Aslan - Thanks for arranging for your lovely daughter to distract the cops until we had all passed. Hope it didn't cost her too much...

That sounds interesting, some further detail may be needed!

Good to meet everyone, thanks Scott, for organising that. I've got to say, I had a blast and as soon as my arse regains some sensation of feeling I'll be ready for the next one....this may be some time (bloody DR's).

Well DucatiJim and myself certainly took the scenic way home, with plenty of gravel back to Taumarunui

It was a great trip, not even the weather could dampen the sprits
The trip home was pretty wet and drab, and got some strong wind over the Napier Taupo road (not to mention the torrential rain and low cloud)

I look forward to riding with you all again

Some useless info for you from my GPS

Total distance (I did since leaving home) - 1003.35km
Trip Time Moving - 13.35 hours
Moving Average Speed - 73.8kmh
Overall Average Speed - 54.4kmh
Beer consumed at the Pub - Lots

Home safe and dry about 1600 ! Had a great tiki-tour with Zukin from Uriti to Taumaranui...man there is some great riding in there!

It was fantastic to meet you all, legends one and all, to turn out on such a weekend and ENJOY yourselves. It heartens me to find that the NZ biker is alive and well, knows how to ride and have a good time; without constantly pissing off the cops! A better crew you could not have asked for...onyas!

Zukin....thanks man, great job. You know? I have this feeling we will ride togeather again soon!

See you all at the next one. jamie.

to Zukin and his merry lads and lasses - great weekend Scott - thanks for organising! :scooter:

Enjoyed everyone's company. Sad to miss the gravel between Ureti and Taumaranui with Zukin and DucatiJim.

I really enjoyed Moki and Kiwi Roads today. Really enjoyed the quick fang on Young1's Katoom 990 - thanks Mike - very free reving with a great exhaust note. I think I'll stop dreaming of a Ducati and substitute a KTM 990 as a nice additional bike to grace my already full garage. Can't complain about my faithful yellow 1150 aka Rubber Ducky - I had a blast fanging her along the gravel roads today. The big KTM clearly comes into its own when the gravel is deep with its 21" front wheel - but no I don't think I be joining the 'Orange Crush' any time soon altho they certainly have my respect :dodge:

Vee (my daughter) managed to collect a ticket out of Wanganui - alleged to be travelling at 118 clicks. Consequently, I sat close to no more than 105 all the way home from there.

Will post some pics later. Cheers to all Aslan :innocent:

I was getting gas in Levin when a certain yellow drz400 went past - with the rider standing on the pegs.

About 5 minutes before that a certain mature gentleman went past the same spot on a big bmw also standing on his foot pegs so I suspect sore arses weren't limited to dr650 riders.

Got any footage of the Pomarangi saddle section, off the Marokopa rd?
That would be awesome. We need to get Crisis and a few others on that track.

Hi guys,

I'm so glad we didn't pike! We got home safe into jafaland round 5.30 last night. Greeted with nasty drivers in a mission to return home after the weekend.

After we left the main bunch (close to Mt Messenger) we headed to awakino for lunch and scored a wicked ride along the west coast towards marokopa. This has got to be the most fun road I've ever ridden. A bit like kiwi road but faster and longer. We even got to see the sun a few times! :sunny:

Having mentioned kiwi Rd, that was incredible too, and the moki rd and the saddle road along the river before whanga; we're so lucky to live in this country, full of wicked surprises. I must say I had my best fit of adventure riding this weekend, 1100 km; I like to think 60% gravel stuff.

Attached are one photo that I took of the crew on kiwi road whilst Aslan and others were doing a bit of house keeping. The rest are incredible little roads by rarimu (near national park); and yes crisisman, that's the river where I dropped my helmet while I was taking the photo...:niceone:

Thanks again Scott for organizing the ride and Aslan for steering us in the right direction on sunday. Was really good to put faces on the login names.

later guys,

Well the Adventure Assaults can happen anywhere and anytime
So go ahead and make a date and the route and I am happy to list the details etc for you

I would travel to the Waikato (and districts) for another adventure assault if you are keen to organise the route and somewhere to stay
It might be a little far for the Welly crew, but stranger things have happened

After the weekend, I was amazed at the spirit of all those involved, everyone had a similar riding pace, no hurry to get anywhere etc
I would be delighted to ride with any of you again (if you let me )

See ya soon

Thinking about doing some more Waikato/King Country tracks on the way to the Cold Kiwi. Can anyone recommend a good online map site that I could use to post a route proposal?

Couple of fellas missing though, still waiting on the sorry tale of those who retired early.

..... very sorry tale indeed Neal. Great photos you guys, looks like all of you had a great time despite the rain. I'm pleased to hear everyone got there and got home safe and sound. I was up that way the weekend before over Moki and Kiwi Roads, plus a few others that many do not know about, and was looking forward to this trip as well. I made it 16kms out of Mana at which time I went from about 90kph to 90 degrees to the centre line in the space of a heartbeat. Fortunately very little opposing traffic, so no distractions while regaining some sort of order. I think Kerry thought I was showing off, but at least he stopped to see that all was okay. He did say from where he was sitting it all looked rather dramatic. I was too busy on the self preservation thing to be too worried at the time. Looking back on it, she could have turned out really bad. Thanks Kerry and Stephen for the assist  I was not able to get the bike going again, so sat out the hour or so waiting for transport (thanks Motorad) on the porch at the car haulage place in Paekak. At least I had shelter (and my thermos of soup ) so was pretty fine about the whole thing. As it happens Kerry ended up about two kms up the road in a gravel layby, something also stuffed on his GS. So we had a good chat on the way back into town in the Transit. Popped in to talk with Michael D yesterday and the diagnosis on mine is quite sad. Seems that Herman forgot one or two of the cable ties on the day he was putting the HP together, consequently the wiring loom chaffed through on the frame, arced 5 or 6 wires and fried the CDI by the look of it. Loads of faults being returned and unable to clear, so more tests being done today with some gizmos being sent down from Auckland to confirm. Must say it's the first time since I've ever owned BMWs that I've encounted such a major problem. Previous bikes have all gone through many miles, mostly torturous adventure rides, without any problems so I'm just putting this down to a bit of rotten timing. Ah well, warranties are handy I suppose. I'll be up for Adventure Assault 3 when we get around to it. By all accounts, well done Scott for stitching this one together. Catch you all next time.

One day we will meet

I was looking forward to catching the HP in action (and of course I have heard the rider is pretty damn good too )

I am absolutely stoked with the GS650 :scooter:
It went like a dream, a few things I have discovered need doing to personalise it for me, but it was brilliant

Sticks to the tarmac, and can push it on the gravel (aye BusaJim )

Looking forward to the next one now

So Garry the 90 degree thing was I presume she locked the back wheel in the heartbeat. As I read on I thought you were going to tell me it seized or had a gearbox failure but in the end as serious as the electrics frying are at least the mechanicals should still be OK.

Bummer mate, hope they sort it quick.

Sorry I missed this one busy doing other things, now off to Cairns on holiday so see you all in a while.

Yes, I have a repair manual. Doesn't have an overall wiring schematic but shows the routing of the loom and covers all the electrical equipment so would be easy enough to suss anything out. I'm suprised how little wiring there is actually.

Oddly enough I've just found I have a spare copy too  so you can have that anytime you want.
