"Only a few days and the biggest Motocross series in the world will explode into 2007 as the fastest Motocross riders in the world battle the sandy circuit of Valkenswaard in Holland for the opening round of the World MX1 and MX2 Motocross championship. .....Coppins still has to be the big favorite entering round one, but names like Strijbos, De Dycker and Ramon look dangerous, as do De Reuver, Leok, Nagl and Philippaerts. Overall the MX1 class is going to be very, very exciting."

Press release:
Josh Coppins wins opening round of the 2007 FIM MX GP series.
Yamaha factory rider, Josh Coppins, has raced to a superb overall victory at the first round of the FIM MX1 GP series in Valkenswaard, the Netherlands.
Coppins had a good gate jump in moto 1 and powered his way past Belgian, Ken de Dyker, moments after the start to take the lead in front of 25 000 spectators. De Dyker retaliated in the same lap with Coppins watching his every move from behind in second. With 6 laps gone “Lizzard” pressured the Belgian and took back the lead with De Dycker fading with every lap. Coppins posted fast and consistent lap times on the rough and technical sand circuit and took the checkered flag, over 15 seconds ahead of rival Steve Ramon, for his first GP win of the season.
The final decider would see team-mates Jonathan Barragan and David Philippaerts lead the start of second 40 min + 2 lap race with Coppins pursuing in third. The Kiwi made his way past Italian, Philippaerts, however he lost too much ground on Barragan who succeeded in opening up a comfortable gap. Coppins tried to close the deficit with a few minutes left on the clock but had to settle for a strong second and his first overall win in the 15 round series.
“This is a great start to the season. I didn’t expect to be this fast in the sand but we have been putting in some hard work on the practice tracks and in the pre-season races and that has paid off here. I took my time in the first moto to get past Ken as I knew he would not be able to run a fast pace for the entire race. Once I was out front I controlled the race and won with quite a big gap. The second moto wasn’t as easy and I tried to move in on Jonathan but he was riding really well so he deserved the win in the second moto. I am happy for the Rinaldi Yamaha team - we achieved more than our goal today,” explained an elated Coppins.
The second round of the MX1 GP series will move South to sunny Spain where the hard pack circuit of Bellpuig will see Coppins start with a 6 point lead.

Press release:
Coppins makes it a double victory at Spanish MX GP.
Factory Yamaha Rinaldi rider, Josh Coppins, has dominated the second round of the FIM Motocross World championships in Bellpuig, Spain. Rain showers on Saturday forced organizers to cancel the qualification sessions which meant riders only had an a combined warm up and timed training session to get accustomed to the muddy circuit.
Coppins posted second fastest time and rolled onto the line for the first moto with confidence. He just missed out on the hole-shot to American, Mike Brown, however it didn’t take the Kiwi long to take over the lead and build a comfortable cushion. Coppins controlled the race from the front and took the first victory with 20 seconds to spare.
Powering his YZ450F to the hole-shot in moto 2, Coppins was unchallenged as he put his head down and once again worked on a steady lead. A faultless ride saw the New Zealander cruise to his first double victory of the season to take maximum points.
“I’m really happy with the result today. After Valkenswaard we worked on a whole bunch of little things and these have definitely helped. The Yamaha has been really awesome on the hard circuits so I came into this race with a lot of confidence and a good feeling. The weather made the track conditions difficult and one-lined and I knew it was important to get a good start. I need to stay focused and take this momentum through to Portugal next weekend” explained Coppins.
Coppins will return to Belgium for a few days before heading to Agueda in Portugal with a 19 point lead in the MX1 World championship.

Press release:
Coppins ties on points at Portuguese MX GP.
Josh Coppins has narrowly missed out on his third consecutive GP win at the third round of the FIM Motocross world championship in Agueda Portugal. The factory Yamaha racer had to ride through the pain barrier with a suspected broken toe sustained in the Saturday’ practice session, however Coppins still notched up a determined 1-2 result for second overall.
Feeling uneasy going into the first moto, Coppins let his adrenalin take over any pain and discomfort as he passed Kevin Strijbos around the halfway mark of the 40 minute moto. The hot weather conditions and rough circuit took their toll on the pack however Coppins managed to use these to his advantage as he took first honours.
The second moto almost ended in disaster as Strijbos drifted wide in the first turn risking taking himself and Coppins out at the same time. Coppins chased down the Belgian as both had to race through the pack and passed him to move into second spot. Strijbos retaliated a lap later and clinched the lead with Coppins hot on his heels. With ten minutes left the duo had pulled a sizeable gap on the rest of the field and it looked as if it would be a fight till the end until Coppins backed down and settled for second.
“I had some problems this weekend and couldn’t really ride how I wanted,” explained the Kiwi. “I tried not to think of the pain and did the best I could under the circumstances. I haven’t lost any points in the championship but it still would have better to keep the winning streak going. We have a bit of time before Mantova to heal so I’ll keep working hard and look forward to defending the red plate.”
The Italian GP in Mantova, will take place on the 6th of May which gives the GP teams and riders some time to recover from the long trek back from Portugal.

Press release:
Coppins strikes back to win Italian GP
New Zealand’s MX1 star, Josh Coppins, has bounced back to win both moto’s of the Italian GP in Mantova. The Factory Yamaha Rinaldi rider used good starts and smart riding to extend his lead in the FIM MX1 world championship series.
With arguably one of the most exciting MX1 opening laps in history, the sellout Italian crowd were on their feet. Coppins lost some positions while the dog fight ensued up front and smartly kept out of trouble. Crowd favourite, David Philippaerts and Marc de Reuver, tangled in the fight and went down, allowing Coppins to make a move on Belgians Strijbos and De Dyker to take the lead. De Dycker retaliated but Coppins quickly stamped his authority on the race and took control to the checkered flag.
Track conditions were considerably tougher in the second moto but Coppins was placed well at the start and took his time in getting past, fast starter, Mike Brown. “Lizzard” seemed to be settling into a good rhythm when a challenge from Ken De Dycker caught him off guard. Using his head, the Kiwi regrouped and re-passed the Belgian with five minutes left on the clock to cruise to a double victory, his second of the season.
“It’s no secret that I don’t like this track and it was pretty obvious yesterday. I worked really hard with the team. The Yamaha Rinaldi guys were very smart in making some decisions for me. We really improved the bike over the two days. I knew my race pace was good – I just couldn’t go that little bit extra to put the whole lap together so I had to be a little bit smart and fight to the end. The first moto was crazy – a lot of guys were trying to win the race in the first ten minutes but I just let them do their own thing. This is probably my best win ever. I kept a cool head and played it smart and did better than ever expected.” commented Coppins.
Coppins heads round 5 in Teutschenthal, Germany next weekend, with a 36 point advantage over championship rival Kevin Strijbos.

RACE REPORT 06/05/2007
Sensational double for Coppins and Cairoli in Italy
Joshua Coppins
Yamaha's emphatic presence in the MX1 and MX2 World Championship continues as Yamaha Motocross Team's Josh Coppins won his third Grand Prix of the year and Yamaha De Carli's Antonio Cairoli maintained a 100% record with his fourth consecutive success at a sunny and warm Mantova circuit for the Italian round and the fourth meeting of fifteen in the FIM competition.
The Mantova layout had been altered slightly from the course that opened the off-road racing calendar in February. The track, with its rough, sandy terrain and many jumps, won praise from most of the riders for the challenge it offered. The facility is unique in the way it is compacted in a squared 'stadium' setting, allowing wide views of most of the circuit.
The first MX1 moto was a collection of incidents. Marc De Reuver started brightly and held fourth position behind Coppins in the early stages. On a surge of confidence the Dutchman took off to challenge David Philippaerts for the lead but the pair collided in a tight left-hander and both went down. Ken de Dycker moved through to head a four rider group but Coppins attacked right away and the duo swapped positions for several laps until De Dycker faded. For the last third of the race Coppins was not overtaken, although Tanel Leok kept him close company; the 30 year old rode comfortably to his fifth triumph from seven motos. De Reuver re-started outside of the top ten and eventually took the chequered flag in a humble twenty-third and out of the points.
Joshua Coppins
Coppins again faced the threat of De Dycker in the second sprint. The former team-mates tangled before the New Zealander backed off to observe his rival. After four laps he was able to regain ground on the Belgian and swiftly relegated the 22 year old to second spot. The Rinaldi squad were naturally thrilled with victory at their home Grand Prix and Coppins cited the triumph as the best of his career after battling some set-up problems on Saturday. Further good news lay in store when De Reuver (sporting a close-cut hairstyle instead of his traditional lengthy locks) crossed the line in third spot for his second top three MX1 moto finish with Yamaha.
Tanel Leok in second place and Sebastien Pourcel in third both made their first appearances on the podium, Coppins was able to extend his lead in the MX1 series by 17 points over Kevin Strijbos (who was fourth overall) and now enjoys a 36 point advantage. De Reuver's efforts leave him tenth.
Joshua Coppins
Josh Coppins, Yamaha Motocross Team:
"I'm pretty happy. It is no secret that I don't like this track and it looked obvious yesterday but we worked hard with the team, and Yamaha were really smart and made some good decisions for me. We really improved the bike over the two days. I knew my race pace was good but I could not go that little bit extra for a flying lap. Today I had to be a little bit clever and head-strong and fight to the end. The first moto was crazy because a lot of guys were trying to win the race in the first ten minutes. I let them do their own thing. I almost got caught up with Marc when he fell and that was a near miss. I started to ride better after that and gave my best. I had a pretty good idea that I could pass Ken again in the second moto. He had a couple of better lines so I let him go but I wondered how much energy he had left and when he started to slow I was confident I could lead again. I think this is the best win ever for me simply because I have never done well at this track and today went much better than I expected."
Carlo Rinaldi, Team Manager, Yamaha Motocross Team:
"It has been a very good home GP and I am very happy mainly because the weekend did not start in the best way. Josh did not feel very comfortable on this track and we struggled on Saturday to get him running well with the bike, so we were not expecting such a good race. Josh showed one of his very positive characteristics though and reacted strongly. With good starts he had the patience to wait for the right moment to attack and won both motos. About Marc, I am pleased because physically he is getting better and speed-wise he is there, but I was disappointed when he crashed in the first moto and threw away a big chance for the race win. He proved that he was ready to win, but maybe he wasn't patient enough and that's a pity. He made up for it with a consistent race in the second moto and third place was very good for him because he needs the points."

Q: Josh, how are your injuries from Portugal?
Josh Coppins: My toe is still a little sore, bit swollen, not too bad, just normal motocross injuries. I was more angry about Portugal, I took the pain medication for my foot and it had a funny effect on me.
Q: After Portugal we all looked at Kevin and expected him to give you a hard time in Mantova. What were you expecting?
Josh Coppins: He got some confidence, but he didn’t take any points from me in Portugal. Kevin is a great rider, but in saying that look at the points now and keep my head down. I think I doubled my points in Mantova, like 36 or 37 points, so I am happy about that.
Q: Three GP wins after four rounds, you have to be liking this?
Josh Coppins: I would never had expected that I would have three GP wins after four rounds. My pre-season wasn’t that special, so I wasn’t super confident coming into the season. I hope to pick up the read plate now and do it with good results. Last week the Belgian press are asking me who is going to get between Kevin and I, but look at today (Strijbos struggled in Mantova). Like I said from the start, I am not going to win every week, I am not going to win every moto, I do hope to be on the podium in every round.
Q: What about Mantova? It was a hard day at the office. Many riders showed good speed, but you still came away with 1-1 results.
Josh Coppins: I came out swinging this weekend, and I said I would. I was a little nervous, but more because of the way it was going, it was chaos, and I didn’t want to get involved in anything dangerous. Brownie was holding me up a little bit again, then Ken passed me and brake checked me a little and was messing around with me, then de Reuver crashed and when he was picking his bike up he hit me, I lost some time there and it was really kicking off. Once I got into the lead and dropped the lap times I felt I was getting it going. My rythem was better.
Q: Mike Brown once again lead you, he actually seemed to be riding really well in those first few laps, what did you think?
Josh Coppins: In the second moto I got a good start, Brownie was riding really aggressive and riding really hard, he got away from me there for a little while and I just waited for him to wear himself down. On the third lap I passed him and then Ken (de Dycker) came back and was strong, he had some good lines, I had some lines I was struggling with, so I let Ken pass me and watched him for a while. I took some breaths and came back at him.
Q: Germany, it’s not a track a lot of riders like because of the high speed and hard surface. What do you think of Teutschenthal?
Josh Coppins: Teutschenthal has been fast and a little easy, but they brought some sand in, have done some good work to the track, so I am hoping they have made it a little rougher and more technical. I don’t dislike Germany as much as Mantova.
Q: What is your scheduel for the season. Will we see you racing at Belgian or British championships?
Josh Coppins: I am just taking one race at the time and the moment. I won’t do any Belgian championship, or British championships or anything like that. It’s a long season, we go for six months and I don’t want to be in a bad condition from racing too much. My condition is probably 80%. I need a little more fitness, I am feeling a little tired at the end of the motos. In Spain I felt okay, but in places like Mantova I struggle a little. I want to be 100% in about two months. I am using a lot of energy because I am not riding that well. It will come good if I just keep doing what I am doing, keep working on the bike.

KTM’s David Philippaerts claimed his first-ever MX1 GP win at round five of the FIM World Motocross Championship in Teutschenthal, Germany, today.

Press release:
Coppins extends lead in the MX1 championship at German GP.
MX1 world championship points leader, Josh Coppins, has strengthened his stronghold on the motocross world championship with third overall at the infamous Talkessel circuit in Germany.
The factory Yamaha Rinaldi rider achieved his first pole position of the season in front of team-mate Marc de Reuver and grabbed the hole-shot in moto 1 from an inside gate pick. Coppins was unchallenged and won with a six second margin making it a Yamaha 1-2 with de Reuver trailing in second.
GP veteran, Mike Brown, lead Coppins into the first turn in the deciding moto but the Kiwi lost no time in moving past the American to build a comfortable gap. Five laps later Coppins was caught out in a sand section after hooking false neutral and lost his lead to a train of riders. A nail biting battle followed with Coppins having to claw his way back into the fight as he passed championship rival Kevin Strijbos. The Belgian retaliated with five minutes to go with Coppins settling for 6th.
“ This track is so fast which makes the racing really close. We got our first pole of the year which I was really pumped with and I was happy with my speed and the way I was riding. I made a mistake in the sand section which was really disappointing. On the bright side I have extended my lead in the championship. It could have been an easy win in the second moto but that’s motocross.” explained Coppins.
With Japan, next on the GP calendar, Coppins will head to Sugo with a 43 point lead.

Press release:
Coppins stretches championship lead in Japan.
The 6th round of the FIM Motocross world championship has seen factory Yamaha racer, Josh Coppins, stretch his MX1 championship lead to 63 points at the Japanese Grand Prix in Sugo.
Coppins qualified fastest for the event (his second consecutive pole of the season) and had first gate pick going into the first moto. A tight line in the hairpin first turn saw the New Zealander emerge in third as a fast moving Billy Mackenzie raced to the front, passing Mike Brown for the lead. Coppins sealed the American’s fate three laps later to settle in second place. Spaniard, Jonathan Barragan put a spanner in the works when a late charge relegated Coppins to third.
With Brown grabbing the hole-shot in moto two and Billy McKenzie once again claiming the lead moments later, Coppins battled with Ken de Dycker for third and tried to find his race rhythm. Deteriorating track conditions made it physically difficult for the riders however Coppins pushed through to third but could not make much impression on the McKenzie and Brown. MacKenzie handed the victory to Brown when he had a huge get-off with five minutes left on the clock. Coppins could not capitalize on the Scots misfortune as he quickly rejoined the race forcing the Kiwi to be content with third.
“I was surprised I qualified on pole to be honest. I haven’t felt good on the bike all weekend and I think it showed in the race. I struggled to find good lines and my rhythm and had to make the best of bad day. It didn’t really go as I had hoped but I did my best. Of course I think about the championship all the time and trying to concentrate on race wins is not easy. On the other hand my consistency has built me a good lead in the championship,” explained a somewhat relieved Coppins.
Coppins will return to Europe for some testing with the Yamaha Rinaldi team in Italy before heading to St Jean d’Angely for the Fench GP in two weeks time.

Press release:
Josh Coppins back on top of MX1 podium.
Yamaha factory racer, Joshua Coppins, has won the French Motocross GP in front of a sellout partisan crowd in St Jean d’Angely. The New Zealander won the first moto convincingly and a steady runner up spot in the second has seen the Kiwi extend his MX1 championship to an astounding 90 points by the halfway point in the championship.
A magnificent hole-shot aboard his factory YZ450FM saw Coppins come out with guns blazing in the first MX1 moto. “Lizzard” controlled the race and his rhythm perfectly as he set consistent lap times around the hilly St Jean d’ Angely circuit. Unchallenged, Coppins raced to victory in front of Italian, David Philippaerts, and Belgian, Steve Ramon, gaining important points in the MX1 championship as championship rival Kevin Strijbos failed to score any points due to an ongoing knee injury.
Coppins took advantage of another great hole-shot in moto 2 however it was short lived as Billy Mac Kenzie stole the lead just a turn later. Crowd favourite, Sebastien Pourcel, snuck by as well but Coppins kept his composure and struck back on the third lap. Five minutes later he attacked Scotsman Mac Kenzie and took over the lead. A fast moving Ramon managed to latch onto Coppins and capitalized on a series of mistakes to pass the Kiwi with just over ten minutes left on the clock. Coppins settled for second choosing not to risk anything by chasing after the Belgian.
“I feel sorry for Kevin Strijbos,” explained Coppins after the Belgian had failed to start the second moto. “I have also had my fair share of knee problems in the past so I know how he feels. He is a very good rider and I’m sure he will come back strong. It is a shame for the championship as people would like it to be much closer but at the same time I am happy with the lead. My choice of lines let me down in the second moto and I used too much energy on them. I finally found some good lines after Steve passed me but he was riding well and deserved the win . The championship is looking good for me and I just want to try and win some more GP’s. Of course it would have been great to win both heats but it’s winning the GP that counts.” affirmed Coppins
As the FIM Motocross GP series passes the halfway mark, Coppins heads to round eight of fifteen in Sevlievo, Bulgaria next weekend. (16-17 June)

Stolen from Youthstream...
As for Coppins, he was happy with his weekend in France, knowing that he can always improve and his championship challenge is stronger all the time.
First heat I was happy how I rode," Coppins said. "The second heat couple of small things that were not right, we need to work on them. I am not saying I could have beaten Steve, but I could have ridden a little more comfortable if he sorted those things. This weekend wasn't that easy for me. Every week in Italy we are making changes suspension wise, the engine is pretty cool, we are not making any changes there, but just some changes in suspension. It's not that I have a problem, it could just be better at some tracks. I am not looking ahead enough probably. I am not looking at what the tracks are going to do. I am more working on previous races and so far we have been to a lot of different tracks. This is the first time we rode really hard pack.
What Coppins finds difficult is that he is always racing against different riders. While he remains strong some riders are struggling to put together consistent results.
"Week in week out I am racing different guys. In France it was Ramon, in Japan it was Mackenzie and Brown, in Portugal it was Strijbos, Germany was Philippaerts. It is like these guys can go quick one week, but they can't recover enough for the next Grand Prix. Ramon and Philippaerts are coming strong. Ramon wasn't so aggressive in France, he just rode really well, he was going for his passes and he had better lines than me. He is good at the moment and he is racing all the Belgian and Dutch championship races, so it will be interesting to see how long he can last. Philippaert is up and down, but he is also strong."

Press release:
Josh Coppins wins in Bulgaria to build on MX1 championship lead.
New Zealander, Joshua Coppins, has won his fifth Motocross GP of the 2007 season by dominating the MX1 class in Sevlievo, Bulgaria. The factory Yamaha Rinaldi racer now boasts a massive 97 point lead with his exceptional 2-1 performance bringing him one step closer to his MX1 title aspirations.
Moto 1 action saw Coppins spin off the gate and miss out on the all important hole-shot to Spaniard, Jonathan Barragan. The Kiwi still managed to sneak up the inside of the first turn and emerged third behind Italian, David Philippaerts. An aggressive but clean pass before the mechanics area saw Coppins take over second spot from Philippaerts with the Italian losing the front end as he tried to retaliate later in the lap. A hard charging Sebastien Pourcel was never able to make a real impression on Coppins and when the Frenchman made an error later in the race, Coppins was able to relax and cruise home to second behind a well deserved win by Jonathan Barragan.
A better start in Moto 2 would have Coppins and American, Mike Brown dicing for the hole-shot. Brown came out tops and left Coppins and new championship rival, Steve Ramon scrapping for second and third. Coppins quickly made his way past the Belgian and had to fend off a heated challenge before he made his move on Brown two laps later. Coppins checked out and then controlled his lead to bring home the win, ten seconds ahead of Ramon, inevitably extending his MX1 championship lead to just 3 points short of a century.
“I took me too long to get through to second in the first moto and that gave Barragan space to run. I closed him down a little but then had a bit of a moment on one of the sections so I decided to take it easy and settle for second. My start was better in the second moto and once I got past Ramon and Brown I found a good rhythm and rode a strong race. I want to keep this rolling and look forward to the next GP in Sweden.” commented Coppins.
Coppins will take a weekend off before heading to Uddevalla in Sweden in two weeks time for round 9 of the FIM Motocross world championship.

Scott's out. After Aichwald scott said: “Monday morning and I was back in Belgium and had a physio check out my shoulder injury,” said Columb. “There was no major damage, he believed it popped out and went back in, a sub dislocation or something like that. Hopefully with rest it will be okay again soon but I won’t be racing in the Swedish GP this weekend. The team has told me to take some time off to recover.”

Press release:
Coppins in Sweden.
Factory Yamaha Rinaldi rider, Josh Coppins has experienced his toughest GP of the 2007 World Motocross championship at a re-designed Uddevalla circuit in Sweden.
Suffering from a bout of flu coming into the event, Coppins knew his goal would be to limit any loss of points in the MX1 title chase. He battled to get a quick jump in the first moto with a newly laid gravel start and lost his rhythm in the opening laps as riders were jostling for positions. Coppins settled in 6th place and focused on catching championship rival Steve Ramon. He pushed past the Belgian with four laps to go and secured 4th spot at the checkered flag.
Coppins missed out on a much needed good start in moto 2 and had his work cut out from the time the gate dropped. He traded positions with Tanel Leok and Billy McKenzie losing time to leaders Ken de Dycker and Steve Ramon. With Ramon moving to the front in the later stages of the race, Coppins posted a 6th place finish, losing championship points to the Belgian.
“It’s been a bad weekend for me,” admitted Coppins. “I had no physical power and never felt good all weekend - I just struggled. The other guys were all really fast and were attacking and I couldn’t retaliate. I didn’t get good starts in any of the moto’s which didn’t help out all. I have managed to limit the amount of points lost and still have a comfortable lead but am disappointed with today.”
The New Zealander still holds the championship red plate with an 89 point advantage over Belgium’s Steve Ramon, going into the 10th round which will be held in Faenza, Italy in two weeks time.

Press Release
Katherine Prumm was also at Uddevalla for Round 2 of the Women's World Motocross Championship. Prumm (Molson Kawasaki KX250F) was 2 seconds behind Germany's Stephanie Laier (KTM) in the first timed practice.
A poor start in the first race cost her and she had to settle for third, behind Laier and France's Livia Lancelot (Kawasaki). She then won the next race easily, taking the day's overall honours.
Joining her on the Swedish podium was Lancelot, who was 2nd and Maria Franke (Germany), third.
Lancelot is the new championship leader, taking over from previous leader Larissa Papenmeier (Germany, KTM), who managed only fourth overall in Sweden on Sunday. Prumm is now only one point off the championship lead.
Laier, Germany's pride and joy, who trains under Stefan Everts and Pit Beirer with the KTM Red Bull German Team crashed in the second moto and was taken to hospital with concussion.
The third and final round will be in Lierop, The Netherlands, on 02 September.
The week before Prumm was at Round 3 of the Australian Women's Championship in Toowoomba where she made a clean sweep of both Motos. Ashley Bates (Kawasaki) finished 2nd on the day, and also on a Kawasaki, Stacey Griffiths placed 3rd. Taupo's Emma Davis (Yamaha) was 4th.

He had a crap start in about 10th place at lap 1 (I will have to check out the lap chart in the morning), and clawed his way up to second place to be just 4seconds behind Pourcel at the end.
The last 5 laps he must have taken about 20 secs off the lead.
Ramon 8th and Philipparts 6th.
So extends his lead again after the first moto by 9 points.

Press release:
Josh Coppins more than 100 points clear in MX1 championship.
Factory Yamaha Rinaldi racer, Josh Coppins, has posted a solid 2-2 result at the Italian MX GP in Faenza to extend his MX1 championship lead to 107 points. The Kiwi rode two smart races under scorching conditions, on a fast technical circuit only 2 hours from the team’s base in Parma.
Locking elbows as the gate dropped for the first moto, Coppins lost his advantage of a good start and was in for a tough race. He was well out of the top ten on lap one as he tried to be patient and pick his passing lines. Championship rival, Steve Ramon, had an equally bad start and was losing ground as Coppins put his head down and started his attack on the very fast and technical Faenza circuit. By the halfway mark he had clawed his way back to 6th spot but it was the closing minutes of the 35 minute + 2 lap moto that were the most impressive. While the riders in front were tiring under the scorching heat, Coppins strung together his most effective laps of the race to rocket into second spot. Frenchman, Sebastien Pourcel, took his first career moto win with Coppins right behind, gaining valuable championship points over Ramon.
Certain not to make the same mistake as in the first moto, Coppins made sure of his jump and was just ousted out of the hole-shot by Italian, David Philippaerts. With Sebastien Pourcel sneaking by ‘Lizzard’ settled in third before planning his attack on Philippaerts. Ten minutes into the moto he made his move and kept Philippaerts at bay before pulling a comfortable gap to settle in second. Pourcel deservedly won the second moto with Coppins a few seconds adrift.
“I always come to every race trying to win. If I can’t do that then I need to make sure that I’m on the podium and that’s what I did today. I didn’t focus at the start of the first moto and changed a few things which I shouldn’t have – I tried something a little bit different but it didn’t work and that made it a really hard race for me. I had to push quite hard in the first moto and that cost quite a lot of energy but I thought rather give it 100% and have two solid races.” smiled a content Coppins.
The GP teams and riders will have a week’s break before heading to Loket in the Czech Rep for round 11 of 15.

Yamaha close two year agreement with David Philippaerts:
The Yamaha Motocross Team has agreed with the Italian star rider David Philippaerts to ride their factory YZ450FM in the MX1 world championship for 2008 and 2009.
Next year David will race alongside present MX1 world championship leader Joshua Coppins to defend the Yamaha Motocross Team’s leading position in the premier motocross class, mixing Coppins’ vast MX1 GP winning experience with Philippaerts’ youthful aggression and future promise. Yamaha are still discussing with current Yamaha Motocross Team rider Marc de Reuver about the continuation of their relationship.
Before his rise to GP stardom Philippaerts was racing with Yamaha machinery and the guidance of 1999 Yamaha MX500 world champion Andrea Bartolini, who now currently is test rider for the Yamaha Motocross Team. In 2004 David made his fulltime debut in the MX2 class finishing his first year 19th overall. The following year his progress was quick and impressive, winning his first GP in France (round nine), followed by a further win in South Africa. Last season David’s results further improved and he finished third overall, adding four more MX2 GP victories achieved in Bulgaria, Italy, UK and the Czech Republic to his tally.
In 2007 Philippaerts made a very successful switch to MX1 and currently holds fourth position overall, the result of three GP podiums including one win at Teutschenthal, Germany

Coppins experiences misfortune at Czech MX GP.
New Zealander, Josh Coppins, has experienced rotten luck at the 11th round of the 2007 MX World championships in Loket. The Yamaha Rinaldi rider and leader in the MX1 championship lost valuable championship points in both MX1 motos due to freak technical problems.
Coppins started well in both MX1 moto’s however disaster struck on lap 8 of the first race when he stopped just past the signaling area when a rock jammed the rear brake pedal. Before Coppins could remove the obstruction and continue he had lost too much ground to get back into the points.
A similar fate awaited the Kiwi in the second moto when lost use of the rear brake and crashed after the fast downhill step down obstacle. Coppins slammed into the hay bales and had to retire with a cut above his left eye and a painful shoulder.
“I had two uncontrollable race incidents that have cost me a lot of points in the championship. In the first moto I was third and moving forward when a rock got jammed in the rear brake pedal. The second moto I was well positioned and I was just trying keep calm and be smart. I jumped down the step down but could not stop in time with no rear brake and hit the bank quite hard. My concern at the moment is to nurse my injuries and to be ready for Namur. I’ll know more when I see my doctor tomorrow,” explained a disappointed Coppins.
Coppins still holds a 78 point advantage over Steve Ramon and will go into the GP Namur, next week, and will want to limit his points loss next week.

Press Release:
JOSH OUT FOR 3 WEEKS. SHOULDER BROKEN.
We know that at Round 15 at Loket on Sunday he crashed in Moto 2. A disappointed Josh explains. "I had two uncontrollable race incidents that have cost me a lot of points in the championship. In the first moto I was 3rd and moving forward when a rock got jammed in the rear brake pedal. The second moto I was well positioned and I was just trying keep calm and be smart. I jumped down the step down but could not stop in time with no rear brake and hit the bank quite hard. My concern at the moment is to nurse my injuries and to be ready for Namur. That means Namur is out and a worst case scenario is his 77 points lead could drop to 27 if Kevin Strijbos wins 1-1.
"Three weeks" means he could be back at Round 16. That is the Grand Prix of Northern Ireland which takes place on a brand new circuit at Moneyglass Demesne near Toomebridge on 18-19 August.
Round 17 is 26 August at Donington Park, Great Britain.

Press Release:
Hi there,
I wish this ‘josh says’ was a good one but to be honest things could be better. It’s Tuesday after Loket and as you probably know I crashed in the 2nd heat hurting my shoulder. Here’s a run down of what went on. Moto 1 I was running third looking to make a pass on Brown when my bike skidded to a stop as I passed the mechanics area. I thought I stalled it so I tried to bump start it while I had some speed but it didn’t work. The chain was tight so I thought I had broken the gear box or something? Finally I managed to find neutral but I still couldn’t move the bike. I looked for a rock in the chain but there was nothing then my mechanic Fabio found a rock in the brake which had jammed the lever on. I lost around 1 minute thirty and couldn’t ride back into the points.
Moto 2 I was running 4th after around 6 laps or so. The track was tricky so I was taking it easy and biding my time. I past the finish line, turned right then launched down the big drop off like every other lap and then tried to slow down for the corner at the bottom but couldn’t and lost control, high siding into the fence. I was a bit dazed and had a cut above my left eye from the crash and didn’t really know what happened but I got back on the bike and tried to continue. As I rode away my shoulder was clicking and I knew then that my day was over. I rode into the pit box and when I tried to stop I realized I didn’t have a rear brake I crashed again as it was wet - riding one-handed with just the front brake in the wet isn’t easy! I fell on my shoulder again... (Post race inspections showed a hole in the brake-line which could have happened anywhere. MX is a contact sport and these freak occurrences can happen!)
Feeling pretty stupid I went to the medical centre for an x-ray. The shoulder was in place which was my first concern as I thought it was dislocated. After a tough trip back to Belgium I went to see my specialist. We found a clean break at the neck of the Glenoid ( shoulder blade). So where does this leave me now... Most likely, I will miss Namur this weekend and come back in Ireland. Will I be 100% there? Many people say I’m a tough rider and always give 100% - I guess we will soon find out. I want to thank my team, trainer, Doctors and physio, as well as everybody around me and the fans, for their help and support. Thanks for all the phone calls and e-mails of encouragement. Sorry I can’t reply back to you all, but I do appreciate it. I can promise you two things: I will never give up on winning this championship and will do everything in my power to be strong and fit for the last three GP’s. See you at the races soon...
Cheers,
JC.

Hi there.
I thought I’d check in to let you know how things are going with the shoulder. I’ve been really busy getting treatment. First I was in Ipswich in England getting laser, magnetic and oxygen chamber treatment It was three times a day for three days but well worth it.
From there I came back to Belgium and had the weekend at home. I started doing some gym work Saturday and went to Namur for the GP on Sunday. I did my autograph session for sponsors and spoke a lot with my team because the guys have been a bit down since the crash. It was hard to watch my points lead go down and just not be out there racing because the track looked cool, so I went home and watched Superbikes on TV instead.
The first I knew of the results was when a journalist phoned me for a comment on the results.
Since the weekend I’ve been getting more movement into the shoulder and I’ve now started doing exercises in the swimming pool to get the movement back. I’ve also been going to Germany a lot to visit a naturopath to help with the blood flow and healing by getting acupuncture and massage. Yesterday I went to the hospital to see my surgeon Dr. Claes and bought a new magnetic healing system known as an ‘ortho pulse’ machine. I sleep with it and use it 14 hours a day!
I’m trying my best to be ready for Ireland but I won’t know how good I’ll be there until I see Dr. Claes for another scan this Monday.
I’ll keep you posted and thanks to everyone for your support over these tough times - trust me I won’t give up.

Yamaha Motocross’ Joshua Coppins, who is currently leading the MX1 points standings, will miss also this round to be fitter for Donington, the penultimate round of the season. This weekend Suzuki’s Steve Ramon has a big chance to move up to the Championship lead, if he scores at least 44 points, while GPKR’s Sebastien Pourcel still lies third in the Championship, 40 points behind Ramon.

News - United Kingdom 23/08/2007
Joshua Coppins fit to defend his championship lead
Yamaha Motocross Team’s Joshua Coppins will make his return this weekend for round 14 of the MX1 world championship held at the Donington circuit in the UK. The 30 year old Kiwi has recovered from his shoulder injury to take up the defense of his 12 points lead over Belgian Steve Ramon. With 100 points up for grabs the championship will most likely be decided at the last round scheduled at Lierop (NL) the weekend straight after Donington.
A CT scan made last Tuesday confirmed that Coppins’ shoulder has healed very well, enabling him to compete again and providing the confidence to start riding his YZ450FM for the first time yesterday since his unfortunate crash at Loket on the 29th of June.
In the period off the bike Coppins made sure he retained his strength and fitness by following an extensive training program consisting out of swimming, cycling, mountain biking, running and general fitness training. In fact the yesterday’s riding exceeded his expectations; “I rode the bike four times yesterday and apart from a bit of pain it went really well. I’m 100% in terms of fitness and strength, just down on riding time. But in a way that is also a positive thing because I feel really fresh now. I have trained so hard for this season that at times I felt a bit tired, but now after a month off the bike I feel very excited and eager to jump on again.”
Coppins expects that the participation of Cairoli could make a positive difference, as Antonio’s debut track at Donington will be hard packed; “Antonio is riding incredibly well this year, so who knows what he might be able to do, the circuit will suit his aggressive style and ability. Yet I feel totally able to be more than a match to Ramon, I won’t say I can win in Donington, but I’ll be very competitive for sure.’
‘I feel great and the doctor confirmed that the healing of the bone is going very quickly at this stage of my recovery, I’m already in the UK and will be riding a lot again today. Tomorrow I’ll make my way to the track where I will work with my medical team to get ready for the race. I expect no restrictions in terms of strength, fitness or movement come Sunday, just a bit of pain maybe, but that can be sorted if needed!”

James Stewart is out of the MXoN with a busted knee. RC should still be number 1 I would think, but who is number 2 fastest in the world right now? Ryan Villopoto or Antonio Cairoli? I can't wait!

It seemed Josh was just not ready enought for the race at Donnington :crybaby: Battling on through the pain...
Taken from his site:
Joshua Coppins has ridden through agonizing pain in defense of his MX1 world title aspirations at a spectacular Donington Park circuit, close to Derby.
The tough Factory Yamaha racer qualified in 10th spot on Saturday minimizing his laps on a jump filled track to save his shoulder for the two 35 minute + 2 Lap motos to come on Sunday.
Coppins’s lightening reactions saw him rocket to the hole-shot in race 1, however Scotsman, Billy McKenzie quickly snuck past as Coppins had to fend off a gaggle of riders biting at his heels. As the race wore on it was visible that the Kiwi was battling with pain as he gradually lost position after position. Coppins salvaged 14th spot but it was clear that he had pushed his pain threshold to the limit.
The second moto would not last long for the New Zealander as he was bunched in at the start and appeared in 20th position on lap one. Coppins completed 3 laps before retiring from the unbearable pain.
“I was pretty happy with the first moto considering the pain I had. For the first fifteen minutes I was quite good but then the pain settled in. My lines were not good as I was focused on the pain rather than on the riding. It’s not easy to go out and race like that. My family is here from NZ and I wanted to go and give 100% for them and my fans and I couldn’t and that is more frustrating than anything. I have worked so hard for this championship and not being able to fight for it is the worst thing of all. It is a hard pill for me to swallow right now. I’m filled with so many emotions. I hope that this coming week will bring more clarity as to what I will do in Lierop.” stated a distraught Coppins.
The final round of the FIM Motocross championship will take place in Lierop in a week’s time where Coppins will have a 14 point deficit over Belgian Steve Ramon. Having held the red leaders plate for 14 rounds of the 15 it is unclear whether the hard working Kiwi will be able to give it his best shot at the GP of the Netherlands.

I refuse to get negative on this one with the 14 point gap, so I had a look at the earlier rounds
so check these facts out...
- JC beat Ramon by more than 14 points in 4 of the 10 rounds when he was fit.
- Ramon scored 35 or less points in 9 of the 14 rounds to date.
- Ramon hasn't scored more than 35 points in the last five rounds (10 motos).
- Ramon highest finish position in the last 10 motos (5 rounds) is 4th.
- Of the 28 motos to date Ramon has only been a top 3 finisher in 7 motos
- Of the 20 motos with JC fit, he has top 3 results in 17 of them
I'm guessing Ramon is shiting his pants and JC knows this stuff too.

Josh himself has said that he has sustained more damage to his shoulder and while Yamaha have him working on his rehab he is unlikely to start the final race on the rough Netherland circuit. At this point you also have to wonder how ready he can be for the MXoN. Perhaps if he can get some other racing under the belt before then his fitness will improve, but what will Yamaha want him to do over the next few months?

I guess its wait and see. I'm sure Yamaha and Josh are doing all they can to be at the start but listening to Josh on Radio Sport earlier in the week it did not seem likely that he would be racing. The final decision will probably be made on the day.
I remember breaking some ribs the week before the last two rounds of the National MTB Cross Country Series back in 1998. I could hardly walk in the early part of the week or ride uphill at all, and it hurt just to breath. All I could do was push my bike to the top of the down hill sections and coast down the hills at Muriwai where the 2nd to last race was. I won that race by 40 seconds due to my quicker speed on those down hill sections in comparison to the 2nd rider who kept pace with me around the rest of the track. I hardly felt the pain in the ribs during the race.
The following week again I was very sore and could hardly move or breath but I drove down to Wellington on the Tuesday and shuffled around the track on Mt Victoria that first day, then started to ride it slowly from Wednesday. I was sleeping in my Mazda 323 hatchback lol until I met with some riders while training and slept on their couch. Sunday arrived and again I felt very little pain during the race and won to become Expert Senior Mens National Cross County Champion.
So anything is possible with the right mental attitude and determination. Lets hope Josh has what it takes.

Coppins podiums in thrilling Mettet starbiker.
New Zealander, Josh Coppins, has raced to a commendable third overall at the star studded Mettet starbiker in Belgium this weekend. In only his second ever Supermoto race, Coppins qualified 6th for a reasonable position on the starting grid. With Chambon crashing out of moto 1, Coppins was able to secure third spot behind former motocross rival Michael Pichon and MX legend Micky Dymond.
Coppins grabbed another good start in moto 2 but got caught up in the second corner losing valuable positions. He completed the first lap in 9th and had plenty of work cut out for him. ‘Lizzard’ put his head down and made his way past Breugelmans, Demaria and Troy Corser to finish in 5th, closely behind Frenchman Frederic Bolley.
“I really enjoyed this weekend.” smiled Coppins. “ The weather was perfect and I got faster every time I went out. I had no crashes and got the hang of it really fast. My YZ450F worked really well and THOR sent me out a cool leather suite so at least I looked the part!”
Coppins has a week of MX testing planned in Italy before heading to the UK for the infamous Western Beach race this coming weekend.

Good to see he is back on the bike.
I can't believe what a year of disapointment NZ have had this year sporting wise. In a year that had so much promising success on tap, New Zealand has fallen seriously short in my opinion. MXoN, MX1, AMA outdoors, America's Cup, Rugby World Cup, NZ Rugby League, we have fallen short in all of these this year.
While BT fell short of the AMA title he for sure put in the best performance of the year in my opinion, and probably had the most impressive results of the year, just that their was one better, and nothing more that he could do to over come that.
Heres hoping that Josh and BT can achieve next year what we were hoping for this year.

Second place for Coppins at Weston Beach Race
Josh Coppins has lined up against a field of over 1150 off road riders for his Weston Beach Race debut this past weekend. In his second to last event before returning home to NZ, the Kiwi battled it out with fellow Motocross rival, Steve Ramon, chasing the Belgian over the rutted and sandy Weston Beach dunes in what is considered the largest off road event in the UK.
“I didn’t know what to expect at this race.” admitted Coppins. “I have heard a lot about the Weston Beach race and now that I have one under my belt I’m going to be back for more. I rode a complete standard YZ450F 2008 model and was amazed how well the bike pulled and held up in the deep sand. We ran stock suspension and a standard fuel tank so I just had to stop more often to re-fuel which is obviously where I lost some time.”
Perfect weather conditions made the circuit somewhat easier on the competitors nonetheless the race was cut 30 mins short for safety reasons which saw Coppins follow home Steve Ramon in second place.
“I took it easy on the first lap and was around 20th position after the start. Mike Brown and Steve Ramon were long gone but then ‘Brownie’ cooked his clutch and after the first hour I was 2 minutes off of Steve. I got a rhythm going and closed down the gap to 50 seconds by the time the organisers red flagged the race so I was pumped with my riding and fitness.”
Coppins returns to NZ on Tuesday only to catch a connecting flight to Australia where he will take part in the International Oceania Motocross Championships in Barrabool on the 27-28 October.(www.oceaniamx.com)

Press Release:
Josh Coppins cleans up International Oceania MX in Barrabool.
The NZ vs Australia race format which sees the best Pro, Junior and Women riders from each country battle it out at the famous Barrabool circuit west of Melbourne, has seen Kiwi star Josh Coppins blitz all races at the annual event. The NZ team captain won both Pro races, the one-on-one Super Pole against former GP rival and guest American racer Ryan Hughs, and to add the icing on the cake, Coppins cleaned up the Pro feature race which had the 20 top scoring Pro Lites riders trying to making their mark against the 20 top Pro Open riders.
“I really enjoyed myself this weekend” smiled Coppins. “I set the fastest time in practice and qualifying on Saturday and stayed out of trouble on Sunday and managed to win all races. The track was fast and technical which I liked and we had good weather with some wind in the morning making it a bit dusty.”
Despite Coppins’s full house of wins, Team NZ were still not able to pry the trophy from a hungry Aussie team. “NZ did well in the Pro class and in the woman’s class with a great ride from Katherine Prumm but we really struggled in the Junior classes which I guess is where we lost out to Australia. I love doing this event and am going to stay on a little longer in Oz for a bit of a holiday before heading back home to Motueka.” added the factory Yamaha racer.
Overall results: Pro Open class.
Josh Coppins
Daryl Hurley
Ryan Hughs
Craig Anderson
Daniel Mc Coy.
VERY Unofficial Result is that they won: Australia 746 to NZ 550

The Aussies Victorious at Oceania Motocross Championships
Australia have once again taken top honours over New Zealand in the 2007 International Oceania Motocross Championships held at the iconic Barrabool circuit near Geelong, Victoria over the weekend.
Over four thousand motocross fans in attendance were treated to some of the best racing ever seen on these shores as World Number three Josh Coppins spearheaded an unsuccessful Kiwi assault at the Oceania Trophy against a talented Aussie team that included a number of current and past national champs.
With four riders nominated to represent each country in both of the Pro classes, and three riders representing in the Woman’s and Junior classes, the final results would be decided not by the standout performances of the few but by the overall teams efforts. After the dust had settled Australia had triumphed over their trans-Tasman rivals with a combined score of 746 points over New Zealand’s 551 points.
In the premiere Pro Open (450cc) class Josh Coppins proved too strong for all challengers as he powered his way to victory in each of his races. Fellow Kiwi Daryl Hurley mounted a strong challenge and claimed the runner up spot ahead of fast American import Ryan Hughes, who added some high profile international flavour to the event. First Australian home was Honda’s Craig Anderson in fourth.
The Pro Lites (250cc) class provided some of the most dramatic action of the weekend as Luke George of NSW romped his way to victory in the opening race only to crash heavily in the final, giving the race win to Suzuki mounted New Zealand rider Luke Burkhart. One the final points were tallied it was Aussie team rider Lewis Stewart that claimed the overall win with two fourth place finishes, just one point ahead of Australian National Pro Lites Champion Jake Moss. The final step on the podium went to yet another Australian rider in Honda’s Cameron Taylor.
With the presence of Women’s World Champion Katherine Prumm who swept all three woman’s races in dominating fashion, the New Zealand Oceania trophy hopes were given a valuable boost. However with more depth in the Australian woman’s team, Prumm’s stellar performance only minimized the damage as Australian’s Kristy Gillespie and Ashlea Bates finished in second and third respectively.
Although not contributing to the overall class results, the final feature race of the day was the last chance for each nation to accumulate points towards the Oceania Trophy. The top 20 riders from both the Pro Lites and Pro Open classes were selected to lined up and do battle on the serpentine, jump filled track. Once more Coppins was untouchable and lead home Hurley and Hughes to wrap up his perfect days record, while Jake Moss fought through the dusty conditions to finish first over Cameron Taylor in second and Lewis Stewart in third.
In the Juniors event held on Saturday, Tye Simmonds (KTM) proved to be the best rider on the day cleaning up all heats, contributing to Australia’s first nail on the board, as the team made its way to victory on Sunday afternoon.
Suzuki Report
Team Shift Motul Suzuki rider, Daryl Hurley clinched second place in the 2007 International Oceania Motocross Championship at Barrabool (VIC), today, ahead of American racing hero and guest team mate, Ryan Hughes in third place.
Piloting the Team Shift Motul Suzuki prepared RM-Z450, US star rider Hughes made a strong start narrowly missing the holeshot in the opening 20-minute Pro Open moto and running in the top three with the race lead in sight.
As the current world number two, Josh Coppins, assumed the lead ahead of Craig Anderson, Hughes remained in touch in third until a small moment on the fourth lap saw him give Anderson some breathing space and the leading trio spread out but maintained position until the chequered flag.
Team Shift Motul Suzuki regular, Daryl Hurley made a slower start in the first Pro Open race, completing the opening lap in ninth place, but the former Australian Motocross Champion delivered a sizzling performance as he charged through the field and closed in on the leaders.
On lap seven, Hurley made a move to grab sixth spot and on the following lap passed Michael Addison and Daniel McCoy to claim fourth place and began reeling in fellow Suzuki rider, Hughes.
While Hurley continued to close the gap to Hughes, the New Zealander ran out of laps before the chequered flag and had to settle for fourth place.
The second Pro Open race got underway with an action packed opening lap that had Hurley duelling with Hughes for third place. Hughes won out and left Hurley to battle with slow starting Coppins.
On the second lap Hughes and Coppins had a coming together which dropped both riders down the order, elevating Hurley to third.
Hurley continued to charge forward and was running strongly in second before an error by Coppins (who had again stormed through to the front) gave him the race lead which he held for several laps. Hurley put up a good fight before his countryman again reclaimed top spot.
Meanwhile, on the other Team Shift Motul Suzuki, Hughes put in a brilliant fightback, ploughing through the pack to claim the final podium position behind Hurley.
Following recent dominant performances in New Zealand, Team Shift Motul Suzuki racer Luke Burkhart made his Australian return from injury in the Pro Lites class, however a first-corner crash in the opening race dropped him to the rear of the field and ruined his chance of a strong result.
The second Pro Lites moto had a completely new script with Burkhart featured strongly in third place on lap one, before assuming the race lead in the middle sector of the race.
Burkhart was in control and delivered a flawless performance, setting the fastest lap of the race and stretching a gap over his rivals until he greeted the chequered flag aboard the Suzuki RM-Z250 with more than five seconds to spare.
Rounding off the day was the Final Showdown that comprised the top 20 Pro Lites riders battling it out with the top 20 Pro Open riders for an all-in, 20-minute race.
As to be expected, World MX1 Championship contender, Coppins rode away from the pack and left his opponents to fight over the remaining placings.
American veteran, Hughes began well in fourth place while another slowish start saw Hurley end the first lap in seventh.
Hughes quickly climbed to second place, as Hurley began a gutsy ride in difficult dusty conditions to work his RM-Z450 through the field, eventually relegating Hughes to third place for both the moto and the overall event.
DARYL HURLEY - TEAM SHIFT MOTUL SUZUKI
"I thought I had the holeshot in that opening race, but I shifted into third too early and ended up nowhere, but I felt good out there and just picked my way through the field.
"I got the second fastest lap time in the moto with a low 2:18min, and that was in the middle of traffic and dust going everywhere.
"Even though I didn't get great starts, my speed was good overall today and I managed to get through and make passes in every race.
"To get second to Josh feels pretty good, especially in the second race. He nearly won the World Championship so I'm pretty happy to have been able to run with him and finish second to him, today."
RYAN HUGHES - TEAM SHIFT MOTUL SUZUKI GUEST RIDER
"Congratulations to Josh and Daryl for first and second today, they both rode fantastic races.
"I also have to thank Suzuki Australia for all their support and doing so much to set the bike up to suit me; they did a fantastic job and obviously had the RM-Z450 working really well.
"I've never raced in Australia before, but I've had so many great people help bring me out here to race this weekend, the track is great and the level of competition is so strong that I definitely want to come back and do this event again next year."
LUKE BURKHART - TEAM SHIFT MOTUL SUZUKI
"I got off to a awful start in the first race, but I'm really glad I was able to put together a good race in the second moto and turn the day around.
"It felt good to show people that I'm 100% fit again and how I'm riding at the moment."
JAY FOREMAN - TEAM SHIFT MOTUL SUZUKI TEAM MANAGER
"Daryl rode the best I've seen him race all year. It was good to see him back in form, riding hard and aggressively on the RM-Z450.
"Ryan is one of the legends of the sport, he's known as a tough competitor and it was great to have him out here as a guest with Team Shift Motul Suzuki.
"He got out there and went hard right from the word go and showed no fear; he completely lived up to his hard racing reputation and delivered a great performance for the fans here today."

You're not serious, eh.
Our Juniors got smashed by the young okkers - just as they did in Taupo last year. :argh:
