Well, its been around 18 months since Riff Raff got her opportunity to hang off the back of an outfit 'round Pukekohe, I chickened out or had to work that day or some shit. She's loved every day of telling me how awesome it was and what a poof I am so wen the offer arrived, there was no way I could turn it down.

Divvo spent the previous evening winding me up with coments like "You ever had a broken colar bone" and "You'll be buying the piss when ya fall off you know", I put on a brave face and told him I wasn't scared of him but watching the big number 27 long chair pass the Lawrence brothers like they found a reverse gear, had me a little concerned.

In the pits and on the 10 minute call, Kickaha (thanks mate) gives me 5 minutes of tuition and says "Thats more than I got, get out there." Fuck. Should my mouth be this dry?

Leathers and helmet on, sitting on the "chair", Dave fires the 1300 up. Your heads right next to the airbox and whoa baby! this thing sounds angry. We roll down pit lane and I'm buzzing, tryin to remember the scant advice given. Sue's down in the hairpin with a camera so I hope to god I at least make it that far.

We're waved out onto the track, and start picking up a bit of speed. Poor old Dave trys to keep the thing going in a straight line as I scramble all over the back looking for hand holds and trying to get sort of comfortable (sorry man). Cruisin' through turn one and the esses, I'm thinkin, this is pretty cool, a little bumpy but good fun. Exit Castrol, I hear the thing start to wind up then "Fuck me, we're goin a bit quick". Remembering Waricks advice of giving myself a relax, I try to bury my head behind the body work. The rig seems to be not accelerating so Ipoke my head up and Daves busy trying to give the crew on another bike a high five. WTF? Brakes on, and just before the hairpin, I throw myself over the drive wheel, grab the lowest hand hold, and hang on like fuck, thinkin "Christ I hope that looked good for the camera"

Dave started to wick it up a little from there. You can tell quite easily because the 10 inch slick on the back is howling and the outfits accelerating like you've got no fucken idea. Through the lefts before the hill, I got braver eachlap, tryingto hang off as much as possible, head right down by the chair wheel. Had to @duck@ a few times to avoid the tyres on the inside of the turn. Later Warwick tells me I didn't need to that much as Dave likes to hop the wheel over the curb there.

After 4 laps I was absolutely fucked. Sweating like a pig, arm pump to the max and thoroughly amped. It was without a doubt the biggest buzz I've had on a track and I'd do it again in a heart beat. Except 65 kg of White trash aint worth shit when it comes to getting almost 200 hp on the ground.

Huge thanks to Divvo for A. Not chucking me off as he threatend and B. Letting me experiance the thrill of an outfit and Kickaha for the spot on the bike and coaching and of course the lovely Riff raff for the cool photos.

You've got some serious thrill issues dude. Was speaking to a bloke who is involved in a meeting of some sort down Taupo way later in the year "come down man, you can have a crack on ours, we do $10.00 rides so you can get the feel of it"....Ahh maybe, well see *walks away thinking theres no flippin way on gods earth that I would ever do that*

Thanks guys.

The thing that really concerned me prior to the ride, was that as a *fairly* accomplished road and track rider, was the lack of control. I thought I'd just be along for the ride. Not so.

I was that busy trying make sure I did what needed doing (aka, trying to stay on) I really felt as if I was riding. Just differently.

You don't get the smae felling of speed you get on the straight (or I didn't) as a bike. I had my head buried behind the body and could ony see the track through the gaps in the frame. Through the turns, you're concetrating THAT hard on being in the right spot, that you really don't have a chance to think what else is going on. For example, when Chris and Ritchie Lawrence came skipping round the outside of us in turn one, I didn't even notice 'till they were ahead of us.

Felling the oufit want to change direction as I climbed over the top (far to early) for turn one was an experience I'll never forget. I remember now that I should of stayed over the rear wheel for longer, trying to get a little more grip. I was a little anxious to get down behind the bodywork to prevent getting blown off the back of the thing. Not that the sound of the rear wheel spinning is all bad, it's just not terribly good for lap times.

Ahhhh, fuck it, who am I kidding. I'm hooked. And broke. Fuck it.

As far as the sidecar 'Have a go day' goes, it's on Sunday, October the 14th on the old track at Taupo. Invite all ya friends along, as it is one day not to be missed (as you would know WT). Fun for all ages and abililities. Definitely not a day to try and inflict any pain on anyone..... unless that's what you're into.....

Don't talk to me about sidecars and collar bones mate! Mine's still hanging out the front of my chest from my 'turn'! And I would've shouted the piss, except in was in PN hospital....

You're right though....MAXIMUM RESPECT to the sidecar crews. Hugely physical. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and bloody good of the guys to let you experience it. Sounds like you had a blast....and that doesn't surprise me, as you're a sick bastard. Me? I've never been so terrified in my entire life, and I'll not be going near one EVER again!

Shit! Four days too soon! So not fair!
We arrive back on the 18th of April and will no doubt be jet lagged as buggery... so I guess I'll just have to wait until the next one. Still, hopefully in the meantime I'll manage to make it onto the track on my own bike to have a bit of a go... though I think I'd better get a new rear tyre and front brake pad before doing that! Good thing I'm bringing a few £'s back with me!

I shouldn't be so quick to leap onto a sidecar anyway... bit of a thrillseeker lately (went on the big rollercoaster at Blackpool over the weekend... what a rush!). Not like me to be a thrillseeker... scared shitless but doing it anyway whereas in the past I was scared shitless and no way am I doing that! I mean, if WT nearly managed to soil himself, and from what I've heard he's not adverse to thrills... I should be taking it seriously.

I wonder if my weight could be a problem though? WT said he weighs 65kg and someone else said 55kg. I weigh over 80, would that be a problem?
