View Full Version : Harley parts - where do you go?
Wired1

I've just bought an '87 883 and will be needing a few bits and pieces so I was wondering where in NZ can you find parts? Does anyone wreck Harleys? (surely not!). Anyway, list your sources if you have any (and want to share them!) ...

there are plenty of Harley Parts out there for sale........Question is if you want new or used,
Used = Online auctions, Kiwibiker, Motorcycle Trader, Swap Meets etc
New = usually an authorised HD dealer or your local bike shop etc. ( Probably Wellington or Chch )
I have a Peanut tank, semi-western bars, Clutch cable and a back rim of a 1990 Softail.

Try Wally at Wally's HDs (http://www.wallyshd.co.nz) in Tokoroa, if its HD/Buell, and he doesn't have it, he can get it - and usually way cheaper than any of the dealers!

I've heard good things about Wally, even here in Welly.

Er, yes. They are not interested in older bikes and appear to have lost their technical experts. AMC are the best bet in Nelson for repairs but this thread is more about parts and after market bits etc. That Wally bloke sounds like my kind of guy... has he got a red & white striped jumper?

Wally does all the work on my harley - rebuilt it after the accident - and he's a perfectionist. Expect a job to be done right.
A bonus is the ride from Auckland to Toke and back - worthwhile for even an oil change when you get off the main track.

Yeah I've bought plenty of XV stuff off ebay, I got a mint pair of forks for $NZ150 including freight so there are bargains if you are patient. It is difficult getting a lot of them to ship outside the states but often if you ask even the ones that say US-only will ship if they can see a good sale. What's the manual you bought? sounds interesting. Could you post the ebay address to the one you bought?

I've bought stuff from HDRS (Harley Davidson Repairs and Spares) in Gore, Dave Glover is his name, 0274 380 832 and Dave Parsons at HD Cycles in Hamilton has also been good to deal with. It depends what you're after but I have also dealt with JP Cycles in the States, stuff arrives on the doorstep, no dramas and cheaper than local suppliers generally. Shop around.

Yup, used Dave myself for parts - always seems to get them.
Also used the dude at Pukerua Bay, hard to beat his prices too.

i have found that there is a bargin to be had on Ebay if you have a paypal account its safer than giving your cc details out , but ask first what the cost of postage will be as some tend to overcharge to make up on a cheap price for the goods

Junk it man, I had the Clymer then I picked up a Haynes at a 2nd hand book shop.
Those 2 will get you by but get your hands on a HD Factory manual and you'll see why. They may be pricey but worth every cent.

We've got a couple of Clymers and a couple of HD's, I've found them to be handy in different areas. Like all the different engine building books I've read over the years some have handy hints 'here' while other have handy hints 'there'. Buy them all, read them and draw your own conclusions but the best teacher is experience.
