I'm normally a law abiding citizen you understand, but I've been having a few ummm encounters(?) with less than sympathic revenue collectors. A couple more instances have been rather too close for comfort, so I figured I'd invest in a radar detector from cartertonryan. In due course an Escort X50 arrived and was wired up today. I played around tonight trying to programme it, only partially sucessfully, then went for a test drive.

Coming down the home stretch some chirps from the detector so I slowed down feeling silly because I couldn't see anything. The detector though became very insistent and eventually a :Police: came into view.

I am very grateful to said member of the constabulary for providing invaluable familiarisation training for my new detector.

It's a shame about how the detector totally blocks the rev counter from view but I suppose if that means I actually spend time looking at the speedo that is some kind of a plus and another way of avoiding tickets.

As for cartertonryans pricing; my local dealer was asking for contact details today, I got the impression that the price I paid for the detector is less than what he pays his wholesaler...

Now, a new mantra, I must not get overconfident....

Welcome to the club,
The radar detector has slowly become a necessary bit of kit for those who like to actually ride there bikes rather than doodle about at near the speed limit ("Wait for the scorn & derision to be heaped apon me with gusto" !!! :whocares: )

My trusty old XR 950 - Pro has been my faithfull companion for about two years now & has saved my butt more than once

I don't condone or encourage going absolutely batsh*t on the road - but lets face it, the bulk of us do tend to find ourselves in the 140 to 160 kph zone once out of the confines of the big smoke and in the "groove" on a good long road ride...

Sadly - Mr Plod takes a dim veiw of such things :gob:

My take on things is quite simple, if said Mr Plod is allowed to employ unfair means to collar us having a bit of fun, then, wheres the problem in us employing our own unfair means to even up the playing field...?

The only thing I suggest you watch out for is the new "Stalker 2" equipped T.S.B (Highway Patrol) cars (they are being randomly trialed in both the North & South Island as we speak)... These things are the latest and greatest in there arsenal & emit no detectable signal when in "Stand by" mode...

Thus, our detectors are useless against them until such time as the operator "calls" the unit up (which takes the same time as it does for you to change the channel on the tele with your remote - about 3 seconds...) by which time it's all over rover

They are also capable of tracking and aquiring two targets at once, moving in opposite directions & of differing size which totally blows all the well used excuses out of the water :nono:

The only way I can see around the things, if they become regular issue, is to mount a jammer on your bike - that in it self creates a few probs as I'm led to believe these are illegal in N.Z...

Anyway - enjoy the little extra safety margin your new toy provides...

Cheers :Punk:

Unfortunatly there is no such thing as a radar jammer you could mount on your bike, only laser, and you see bugger all laser guns out there really

No worries - just twist the throttle until you hear the engine bouncing off the rev-limiter, then change up. :Punk:

Congrats on the detector - may it save you many times its weight in gold.
