Hi, I'm new to kiwibiker, and as the title suggests, I don't have a motorbike yet, just a scooter, so is it all good?

I'm not new to bikes though, I had a little yamaha 50cc 2 stroke dirt/pit bike when I was 8,9,10 and ridden scooters and mates bikes lots. Haven't owned anything good yet. Just got a 50cc scooter about 2 months ago for Uni. And will look at buying a bike when I get my full, in 18 months :(...

I have started the Auckland Uni Motorbike & Scooters club called MADSAM (Mad Scooters & Motorcyclists) [I]name subject to change[I], anyone Keen?!

As far as I am concerned if you are on a motorised two wheel vehicle you are a biker.

Welcome and enjoy the site.

Dont take it too seriously all the time and enjoy yourself

does that include minichoppers???

Unfortunately yes.

The kiddies who ride those today may be the ones who graduate to the grown up bikes tomorrow.

I know a few kids who have these things and want to get e "real" bike when they are old enough.

I'll accept pretty much anything except those pushbikes that got fitted with a small motor. Whoops didnt Honda start with one of those as their first post war bike?

thanks Guys I feel welcome now :), cheers Mark.. etc..!

Hey Nish, well yeah about the name change, we must arrange a time to do this on MSN, Phil, you and myself, tonight some time perhaps, we will discuss the setup time for teh stand outside Gym/KEIC building, dealership appointment & the official name we will all agree upon.

My friend wants to be part of the club and be part of the committee on the AUT side. He wants to start up the AUT chapter of the club, so we can have the club joint with both Universities, but dominantly Auckland Uni.

See how that works,

With a club name like that I'm not letting you near my motorbike again for a loooong while. :p

If I join your club can I have an elaborate title like "Rear Admiral" or "Captain Slaphappy"?

aww c'mon man, lemme go for 1 more blat,.. its soooo fun.

Well we just changed the name as MADSAM along with our flag of bikes & jolly rogers (skull & crossbones) didn't seem to shine the best light on biking & scootering... what with the symbols of Bikes + skulls, death & misery & being a madman on a bike, though, secretly, many of us... deep down.... are, somewhat mad, but who can tell who we are with our helmets on...!! haha

anonymity is bliss.....

but as long as we hold up our reputation,

anyway FFS!!!, just join already, its $3-, thats basically a cheeseburger from macas add mayo, add mayo, add mayo,,.... thats it!

I ride a Honda XL1000 now and have had a Honda GL1000, VF750S, CB750, CB450 and CB350 Four. Done hundreds of thousands of road miles over 38 years on big bikes.

But I have also owned 4 Honda 50's, a Honda 90 and now own and ride a Suzuki 125. Scooters are definitely the best around town bike for any serious rider without a problem with their ego. Cheaper to run, much more fun to ride around town, very nimble in traffic, cheaper parts and servicing, etc, etc.

Welcome to KB.....all 2 wheelers are good...hell we all started on bicycles didnt we?....scooters are fun...very sensible transport mode for alot of folk. Just gotta realize that your invisible to most other road users...treat them all as potential hazards and you wont go far wrong. Cheers W

Mr :shit:

So why is the Scooters section under 'Off Topic', considering that a) the topic is motorised 2 wheel vehicles in general, and b) the 'its not a real motorbike' argument can't stick as there is a minimoto/pit bike forum?
Sorry, had to get it off my chest as it has bugged me since I discovered the forum.

Because not everyone who rides motorbikes take the whole genre as liberally as I do, unfortunately. There are those who dislike, or profess to dislike, any style of two wheeled transport other than that they currently employ themselves. I find it a narrowminded attitude personally.

Don't stress about the scooter thing - I love scooters too, I like to point out to some "real" motorcyclists that I do more km's on my scooter each year than they do on their litre plus Harleys or Hondas. My poor old moped does 28km a day 6 days a week, all for a few cents of gas and an occasional clean.

Scooter riders are bikers if their attitude says they are. You can ride a scooter like a bike or like a shopping trolley. Its pretty easy to tell which is which - I'll wave from my godlike 600 (*ahem*) to any scooter riden well.
I've riden mopeds (Styler-Puch, Tomasz - so many atrocities), scooters (Yamahas, Vespas), small bikes (TSX50s, RG150s), medium bikes (K5 CB400 variant) and 600s - they can all be riden well.

Good luck for your clubs - escuse caps but pls get the clubs to fill out the travel surveys - I'll pm you.

This is true - there is a world of difference between the likes of myself doing the Coro loop or a quick scream up to Puhoi on my scoot versus a student commuting.

Good to see there are a few who don't lump all scooterists into the latter category

Yeah, but I still think it's a load of crap that the Scooter forum is absconded to the Off-Topic discussion. Kind of like China's attitude to basic human rights. Although I don't spend too much time here, so I gues I shouldn't shit-stir.

So why is the Scooters section under 'Off Topic', .
I can't be sure, but maybe its because the scooter riders are less likely to be hassled by the few with attitudes if they are in the Off Topic area.
