Started the racebike one and still waiting for the onset of winter to rear it's ugly head to finish it off...........looking out my window it might be sooner than first though :gob:
And YES it is a repost. If I can remember rightly SARGE put it up about 1 year ago and challenged for someone to complete one.

IF I can figure out how to get the lines a bit darker (tried printing the VMax one but I couldn't even see it on the paper...) I'll try and finnish the one I started. Then might give that ultra-realistic one a go.

I started the R1 around the beginning of 2004 (according to my post in that first thread). I hadn't done any more on it since then until a couple weeks ago, now I've got the tank, frame, and front forks done.
I can't believe the detail on the large MT01 model they're in the process of releasing!
I intend to finish the R1 sooner or later....

It was worthy of mention, even if, strictly speaking, it appears it wasn't due for a repost until 2008...

A few years back now some of my workmates made them up. They need to be printed out at least double size (A3 instead of A4) or they are too fiddly to make and rip too easily. This info might help anyone planning on building one. Look pretty good when they're finished.

I finally finished the R1. :) It's about 3 years after I started, but there were big gaps where I didn't do any work on it at all, and when I did work on it I only did a little bit at a time.
The final assembly didn't go all that well, the swingarm was about 3mm too wide for the frame, the fairing was pretty awkward to put on and I had to unglue a few bits to get them in the right place.
I like it, it's quite unique. Dunno if I'll build another one any time soon though.

Is there someplace where I could get the plans printed onto cardboard at a 1:1 scale? A life-sized cardboard R1 in the lounge would be pretty cool.

I'm not entirely convinced that Yamaha's efforts to cut the weight of their bikes won't affect the build quality...
... and I had to unglue a few bits to get them in the right place.
Glue? Real origami doesn't use glue. Even cutting the paper is a bit suspect ...
This is just conventional model making.
[Edit: Not that it's not impressive model making; it's just not origami]

Once you've built yourself your paper Yamaha, you can go and build yourself some paper roads and a paper town to ride through:

<hints id="hah_hints"></hints>Nice bike, but those tyres look a little suspect to me. Major triangulation; too many track days? Looks like a few too many burnouts too.
That is some serious patience -- I'm envious! Very cool.
