I know that, am im not worried for that.

One thing that I see could stop dangerous drivers getting a new license is when you do the test and pass, the system of getting your license may bring up a warning box or something?

I've just recently sat my full license, and can attest that the whole process did seem extremely thorough. While I cannot say with any certainty one way or the other, my gut feeling would be that this could possibly be a problem!

The Pastor

You could do the driving test, provided you still had physical possesion of your actual plastic licence (although disqualified). The driving tester is not going to know any different. However your problem arises when you wander down to the AA, or any agent of LTSA for that matter with your "passed drivers test" to aquire your new licence, and hey presto, Sorry Mr Renegade sir, your current licence status is showing as disqualified.
So now you have wasted your time and money for nothing, and if they were really cunty about it, can provide evidence to Police that you were driving while disqualified, thus putting the driving testers vehicle at risk due to nil insurance.

So in a word... NO

Does there system check that? What if you sat it just before they came and took ur license?

That link relates to applying for limited licences, not a normal licence. There is a huge difference. If you need an explanation, PM me.

Limited licences are awarded by the judge after an (expensive) application to the court to allow you a 'limited licence' - which usually relates to allowing you to travel to and from work while you are still disqualified. They are not that easy to get and you will pay a lawyer some serious coin to get one successfully.

It does not relate to renewing/re-applying for a 'normal' licence while under a disqualification.

Does that make sense, or should I have another coffee and try again??!!

Im still not convinced that the system checks, the courts the licence system and the police are all seperate, I know that for a fact i'll go and book it soon :).

I thought you were disqualified once you paid your fines? If you don't pay them before your test then it might not say?
You could always ring them!

Even if you were not 'picked' up and sat your licence and passed you may still have a problem further on down the track. If it ever came to light that you sat your licence while disqualifiied, you current licence would be null and void. Get yourself into some serious shit and you will not have a leg to stand on.

WHY????

Why would you even consider doing it? For what purpose?

If you're disqualified, you can't ride. Why not wait until you've got your licence back? What good would it do you to get your full now?

If you try, you'll effectively convict yourself of driving while disqualified.

Going for your full licence while disqualified is like using contraception while pregnant - a complete waste of bloody time.

When you are disqualified, you are disqualified from HOLDING OR OBTAINING a drivers licence.

If you produce a drivers licence to the police when you are disqualified and the cop then checks the computer and finds you are disqualified, you will likely get charged with Driving While Disqualified AND Holding a Drivers Licence While Prohibited.

This could also happen for example, if you had handed in your full licence when you got disqualified and produced a previous learner licence to a cop that you had managed to keep a hold of.

Holding a Licence While Prohibited - 3 months jail / $4500 fine / min 6 months disqualification.

if you booked under a completely false name, then the system would create a new dlicno. you'd need 2 forms of ID in this false name

if you subsequently got pulled and discovered, then the shit would hit the fan, and you'd be arrested, fingerprinted, charged with 'obtaining a licence whilst disqualified', 'disqualified driving', and have your vehicle impounded.

say bye bye to overseas travelling.

... and obtaining (or attempting to obtain) a licence while disqualified, same penalties... could also even look at using a document - 7 years imprisonment.... theft of oxygen - Police employment...

Ok renegade master I'll try and explain the process with examples as I went through the same situation when going from learners to restricted.

Say you get a ticket on 1st of May of $500 and 50 demerit points and your tally to date was 80, that would eventually put you up to 130 points and 3 months in the bin. We'll call this period "Block A" :D

You then have two lots of 28 days period to pay the fine unless you dispute it which would be from 1st of May to the 26th of June. "Block B"

Once the fine is paid to the police, LTSA's system gets updated (so does AA's) for demerit points and they send out a letter saying you now have 130 points. They then send an update to police who update their systems and send you a letter saying your licence is off now and someone comes around to collect it from you. Now this generally happens within a month of paying the fine, so from 26th of June to 26th of July. "Block C"

If you are in "Block A and B" it's perfectly fine to drive, ride and sit your test as you haven't been legally disqualified. But if you have reached "Block C" and are risking sitting your test or driving then you're pushing your luck big time. It does not take long for police and LTSA's system to link and update. You may have an old copy of your licence, but it's only wise to not risk it.

Other posts have already identified the risks involved if you do so and for record I got my restricted when I was in "Block B". And for those of you who have had full licence for 20 years saying what's the rush, there are definite advantages of having your full ASAP like, bigger bike, insurance policy, riding with pillion ect..

All the best hope that was useful, do let us know your outcome.

The Pastor

cool, thanks for that,

If I can get my hands on a 250 i'll do my test soon, if not i'll wait for it.

Turns out im selling my bike so there is no longer a rush to get my full.

Cheers for the info.
