The noises would of been fantastic in the flesh.Missed some I would rate high...but most likely not available....

The first Honda F1 cars,a V12 in the rear,the fist transverse I think,the inline famous for it's ''bundle of snakes'' exhaust system.

The Dick Mann Daytona CB750 in 1970 - this was the first bike that made the industry and public sit up and take notice,it was a scary insight into the future,you knew it from that day.Triumph/BSA came back the next year,and Dick Mann was on a BSA again,but it was a last gasp.

Eeerrrr a friend I know ,,,decrepid ole fella ,,Nott that I know him well I might add , saw the MV augustas race at the Isle of Mann ,,,Now that was a sound worth remembering

( a bit geeky I know but get the radio footage ,,Mike hailwood on the 6 doent shut off one bit ,,,all the others you can hear the throttle being rolled off..and if you have seen the area WHERE they are ,,, respect )

If I can find the photos ill scan them ,,,

I'll second that, nothing like a well tuned engine on full song.

Oi! less of the 'old decrepit' We late middle agers are still in our vintage years. I watched MV, Gilera, Honda etc in the 50s and 60s. Great to watch and listen to but for me the best sound was a pack of Manx Nortons hunting down Hailwood's MV on the short circuits with guys like Minter, Cooper and Hartle occasionaly beating him. When that happened you couldn't hear the bikes for the cheers.

Scarborough 1968. Not sure if he rode a Beart Norton. He was a top rider. Works Norton, Gilera and MV, but was overshadowed first by Surtees then Hailwood.

A great piece of history there, I wonder what happened to those machines, probably went to the crushers like Aaron Slights RC45s.

At least one of the originals was retained by Honda, and a few years ago was loaned to George Beale in UK to build replicas - he made 6 of them ad Two Wheels mag did a superb article about the construction. At the time there were a couple still available for around GBP250,000.

One of the pictures showed all the engine components - fantastically tiny. There is a con rod along side a credit card - both the same length, and a piston sitting on the same credit card, which is quite a bit wider than the piston.

There is a video on Google of one of the replicas being warmed up at Laguna Seca.
