hi folks

look this ones got me scratching my head I need to draw 2 outlines ... the outer one simple ..the inner one complex ,,then extrude them into 3d form

The cad part is simple enough ,,, but how can I get the inner out line drawn ..

A digitizer would be the way ,,but i dont know either how when and why on that one

any bright ideas out there ??

Kind regards Stephen

Scale it off the drawing?????

Depends what it is, ie. is it supposed to be an accurate part to mesh with something else or just something freehand.

If its freehand then do it by eye, you will be surprisingly acurate.

can you trace the drawing (by hand) and scan it in to autocad?

What CAD package do you have to use?

Insert the drawing as a raster image into autocad, then trace over it.

I did it with arcs, but you might be better off with a spline if you want it to be smooth. The arcs I used aren't tangential to eachother.

(rename attachment to .dwg extension)

Another thought is if it's a small engine cover, you might be able to put the cover on the scanner and scan that directly, then trace over that image. It would just make it a bit more accurate and eliminate the paper & pencil.

I have a point in my drawing that I want to show on my plot, I think i need to put a "node" on it, how do I do that?
