Robert Dunlop has been given the freedom of the borough of Balleymoney, following in the footsteps of his brother Joey.

Dunlop, 46, winner of 101 Irish national road races and five Isle of Man TT events, said "I feel humble but this is not just for me, it is also for all the people who have helped me during my career."

...fair enough too.

The guy recovered from a bad crash at Ballaugh, when his rear wheel literally disintegrated whilst scooting along at about 160km/h.

After that, he had to battle against officials who didn't think he was up to the rigours of the TT course anymore....but he rode on, often with his left (hurt) arm tucked away behind him, so as to give it relief on the long straights.

I don't think he rode big bikes after that, but still was a force to be reckoned with on 125s and 250s...

"I feel humble but this is not just for me, it is also for all the people who have helped me during my career."

And that sort of comment is why he is getting it, I'd be thinking. Well done that man
