View Full Version : Binned it....

Well i binned it. On my way home from wickedones' after the westpac run, going through the roundabout just after the little shell petrol station in riverhead... both wheels just disapered from under me and i slid from one side of the roundabout to the other. The bike went sliding into the opposite kurb. If you look at the pictures you will see the diesel.... farking diesel all over the road!!! arrrgghh!!
few people stopped and helped me get the bike off the road, in the time that i spent popping on 'my handy spare brake lever' a cyclist slid off and several cars fishtailed... then a bike came down... ran over to try and slow him and his pillion and they went back up the hill to warn people.
so glad my helemts fine, but draggin jeans look a bit 'holey' now... :innocent:
Flipping eck... what a long day...

Wouldn't it be nice to find the prick responsible for the diesel.

Ahhh that was you on the other side of the roundabout (I turned toward riverhead). Didn't stop because you were upright. You've gotta watch those trails that just dont seem to dry in the hot sun (a sign that something is out of place!). There was a spill before riverhead township as well, which was marked by cops, now they've chucked sand all over it.

right hand side pipe (not the can) is completely squished from hitting the curb. So new pipe will be needed...

...well only if theres more than about 5 litres...but in reality if theres something slippery on the road we can A wash it off...B get someone to come put sand on it...all you do is Dial 111 ask for fire service and say theres a diesel spill which has caused an accident ... fire truck arrives decisions will be made , problem will be sorted.
Its not a hassle.

Either way round abouts are notorious for diesel and oil spills.
Still glad your ok.

Yeah, I hit some "have no idea what it was" kinda fluid on the road yesterday avo and got some serious fish-tailing coming onto the Waiuku-Glenbrook Rd, would say that I am lucky that I was spat out the other side, still one with my bike, laughing like a hyena.
Sorry to hear about your off, hope the bike heals quick :)

[the first being my partner, who taught me how to pillion] and as for him getting lost....i didnt mind in the slightest. for someone who hasnt been to auckland for roughly 10 years, getting lost is the perfect way to see things!
disco....let me know what parts you need, make model and year of the bike, and ill see what my mechanic/wrecker friend can find.

Hey Disco Dan
Glad that you are okay… we stopped to see if you were all good, we were in Red Commodore and pulled up on the grass next to you andh your three lady attendees who stopped to see if you were okay too. Yeah that oil slick started pretty much at the roundabout, so definitely the worst of it was there and then went on for about 500 metres along Riverhead Road towards Kumeu then they must have pulled over on the side of the road probably realising that their cage wasn't running so well. See ya

Ok after looking at the pics and which way the spill is going then I`d say the truck is from the Kumeu area or its come from just back down the road, theres an earthmoving outfit or two in riverhead and if you take the back road to Kumeu then theres a lot of trucks that park up just a bit further up.
But yeah Id say that spill was fairly recent like no more than an hour old, going by the fact that it hasnt yet seeped across the road and is to uniform as stated previously.
they might have been able to track that spill back to the truck if the fire or police had been notified immediately.
