"I, XXXXXXXXX, have considered your request.....and acting under delegated authority, have declined your request.

This is because the conditions of your class 6 restricted licence are not
unreasonable or inappropriate in this particular case"



Pardon me, if I thought the conditions WERE appropriate and convenient I wouldn't have paid my $22.00.

So, will endeavour to be off the road between 10pm and 5am, until I can do the full test. My concern is not the cops, reckon I could get away with it, but the insurance company won't pay out if I am in breach of my licence conditions.

Why was it declined/on what basis did you apply? I had an exemption way back when I had mine....

Yep, don't you love pencil pushers who are on an ego trip. They probably thought you were a spotty teen looking for a way to get around the hours.

I think Lucy had hers declined also, bunch of wankers. All you want to do is work with the law with riding hours (if work sometimes is outside the riding hours for having a restricted license). I wonder if you only had a motorcycle license if they'd approve.

Not long till you get your full - you can at least look forward to that when it happens!

Ugh, I need to do one of these. My partner has her restricted and has (easily) enough time and age to do the full but is down on practice. If we could get an exemption, she could practice on my 600 - hence avoiding having to have a 250 for, like, a month.

Can someone point me in the right direction for the paperwork? Any pointers on how to do it and what does/does not represent a good excuse for an exemption?

Apparently it's not how good your reasons are for them giving you one for convenience or because you deserve one, it's how good your reasons are to say you won't be any more dangerous on the roads than you would without one.

I agree. I wrote a very convincing letter to enable me to legally ride my 400.

They said they declined becuase i can do my full this month with a defensive driving course, and then went onto say about my record blah blah blah unsafe.

Like its going to stop me riding though...

C*nts.

If they decline, you should get your money back...

There is a reason that all you folk on your restricted licenses aren't allowed to ride after dark, because you are incompetently dangerous, and with a name like i like n00bs, what do you really expect?

I think it shouldn't apply to those who already have a full car licence, considering they're more likely to be aware of the effects of driving/riding tired and had more experience night driving/riding.

Yep - was always a pain in the arse when I had to work late at short notice.

I had to ride the Friggin bike 30km home and collect the car and drive back into work.

Real pain in the arse (month end - tying up loose ends so I can close the accounts - this is the cross we bear for counting beans).

Could have got the exemption by using a letter from my employer but reckoned the time it would take to process - I'd be on my full be the time they looked at it.

British system is best - no time limits - if you are good enough to pass the test that's good enough - tolerance is much less though it's VERY easy to fail in the UK.

After 10pm on my restricted? I routinely ignore that limitation. I've had my full car licence for the thick end of ten years, but because I'm a) only on my restricted on my bike, and b) had it for bloody ages because, through no fault of my own, I'm under 25, I'm somehow not good enough to ride after 10pm. Fuck that. It's just as bloody dark at 9pm as it is at 11pm... but if anything it's safer for a motorbike at 11pm as there are fewer cars to worry about. So I'll continue to ignore it until I sit my full.

i got an exemption when i was finishing at 12 and it was my only form of transport. easy as. it said i had to go the most direct route... but that road was full of lights that didnt respond to my bike. so the most direct route ended up being a couple of k out of my way, lol.

bugger mate, but if youve got a car with the appropriate license to enable you to drive at night, you dont really need the bike exemption.

i got declined because of my recent driving history, wanted to go after hours.

ive had a full cage licence for 5 years.
just hoping i dont get invited to a disco with a arsewhole policeman on my way home from work at 11pm.

If you look closely, you might notice that I said "the thick end of ten years..." which just means the major part of ten years, rather than actually being ten years. :nya:
Though, I did get my 1L licence six months after I turned 15, and sat each test as soon as I was eligable to do so... I was 17 when I got my full. I'm now 24. I've held a car licence of some description for nine years now... and been on my full for seven years of that. So yeah, the thick end of ten years. :bleh:

On what basis did you apply for an exemption? Late working hours? No use getting your panties in a knot because you can't have your own way. Its like throwing a tantrum in the supermarket cause mummy wouldnt get you the chocolate sprinkles on the ice cream as well the flake, hundreds and thousands, chocolate sauce and waffle cone. Lifes unfair, grow up and get used to it.

Im all for the establishment if they stop someone plowing into the side of me because they were out later than what they should have been cause they just wanted to get to get to their girlfriends house to play Doctor Doctor.

Yeah yeah nah, I had a letter from employer, and rosters attached. But they refused saying I had my car licence and could use that. You'd probably have to say you didnt have a car.

That's why I moved to a place where you don't seem to need a licence or even a helmet! (ha ha I said helmet)

Hmmm, maybe I AM too immature to ride after 10pm.

Well that is bollocks turning you down becasue you have a car licence too.

I made the point that my bike was my main mode of transport to work. My boss gave them a letter saying I worked shifts etc... clean and clear record since I started driving....

... and it helped being a cop at the time :)

Not to try and be the man, but i rode all the time on my L and R outside of hours. I still do it on my 1R, i do have 6 full though.

Easy thing with insurance deal - don't crash.

They did the same thing to me too. Not all people are 9 to 5. I ended up changing my shift so I was starting work at 9:30 pm and finishing after 5am - and that is apparently safer than working from the afternoon to 10:30 pm
