New tyres for a cruiser

Hey folks, the tyres on my 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 are well and truly shagged so I'm looking for a new set.

Specs are,

Front: 130/90-16 67H
Rear: 140/90-16 71H

I'd like to hear what reccomendations people have on brand and model. So far the fitment guides I've checked come up with the 'MT 66 Route' from Pirelli, and the 'ME 880' from Metzeler. The Avon website wasn't very helpful as to identifying a model to suit my machine.

Also, I'd appreciate recommendations as to where to go in Auckland to get them fitted, with regards to price and service.

Hey guys, I need a new set of tyres for my bike, and I'd be keen to hear what other cruiser riders reccomend as far as brand and model. My riding is approximately 1/3 commuting, 1/3 touring and 1/3 fanging through twisties on the weekends.

I'd like something which will last over 10,000kms, which handles well and which will cope well in the wet. The Bridgestone Exedras I currently have are OK but there was never any tread pattern in the center of the rear and this has caused the tyre to spin a few times in the wet when riding over slick patches of tar.

Also suggestions as to a good place to go in Auckland to get them fitted would be appreciated.

I run Avon tyres on my bike and they have lasted well over the 10,000km....
in fact I have gotten over 37,000kms on Avon tyres.

I ride around 30000km/yr all long trips,not used for work.
I had a Prillei Route 66 on and it did 17000k all touring (long trips) Nothing went wrong with it. Have just fitted a Conti Milestone about 5000k ago and it is a totally different tyre, it sticks to the road very well and I have increased my cornering speeds by about 15k/hr. It handles the wet with no probs
Its wearing well,but I will have to replace those little wear pegs under the foot rests soon.
Still got a MT 66 on the front which is doing the bizo

Thirded - go and see Kerry at Motohaus (Western Springs Road, next to Motomail's outlet/old store).

The Avon site (http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle/?page=home) fitment guide recommends the Venom tyre for the Vulcan. Kerry stocks these, but he will also give you good advice.

Im runnin a conti milestone on the rear and love it, sticks to the road wet or dry and "feels " safe.
Had a MT66 which was ok but this one is a totally different tyre

Mrs H's tyre of choice on her Marauder is the Michelin Commander. Fantastic handling and wearing tyre -- way better than the OEM Dunlops.

Same as others, running Pirelli MT66's on the Virago. Fine for general dry weather cruising, but rather twitchy in the wet. I'll be looking for something better at the next change.
