Hello chaps and chapesses.
Hope you had a great day, should be back from the hot pools now though.
Thanks for a warm introduction to our first KB meet, it won't be the last.
It was great for the pair of us to have conversations that weren't with each other, (cruel as that sounds), and I will extend my apologies in case I offended/annoyed/pissed off anyone, don't recall doing it though.
We got back and went for a walk down to the Taupo Thermal Spa, a lovely hot stream running into the river, and that wrote off any idea of coming back for the evenoing, it knocked the pair of us for six.
So, plan now is to curl up and tune into the MotoGP. Sad isn't it, I'll do anything to kill the time til theXJR arrives.
Have safe rides home, catch you again peeps.
Steve and Haze.

Hi All, a special thanks to all those on the gathering at Turangi, we had a great weekend and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, just a magic day saterday around the western access rd, and to all those who helped keep my speeds down to the limit!!! "Ya failed" just who was that lass that said "I cruise at 110-120" Wouldnt be QC would it,:gob: and Chancyy, it aint any wonder you dont have a speedo, ya wouldnt believe the thing if you saw it anyhow :-) LOL anyhoo, it was a pleasure meeting you all in the flesh, and hope to see you on another KB'er run, We shot back via Taupo, 15min stop, then onto Tokoroa to drop in on some friends, 15min stop, then on to cambridge, through the back to Gordonton-Taupiri and straight on to the shore at 12:00.( mostly dry roads) hope you didnt head west cause it looked real foggy and damp over there... a heap HP's on the road but managed to duck in behind where it mattered :-)

Hi All!
A huge THANKS to all who got on their bikes (or put their bike on a trailer then rode the bike later ;)) and made the effort to attend. Both me and Qkkid throughly enjoyed ourselves and I don't think we could of got a better bunch of riders if we tried! All the way from a RZ350 up to a Boulevard 1500 we had bikes of all sizes but all the riders were rather worthy of their motorcycle licenses. :yeah: I didn't see or hear of any bad riding so a big :2thumbsup too everyone for riding safe but for also for enjoying themselves. (we know why too - Bennydale to Whakamaru :gob:)
6 of us had a rather rapid trip home via Western Access through the back roads to Cambridge, had lunch then out through Scottsman Valley then out to Morrinsville then to Tahuna making our way back to the main highway just north of Huntly (Ohinewai). Managed to dodge most of the showers, had a bit of fog before Lake Arapuni but the roads weren't too bad. Nice and quiet, bugger all traffic. In the end I think me and Qkkid did in excess of 1200 over the three days.
During the week I hope to post up a ride report detailing what/how/why/where on the KB Gathering. NADROJ could we perhaps have a sample of some of those awesome pics you took?
For those who were asking - YES there will be another Gathering, same time, same place for 2008. Lets make this an annual event! :wari:

Umm... Yeah, like what they said. An excellent weekend thanks to the QKies being the ones to get off their proverbials and organise it for us.
Yep i paid no tax this weekend ,more money left in me pocket for another ride hehehe
I cannot believe none of us got stopped by any tax collectors. There were a couple of funny moments on Sunday tho when QKKID and I thought we saw one in the distance.
Once again cheers to the QKies and to everyone I met at the gathering. The rest of you soooo missed out.

well it sure was worth the wait ... the weather pretty much played the part when it counted .. excellent company .. only a weeeeee bit of alcohol drunk ... one very late nite ... or early morning .. ahhh the things that make awesome weekends
again thanks to the qk's .. will definately book this weekend for next yr ..
yesterdays ride was awesome, very well organised, great communication & quick catch ups on the way kept everyone in the loop ..set off in the sunshine ..but did not take long to find the fog, great chance to stop & have a coffee food stop while it lifted ... that was some of the most excellent roads i have ridden in my weeeeee short riding life .. LOL seriously would love to do it in the dry. Can honestly say after doing the ride right ride safe course my riding is much smoother & cornering is not freaking me out like it used too .. (thanks for the advice from the qks .. was meat in sandwich for a wee min or two .. following dawn & watched her .. but had steve up my arse & he could easily see what I needed to do to corner even better ...... & it works :Punk: thanks guys :D had a wee practice again today .. hehehehe )
after lunch 6 of us decided to cut straight down the western access to get back & have a wee snooze (after the very late nite) & this was absolute fun .. nadrog & pritch 008 headed off into the sunset .. that left 4 of us & we followed Julia on a nice easy pace & was a great cruise home, thoughly enjoyed that bit of road ...
(ohh yeah that benneydale road .. farken noice   ohh it sure helps having no speedo .. but noice to see the Boulevard 1500 in my rear vision mirror .. I might not have a speedo .. but at least i do have mirrors )
well after having a 18 hour day on sat ... combined with quite a bit of JD's & 4 hours sleep it was a pretty early nite last nite ....
Since 86 & I had trailered the bikes up ... (rescue vehicle .. truely), no hurry to get home today & a nice weee flick to the ski feild .. & a few scenic points on the way home ..photos to follow ... loaded up the bikes & trekked home .. 3 cops on dessert road but they did not seem interested in a bighorn trailering 2 bikes
thanks to 86 for the excellent company as always & for driving my tired ass up there on sat (who else could I be cheeky too  :innocent: )
Quicks for putting the weekend together
& to everyone else for being a great bunch of friendly ppl who turned up ... see you all next yr for sure :Punk:

Thanks for a great weekend guys. Nice to meet you all and get to know some I'd already met better.
Bloody cold through Taupo this morning, it was bliss to get to the Bay of Plenty coast - just beautiful and lots of bikes out on the Pacific Highway.
That's a great little camping ground (especially with the hot pools and truck stop near by) a good place to all meet up.
Look forward to doing it again some time.

Great weekend guys, met some nice people, had a safe ride up with them. Was awesome atmosphere, although I was in full drivel mode by end of the night.
Pity I had to off sun morning, had a wife missing me:love: & a new bike project that showed up friday afternoon that needed some fettling (look out for F5's new bike thread in a day or so).
Glad the ride went safely. Will be there next year!!!

Outstanding weekend
Well I can honestly say that after attending the ride right ride safe course, my cornering has also improved, also being able to figure out why I was not handling the right hand corners as well as the left helped too.
After finishing work on sat late afternoon (& being a hectic week glad we trailered the bikes to Turangi – thanks to 86 for driving my tired ass up there) after an equally late nite chatting to everyone it was time to hit the hay for some much needed rest before the Sunday ride.
Sunday & the weather came out a pearler crisp clear morning, 10 am meet for a riders brief (can tell the quicks have done this a time or 50) Thinking I was going to be the slowest rider there, & also the most inexperienced I did not want to become TEC, thanks to 86 GSXR & Koroj for assuming that role.
Well destination set … off we went towards Taumaranui headed off & of course the speedy riders shot off into the distance, kinda figured that everyone would pass me .. which is totally ok but I was surprised as I passed my first bike on a nice wide sweeper corner (having no speedo certainly helps) & had a couple of other riders join me for a few ks before they took off into the distance, by this time we had ridden into some major fog & being on a road that I did not know I took it relatively easy. I starting thinking about each corner where I needed to be to navigate it, could I see through the corner or was it blind (could I see through my visor .. so rode with it open) .. was there any road markings telling me of a speed I should be doing (not that I would know how fast that was)
I must say knowing that there were still a bunch of riders behind me totally gave me the confidence to relax & work on what I needed to concentrate on which was corners.
Once we reached our first petrol stop a decision was made to stop for coffee & give the fog time to clear, this was a great idea, cause it certainly was not warm. Approx a hour later we left & headed towards Ongarue this sweepy road was a ton of fun & I had Betsy cruising through at approx 8.5 thou revs .. what ever speed that is , but once we turned off .. thought crap the road was very wet covered in leaves & could see nice green moss .. hmmmmm I vaguely remembering in another thread the danger of these three hazards so decided to take it quiet
Since the two riders in front were caught behind a car I quietly caught up to qk chk & was able to follow her through corners & got some great lines to follow .. this was a more tighter road & with the hazards care was still needed. As qk kid had been the one to turn us in the right direction once the TEC came through he caught us up & spent a few mins behind me & watched as I was cornering .. at the next stop point he said I was not downshifting enough for the corners & explained why I needed to do this, so absorbing this wee insight & knowing how the corners felt stuck that bit of info to my brain as the next bit of road was fast wide sweepers & sure put a smile on ones face.
After lunch at Whakamaru 6 of us decided after the late nite that we would head back down the western access & this bit of road was fun, got a chance to practice qk kids advice on the corners & what a difference it surely made .. had more power coming out of the corners & since I ride with 86 GSXR a lot he can see the improvements, I am faster but more importantly more smoother, have way more lean on the bike & totally get into the zen feeling (still riding to my capabilities .. no one elses)
On the Monday 86 & I took a quick flick up national park road to Whakapapa ski field again took the opportunity to place myself on each corner & as this road was shiny & wet in places again backed off the speed & concentrated on how I was tackling each corner. Awesome stuff, the total weekend was a great learning experience being on strange roads with a number of conditions to deal with, & getting those wonderful zen moments that really just make you smile & leave you feeling very very satisfied.
................ just wanted to add here .. this weekend was desperately needed as I have been burning the candle at both ends & seriously need the down time. All of the KBers I have had the opportunity to met are some of the most friendly, helpful bunch of guys & gals, & thank you for the wonderful time/information/ride/company you have all provided .. Is it next yr yet ??
& just wondering if we should organise a summer venue to make the most of some dry roads & warmer temps
GeoffM thank you so much for the Dyno offer, I think I might have to take you up on that (be heading up north again end of yr) .. really curious as to how well Betsy performs .. she may have been the smallest bike there but did not miss a trick thank goodness just    this bike .. & thanks chick nice to know someone else appreciates the smell of the two stroke :D
& Mrs Tri boy (Karen) will give you a call next week & come over to Hamihole for a coffee :)
