I know this has been done to death in a number of threads already, but so far all the "home-brew" lap timers discussed here have been just that. Home brew. None really seem to match the professional models available from the likes of AIM or Motec.

A few of us have got together and are putting together a lap timer that provides all the features of the well-known brands, and a few extra on top. It can still be done at around half the price of importing one from the States.

It is going to use trackside infrared beacons at the start-finish and around the track for split times. It has occurred to us that it would be nice if it was compatible with existing systems so the beacons could be shared.

So, what we really need is to borrow an infrared trackside beacon from each of the systems available so we can find out how they are coded and make ours compatible. We would only need it for a day and will collect and drop off in the Auckland area.

If you have a lap timer and are prepared to part with the beacon for a day, please let me know.

Might be able to help there dude. A good mate of mine's got one (I dunno which brand) that he uses on his insane Veedub Golf race car (4wd, Corrado 2.9 litre VR6 engine, custom turbo'd, water/air intercooler, full aftermarket engine management system, full coilover suspension - the works). He's out of the country for a couple of weeks, but I'll see if he's willing to lend out the beacon.

PM'd you my details. Drop me a line in a couple of weeks.

Thanks Sanx,

Is there anyone else in Auckland, or Pukekohe that might have one? It'd be great if we could have a look at a Motec and/or AIM lap timer beacon... If you're worried about lending one out (which is fair enough!), is there a chance one or two of us could call around on a weekend and have a look? This way we could probably gather the information we need (or at least a bit of it) and who-ever has the lap timer doesn't have to lend it out to total strangers...

Anyone? I'm sure we could throw you a dozen beer for your time :-)
