Disclaimer:I'm writing this semi-drugged
Showed up Friday to try and get some practise laps in on KZ's K2, Spent all morning getting it going, then got two sessions on it.

Went out in practise on Saturday morning, was trying to go quicker and quicker when I locked the rear wheel changing down into splash on the 3rd or 4th lap. Spent the rest of the session studying how the fast guys went about it.

Thanks to Kicking Zebra, I borrowed a peg and gear lever to get out again, and Two Smocker for lending me a rear sprocket to get my gearing in the right ballpark.

Went out in the second practise session and was much more comfortable with the bike. Qualified pretty far down the grid.

First race Snuday, I went out and started chasing Jason down after passing cleve and someone else. Got lapped by a few fast guys, then when Craig Shirrifs came past me into turn one I thought I'd try to stick to back of him and get a bit of a tow / learn how to ride quickly. I wound the throttle open at the same point as he did exiting turn one and remember seeing my front wheel underneath me before rolling off the track and crawling up the tyre wall. Caught a lift back with the medics, and found that I had a sore shoulder.

That was my weekend. I spent the rest of the aftrenoon in hospital. My left collarbone is broken right through. The bike broke a fork leg, and brake line, has a big scratch on the frame, and may be bent.

I won't be racing again for quite some time

Thanks to, in no particular order: Cleve, Nicksta, Keystone, Kicking Zeb & Bronwyn, Two Smoker & Chloe, Vtec, Mum, and everyone else who I may have misplaced (see top line)

Huge thanks to Carbines Engineering for providing me the bike to ride this summer.

heal fast dude. saw you go down. and saw the bike later.

you'll heal up fine, mine's ok now. taken a few months, but no surgery or anything and it was in 3 pieces. you'll get frustrated after a while but it will heal, no matter how bad the break. Only thing i can think of that i wish they'd done to me is to align the bones now before it starts healing - that should help it heal quicker.

Hey Gav. That was a real bummer.

However the lesson is every time you pass me you crash.
JUST DON'T PASS ME and you will fine.
OK? :innocent:

Get well as soon as you can. Maybe at the April 1 PMCC final round?

:( Gonzo Gav eh! Bummer to see you had a Muppet moment yet good to see injuries are fairly minimal, considering. Rest up and heal well.:doctor:

Bugger Gav.

Make sure you get good treatment on the collar bone as it heals. Since they can't be put in a cast and it's hard to stop them from moving around, they can take ages to heal. Mine snapped a second time, in the same place, with only a small hit.

All the best. Make the most of the down time :niceone:

Bad luck fella ! If its any consolation I did a similar thing at a 6 Hour race in the seventies. A certain Mr Crosby came past me and i thought," he doesn't seem that fast "! Two laps later I'm upside down going into the sweeper ! You'll be back ! Gaz.

Best wishes for the recovery Gavin. At least you were going fast enough to fall off - unlike me!! I broke my collar bone when I was a wee nipper like you and it hurts like buggery for a couple of weeks then felt better after 4 and was good as new after 6. It should be stronger then as well, as the bone grows back thicker. Hopefully a quick recovery and not like Phil's. Not withstanding your off, what a great weekend.
See you (racing?) on the 1st April maybe?! Once again, hope you have a speedy recovery. And remember - drink beer, eat solids.

If it had 4 cylinders I would've gotten flicked higher
