Hey All,
Well its nearly that time, time for a new bike. Ive really taken a liking to the 97GSXR 750's. Love the look, i am yet to take one for a spin but was wondering on any advice and feed back.
Ive got about 5.5K to spend so any other advice be good.
no 1000cc machines (not yet anyway.....)

Fancy jumping about 100hp, eh? Don't know the Oz market so can't comment on $. But as a bike, they are right up there. Look for one that has been well serviced all it's life and pay particular attention to things like steering head bearings etc as many have been 'stunted' which is hard on the aforementioned

get a 98-99... they are fuel injected instead of carbs like the 97... other than that the same bike really... SRAD's rock

I think injection started with the '99 model. The model letter is 'V'.
EDIT: - ooops, I meant 'X'. And OAB is right...http://www.suzukicycles.org/GSX-R-series/GSX-R750_c.shtml

WT is '96, WV is '97, both run carbs. 1998 was the first of the injected 750's.

Great bike the SRAD. Buy one and you won't regret it. I love mine!

Had a 98 GSXR750 myself. Fantastic bike. I still see it going well hard at the track. One of the best looking GSXRs too. Should have kept it. They had a camchain tensioner recall and suzuki Australia can tell you if a particular bike has been sorted.
Congrats on the cricket too.

As jimbo600 says, make sure the camchain tensioner has been done.

Hmmm....sounds good....not a bad comment yet...
Also I checked out a 01' R6 today. arranging for a ride soon but wasnt the cleanest ive ever seen had been dropped off stand. cracked at bottom of fairing is all....but for $5.5K pretty low k's
so i ask this.....what would you do.....

I'd buy the bike that suits me best, ie riding position, comfort, power, styling, etc. Both the R6 and the 750 are good bikes, each good at what they do. Ride them both and make your decision from there.

Dude, seriously, stay off the drugs. Yes I am a GSXR fan, but you see there is good reason for that. The ZX7R is a good bike, quite good looking as well. But, it is about 25kg heavier than the SRAD 750, and about 15hp down. The ZX7R is an older design, whereas the SRAD range was a completely new design.

That's because there's not one bad thing about the SRAD 750's. Has got to be one of the most pure fun bikes I have ridden. Buy it, the only thing you'll ever regret about it, is selling it.

Personally, considering what your on now ( a damn good and fast 250)...I would take it easy and move to a 600 but of course I have no idea what you proficiency level is...........
The GSXR 750 is a serious bike though. Its almost got open class power but it weighs more like a 600 than a liter bike. Its really a perfect balance but it also deserves respect. Dont know much about the 97 model though........
One interesting bike (not sure if you get them in NZ) would be something like a 2003 Ninja ZX6R.....636cc....its got a decent midrange.........and its a good step to take before going to a 750 or a liter bike.......in my humble dumb ass what the fuck do I know American opinion.

Good input but you won't own a 636 over here for $5500. The '97 750 is a good all-round bike, vrey focused but at the same time felexible enough to commute etc.

Most certainly can not deny that, one of the best looking bikes out of Japan in the 90's. It's an iconic superbike shape. It just can't match the GSXR everywhere else where it's important.

the only flaw in that theory is that the '03 636 makes all of 3bhp less that the 750 but weighs almost 20kgs less.
so moving up from a 250 to the 750 is probably a better idea ....

I think it's prolly the torque that would be the deciding factor there...
