you seem to make very short posts lately mate

from reading morcs review and talking to him personally also...yes a rvf has usd forks etc and is a newer bike, but the carburators are actually 30mm in the rvf as opposed to the 32 mm carbs in the vfr nc30, thus making it slower.

morcs himself owning both said the vfr is definately faster he just loves the looks of his rvf thats why he bought it

Nah the VFR and RVF are pretty much the same bike.

RVF nicer forks.
VFR nicer engine.

i believe the engine mounts are different too. Hmm you could put the 32mm vfr carbs on the rvf or put the usd forks on the vfr....what would you choose? I'd prefer the vfr with usd forks

well how many people have owned both? at the same time also. Not many.

Why start a new thread for a topic which I so comprehensively started?

After owning the rvf for a bit longer, overall it is a better bike, even the engine is better and smoother.

I didn't think there was much of a difference between the rvf and vfr. The RVF is the racing version isn't it. I think an NC30 will be my next bike if I can find a good one. Always loved the look of these.

Hmmm how about who gives a fuck if one has carbs 2mm's bigger?

ok ummm....

well four carbys = 8 mm gain over 4 carbys...which now means you have 128mm total instead of 120mm in effect

the difference that makes? huge.

more air = more power...you don't wanna get more fuel in an engine, the more air you can get the more ponies.....

you were being a prick.

Sorry, Dynamytus, you were...

Back on topic ... there's quite a good article on Wikipedia about the RVF and differences between that and the VFR. Link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_RVF400).

Basically, the differences can be summed up as:
The RVF has smaller carbs, but they're flat-slide units that are meant to have a better flow. The velocity stacks were also changed to allow for a straighter air-flow.
The valve timing was changed with the exhaust valves opening earlier and closing later, the inlet valve was changed from 20mm to 19mm.
The RVF has USD forks. The VFR doesn't.
The RVF has a completely redesigned frame, with different geometry and different engine mounts.
The RVF swingarm is narrower and runs a smaller diameter spindle.
The RVF's rear wheel is 17", as opposed to the 18" on the VFR.
The Honda RC30 was fitted with a 'Pro Squat Rear Brake Linkage' that linked the rear caliper to the frame via a linkage through the swingarm (reducing rear wheel hop under braking), the NC30 had the swingarm machined to allow a torque arm shaft and featured the cast boss on the frame but the linkage wasn't fitted (probably for cost reasons) and the caliper was instead held in place with a simple torque reaction arm bolted into the swingarm (it is possible to modify the NC30 to fit the 'Pro Squat Rear Brake Linkage'). The RVF400 has lost all of this, the rear caliper is now held in place by a boss on the swingarm, it is not possible to easily modify the RVF400 to full 'Pro Squat Rear Brake Linkage' as the swingarm would require unmachining).
It is possible on the VFR400 to change the rear brake disk without removing the rear hub, it is impossible to do this on the RVF400 as the mounting plate is larger and the entire hub requires removal.
The exhaust has a number of changes, the main change is that the silencer and collector are now separate and the silencer is held to the frame by one mounting point rather than two. The silencer is now aluminium and held by 3 bolts to the collector.
The dry weight went up from 175kg to 183kg, overall width dropped from 705mm to 685mm, overall height changed 1.075m to 1.065m, wheelbase dropped 10mm from 1.345m to 1.335m.

ummm according to morcs, he thought it had flatslides.....but on closer inspection it does not apparently :S

well so he says.

The RVF is the racing version isn't it. I think an NC30 will be my next bike if I can find a good one. Always loved the look of these.VFR = NC30 - looks like a mini RC30. RVF = NC35 - looks like mini RC45.
Older VFR's are NC21 and NC24.
