite a blast without all those cars and trucks. Didn;t come across anyone selling badges or t-shirts unfortunately so also missed out on the raffle. Great to be part of such a good atmosphere.

What a kick-ass ride.

Met the mini-tribe at Manukau and pootled down to the Autobahn, whereupon much bike talk and bravado was the order of the hour.

Then off to the meet point, and holy crap - a sea of bikes!

Went walking, got my (still unworn) T-shirt (NYAH NYAH!) talked more crap, saw the next 27 bikes I plan on buying, and then off we went.

Rode a lot, then a lot more...

Got to Akoranga campus, had an ice cream, got nothing in the prize draw, and pootled home.

There was more to it, but doubtless all the stories will be told in time.

Oh, and Minnie gave me my new sig! Thanks Minnie!

I was right at the back so presumably he didn't want anyone behind him.

Stranger than that, for me anyway, was doing 100 or so down Fanshaw St - which I ride down in peak traffic every day.

Also, being sort of near the front, when I was getting on the motorway again, I was seeing cars going in the other way and thinking, 'they are going to see bikes still coming off at Wellesley St'.

Well folks after being pillion on Rhino's GoldWing for many Westpac Chopper rides, I gave up my seat to a young fella (he had a grin from ear to ear) and went on my own bike!!! :scooter: :woohoo:

What an awesome event. It was great to see so many bikes. I am really sorry that many of you missed out on badges or T-shirts. More were ordered than normal due to the HOG rally. However no-one had predicted the power of negative publicity, which only hit this week, after everything was organised. I tell you as a badge seller, I was flat out and I had to fill my little bag several times!! The final time I went to fill up with more badges I was told there were no more and we had to take orders.

The ride itself was awesome, although I was up the front. The public support on the motorway overbridges was awesome!!! I tooted and waved as much as I could. It was my first time over the harbour bridge too!!! :Punk:

Good to catch up with lots of KBers. For those I missed, sorry, but at times there just seemed a sea of people and bikes.

Thanks to all for your support for this amazing cause. Roll on next year!!

The ride videos are coming online now via you tube .. but rather than spam the thread .. here's the link to my youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=WarlockNZ

The total ride is split into 10 min sections (because they have to be) and together, last about 50 mins :)

Awesome ride guys/girls, this is the sort of thing that not only raises a lot of money (13,000) for a good cause, but gives us all a chance to make a difference , just by riding and that is always a good thing .. and on a side note ... I think the "non riding" public, loved it .. not sure if it would raise an outcry if it was cancelled next year ?? But the citizens of Auckland would be missing out if it was :)

Dangerous and Rashika were at the Auotbahn and I managed to catch up with them before they headed south back to chch.

Check out the fine fellow on the left hand side of the second pic!

Both photos were taken about 30 minutes before the start and a lot more bikes arrived after that.

I am glad you all enjoyed the ride, :scooter: It WILL happen next year write it in your calender now. I can't promise that there will be nearly 1500 bikes next year unless you spread the word. Next year HOG will have their national rally not in Auckland. It was great to see and HEAR the Harleys, they are not my cup of tea but it was a good turn out because they were there!!!! You make this ride what it is, MORE BIKES MORE RIDE!! Also it has been suggested that the Auckland Rescure Helicopter Ride be called by it's correct name because West Pac is a bank (and sponcor) but people think that we are supporting a bank and don't realise that what we are supporting is a NON government supported venture!!! Yes the number was nearly 1500 bikes. Regard Richard:innocent:

Great pics and vids! Even saw myself in a couple! Not too flattering, I'm with jttzr on this point...

Took a couple of pics and vids, not sure how they'll post, though...

Seems the vids are an invalid format.

Wow!!!! what an awesome ride, just have to add my two pence worth, so many bikes....im really confused as what to get now once i surpass my dear wee ginny......
i was surprised at the speed which we went up there, thought it would be slow...got my t-shirt and ordered a badge......loved the support on the overbridges, i was tooting my wee horn as much as i could.
the scariest part was heading back south after the ride was over, thought i would be a good L plater and kept to the left lane, but found with people coming from the on ramps and speeding up and pulling in , i thought bugger it and found some nice space in the fast lane and the ginny went along nicely at 110km and found myself back at the karaka on ramp in no time at all, waiuku friends found me on the moterway and continued to ride with me, so we stopped for coffee on the way home.......a great day......cant wait for next year.....whos doing the toy run then????

Disco_Dan - Bugger that you have binned your bike..... and its now broken

But have you informed sunhuntin?
I was out at Wickedone's place until 8.15pm tonight and she didnt know about you not able to take her back to the airport in the morning at that stage.
In fact we were all chatting about that as I was getting on my bike to head home as you were going to pick her up at 9am.
She had her phone out at one stage and she took pics on her cell ph.

It might pay to contact her ASAP or organise someone to go and pick her up so that she doesnt miss her flight home.

Well I meet so many KBers today...... to many to mention. Nice to catch up with you all again.

I was up near the front of the ride....... and had fun..... waving with both hands to everyone on the over bridges and people on the side of the motorway......

Somehow the front group split apart from everyone else, after leaving the bottom of Queen street until everyone caught up again as we got to the bridge... not sure what happened there.

MahaMan - Indy's bike is a little sweetie.

Yep folks it is the first sportbike that I can reach the ground on with both feet. So imagine how he must look on it as he is so tall.

Yes indeed it was a good ride today, enjoyed it heaps more than last year simply becuase we a lot faster and not so hot. Thanks to warlock for getting a few mins of video of me on my bike youtube #5 and #6 …Shock horror...
Just hope it keeps on going next year. It’s a pity they ran out of badges and t-shirts today. I ended up with a t-shirt that was way to big for me so I gave it back and got them to order me “a” badge instead – an extra $10.00 can hurt as I did not want a refund for the difference. Im annoyed that TV1 didn’t show the ride on TV tonight, TV3 did but yet to see it, I guess Helen Clark and parliament members supporting gay marriages is far more important to her/him/it (wont be surprised if Helen will be next on the gay to be married list) and some old granny having a jump out of a plane. Apparently there was some flack on radio pacific this evening do to this not being shown by other riders and supporters. Seems the News does not want to show what good people do these days. Does not help the biker community/look.

Edit: It was also nice to see some KB faces again - I have not been on a ride for agers but hopefully that will change.. Maybe see you next week on the Battle of the Streets ride. Cheers

That was a rather large suasage you had in your mouth when I saw you Ixion? How much did it cost? it was a long line to get one, so they must be good???

(go on Ixion have a giggle)

I think they were $3.50 Chips and hot dog were $6. The sausage was actually quite small there was an inordinately large layer of batter.I would rate them only 4 out of 10, but , as always, they have you over a barrel, since they are the only source of hot food. Fortunately, I had half a dozen V and a large packet of peanuts in the glove box, chocolate and water in the other glovebox, and beer and Pepsi in the panniers, so apart from hot food I was self sufficient.

I got in before the line grew so long. Fist thing at such places , dive for the food.

EDIT: I do not giggle. Giggling and tittering are effeiminate and unbecoming . A quiet chuckle or hearty guffaw much better befits a genteman. The late Lord Chesterfield had some very laudable observations on the subject of laughter, indited for posterity in the well known series of letters to his bastard son, perusal of which I always think worth recommending.

EDITY EDIT. It has been drawn to my attention that the original comment may have been intended as a salacious inuenndo. In that you are quite wrong, since The Dover did not attend. He and Maurice were otherwise engaged.

Very well prepared! I was slightly less prepared and had only a bottle of water, two bottles of Red Bull energy drink and a ice cream container full of musli bars. ...it was sort of like an 'adults, Big Day Out' ?

...dont wear jandels because of the mosh pit
...dont wear jandels because you will lose your feet in an accident.

so the article basically said, that the more bikes that turn up the less money Helicopter gets? ...that makes no sense. whats wrong with this world! (dont answer that!)

EDIT: "Daniel, youre talking again." "im what? oh.. SH*T"

Very well prepared! ...

It was just my standard provisioning. On the road one never knows what may befall one, especially when travelling in uncivilised parts.

A small toolkit, a morsel of sustenance, the wherewithal to build a good fire, such simple preparations can be invaluable in the event of unexpected delays. My touring kit is at present rather deficient since I was obliged, much against my will, to subbstitute Monteiths Black for the specified Speights. However, I console myself with the reflection that , in extremis, one must shift as best one can, and when stranded in barbarian lands, even the inferior Monteiths will suffice to avoid a fate worse than death.

This was my first time for the ride and I have to admit, I had a lump in my throat at all the spectators and support.
It was a magical ride.
Maybe Mr Hubbard might have a heart and tell transit NZ to quit their whinging.

I hope so because when I spotted him he was sitting on his bike watching the bikes go past in Wellesley Street, he had the biggest grin on his face.

Bloody awesome ride... and a special thanks to those that made it special (and safe) for my little man. He's never done more than 25kms in one go before...

And yesterday we bumped than up a wee bit (like 6x...!). Huge thanks to Mom and Maha for sharing their bike with him... he was shy but loved it. And thanks to KittyHawk for watching his back on the ride home too. It really is appreciated.

He loved the ride - loved the blue bike, thought the people were cool and the Helicopter taking off was a real highlight... till he got home. Everything was eclipsed by the fact he was on the TV (he swears he could see the KB badge on my shoulder and his three helicopter badges - '04, '05, and '07) on his jacket so ... it's us!). LOL... I don't think so but that bubble was too cute to burst.

So that's two more heads I can promise you will be on the ride next year.

I laughed on the way home - he's progressing through the normal pillion things...
First - sit too stiff and hang on for dear life.
Second - Relax and enjoy the ride
He's at stage three... starting to anticipate corners and lean into them LOL...

Brilliant.

Good to see so many out there too. A great cause, and good day. Was strange being told to hurry up on the MW though. ... 120kph wasn't satisfactory ... I reached back, clamped the little man to my back and tapped it open to 140.... and slowly caught up.

WTF?

And a special word to the organisers... :niceone: :niceone: :niceone:

I walked up to Dick Hubbard at the meeting up point out at Karaka Bloodstock.

Said to him "This ride is to continue.........blah blah blah........."
He said "I hear you............"

So I reckon that so many people said the same thing to him.......
He was on the ride with us all........ so he now knows what the ride means to everyone and how much we support the Westpac Helicopter.

Didnt manage to see any of you Guys but hey too many people you know, next time maybe. Anyway heres my take on the weekend:

Saturday was too hot to do much, cleaned my bike in preparation for the Sunday ride and sifted around for most of the arvo. I used my bicycle pump to pump up my Bike tyres, seemed to work but the valve got so hot that it popped the connector hose. I glued it back with some epoxy last night and hopefully that will do the trick, otherwise will get a better pump, maybe spend as much as $15.00 rather than the existing $5 job. Still it did ok and way better than faffing around at the gas station.

Sunday was really cool. The Guys came around to our place to pick Richard and I up. Sounded really good when they turned up and I am sure the neighbours raised the curtains a bit to see what was going on. There was a BMW R or K1200, Bluebird, SV1000, 900 Superlight, Softail Custom and Me on the X. The ride was a bit different than I expected. The pace down the motorway was really quite quick considering the 40kph that I was expecting. I had my jacket half unzipped because it was hot, started doubting the wisdom of my decision once I hit 120kph for extended bursts and I was unable to get the thing done up. The pace slowed in the predictable spots ie Tiptop , Penrose and Spaghetti through Queen. Every one seemed well behaved and no close calls for me.

It was a real blast seeing the huge number supporters. I really really enjoyed giving it a crack through Fanshaw street at the bottom of town, I was following Ricky on his 900 superlight and had been separated by a coupe of bikes through Queen street, Fanshaw street was all but vacant so caught him pretty smartly...we were just about to rejoin the motorway and a fire engine came through the last intersection by Vic Park...anchors on then away.

Had quite a laugh because Ricky has taken his Micro cans off in preparation for sale, he has a beard, when we took off I saw his beard rolling down the road, like it had just jumped off his face. Then it happened again but I saw it better, in fact it was some of the baffle fibre getting kicked out of his can under acceleration, quite comical really.

Richard said that he narrowly missed being hit by a small soft pack that came off a Guys Harley on the motorway and more interestingly a Sporty (old and rough) kick itself into gear while the owner stood helplessly by. It launched itself into the fence or ditch at the bloodstock centre. Mental note, do not stand in front of unattended idling Harleys!!!

Glad to hear that every one had a great time, I for one will be doing it again...if we get the chance

thats the way it tends to work on a lot of group rides. any ride ive gone on, ive been told to stay near the front, cos the speed will be slower. but i always end up right at the back, doing a high speed to keep up. the tail section always goes faster.

The Ulysses Club have tried for years to get TV coverage on this excellent charity ride but TV 1 and 3 don't want to know!!! Yip bad press sticks!!!

Ive done a couple of little programes for a Ulysses member for a ride he runs called GOPAT
check it out here thats one of them http://www.thecommunitychannel.co.nz/wawcs014068/community_tube.html
this is the other

maybe if people could donate to me all there old gsxr oiler parts i could fix my bike and come along
failing that someone would have to pick me up and i could film and edit it and do something similar to these ???
what do you think ?
We have been trying to get a new tv channel up and running and hopefully we will be on air by march and might be able to give it some air time too( I have been working on this for about 18 months for no pay thats why my bike has got a bit run down) , i love bikes and have been riding most my life and bikes get a bit of a bad rap so would love to do something to change that !!!!!!!!
What say you????

They said it would be. It was an awesome event and well worth attending and giving a donation to a very worthy cause.

All the bikes and bikers from every walk of life - it was a real sight to behold and a fantastic event.
