Interesting that they say the Katana moniker was used on the things from 2004. It's been called a Katana since it's inception, 1988 , in the US market. Also it's long model run is testiment to Suzuki getting it right.

Anyway, happened upon this interesting article in a mag I got given. I know there are one or two fellow GSX600F owners on the site, and there have occasionally been questions about them from prospective owners, so thought I'd stick it up... cheers.

Thanks for that - more damning with faint praise. Real rider reviews always seem better for this as there must be a reason its still selling now!

Good on you 90s. It's a better bike than any review I've read would suggest. Much more in tune with real world requirements for day to day riding.

I agree! Had mine for three years, and although my riding has been pretty restricted due to health problems, I really have a hard time justifying upgrading it! It does pretty much everything I want in a bike and it's still only done 41,000km.

The latest GSX600F Katana is a bike I have considered once I've got my full so thanks for the info...will probably still let my arse decide once I can legally ride something bigger than 250cc.

Nup. Afraid I'm still in exile from the Motherland- but nearer than when I was in NZ. Living in Cambridge now. *sigh*

I have to agree with 90s; it does what I need so far... though as Gary says, it's pretty heavy for a 5'4" girl of moderate proportions, even if I am a bit of a gym bunny! At the same time, though, I find it easier to manoever than the Bandit 400 I had before, as there's more turn in the bars and a lower centre of gravity.
I haven't had any significant problems, but as the review suggests, there do seem to be rust issues; my down pipe has started blowing- and I have a nasty feeling the problem may be more widespread. Generally though, I am pretty happy with it.

Getting dangerously close to Dover territory here!

Well, rust on 20-yr old bikes is to be expected I suppose. Find now I am used to it mine feels not much heavier scooting about than the lightlight RG. Glad to have got the old "left foot" trick to the centre-stand now though.
Did manage to park at the bottom of a steep drive and then found it was a real bugger to turn around and get out though. Suppose there's a reason those Goldwings have a reverse!

Last week there was an '88 same colour as mine (and the one in Jazzbugs article) on TM going to $3k with 40k on the clock. I got mine for $2k with 90 on the clock and there seems to be quite a few about. One was for sale in the forum here recently for $2-3k.

We've got a 98 model with only 3000m on it at work for $6k.....

Thats not a bad review really considering what some reviews are like.

I'm going to do a review soon on my '06/'07 GSX600F which is meant to be the same frame etc as the 90's model with updated fairings etc (also has a clock). I'm hoping to do it after the first service (1000 k's), have about 150k's to go, but only ride any distance in the weekends

As they say, why go out for hamburger when you've got steak at home? erm, the hamburger being an R6 as cheekily implied in that earlier article, the steak the GSX ... erm, this is going nowhere metaphor-wise really :dodge: .

Oh, as I have mentioned in a previous thread, when my bike was the old Haldane's I checked it out against the new. Apart from the shape of the lights / "vent" on the fairing they were more similar than I would have thought!
Still if it works why change it?
