Dang. Went for a blat after work on Friday on my recently acquired 2nd hand CBR1000 and had a nice ride out through Johnsonville, Tawa, Pauahatanui, over the Haywards, into Upper Hutt, back through Whitemans Valley, past Stokes Valley, Taita, central Hutt, and finally over the Wainui Hill road.
Got to the bottom of the hill, turned left at the roundabout heading for the Parkway extension, when I hit a patch of diesel on an uneven join in the road and dropped the bike at approx 50kays. The bike turned as it slid on its side, rode up backwards over the slanted curb that edges the grass median strip, the left-side cycleworks exhaust dug into the grass and the bike catapaulted up and over 1-1/2 times before coming down onto its nose (right hand nostril).
The right handlebar snapped off, the upper right fairing was mangled, the front subframe has a bit of a downward lean-on now, both wing mirrors are smashed, the left exhaust has been pushed up, the rear upper fairing/cowling has been broken, the pillion grab-bar smashed off and I am waiting on news from the bike shop as to whether the bike is a write off or not (forks, subframe etc).
Thanks to the young feller in the van that helped me get it up and off to the side of the road.
Personally, I only suffered a couple of grazes, a couple of cuts and a sprained ankle. Glad I was wearing my gears, though the jacket has come out worse for wear, and the skid lid met the road, so that too has been discarded.
Happy that I'm still in one piece, but really pissed off that I had to ride over a badly relaid piece of road that had diesel all over it, and the fact that my partner in crime convinced me I only needed third party ins cos I don't normally spill my bikes.
What I'm thinking is saving some pingers and setting it up as a semi naked bike, cos I really enjoyed riding the Honda (while I had it...) and don't want to be on the old GSX for much longer than necessary...
anyway, back to work now...

That's bad news. At least you walked away from it.
Do you have some way of reporting diesel spills in NZ? At least it may prevent another off.
Maybe NZ needs one of these: http://www.killspills.org.uk/

fighter it man great project takes alot of time but it will come together nicely. best road legal lights are the acerbis cyclops kit.. 55w low and 55w high better than most bikes stock system for light spread and usefullness and similar/same power haha. make your own indicator and guage mounts and you'll be sorted :)
and of course.. paint her matt black!
hehe always a positive to come outta crashing but yeah lucky you got away with it mate... good to hear you're fine apart from the bike.

Bugger dude, hate hearing about off's, esp when its caused by something like that!! Glad you came out alright though.

Shame about the catapault. If it wasn't for that damage may have been minimal. Important thing is no major injury. All the best with the repairs.

thanks for your comments people. Only had third party insurance as had never thought I'd do so much damage on a stoopid little corner at next to no speed whatsoever. My bad. That'll change in the future
Definitely VERY happy I had the gear on even though it was a warm day. It certainly paid for itself. (Days off work-vs-new gear)

Sorry to hear. While some say it's important to grieve, many others say move on and buy a replacement as soon as possible.

That's ratshit man. Probably another fucking bus dropping fuel everywhere. Very common around these parts at the moment. Wankers.

:( :( Sorry to hear about your bin, glad you're ok. It always seems they send the crappiest buses to Wainui. We've noticed that some roundabouts (eg near BP) get a bit slippery every now and then.

Funny how it is the ones near a petrol station, cage drivers over filling their tanks, then when they go round the next corner it all spills out:angry:
Good to hear you are not seriously hurt, hopefully you will be able to sort the bike.:scooter:

When I went riding down in the South Island we came across a few areas where Boy Racers had covered the entire surface of the road with deisel so they could do burn outs.Their cars were obviously not powerful enough to get up and go on their own, these types of tossers put everyone at risk including cage drivers. Imagine their surprise as they turn left at the intersection but find they are still going in a straight line.
If you ever catch pre pubescent idiots pouring deisel on the road do us all a favour and kick their teeth in!!!!
Enjoy the freefall while it lasts the next bits gonna hurt!!!

Sorry to hear. Since my last two offs, one which involved spilled oil at an intersection, I'm a little weary of cranking it over too far in built up areas. There is always that chance of something untoward on the road.

Hi Stunz
I'm recovering from a broken ankle and an uninsured bike. My fault but it's still a drag. At least your still alive.
