i have a full book on it if you want to do it yourself. best way though if you know very little is to convince the bloke to let you to take it to a bike shop for them to check it out for you. costs little for the amount of info they give you.

Theres only one way to be shure you don't buy a shit heap and thats to buy new from a reputable dealer selling a repeutable brand! The best thing to do is to buy a bike you know the history of. Whats your price bracket? There are a few bikes to stay clear of....
buy new and avoid 'rangi mods'!
thats what ill be doing next time round.

A good site is Used Bike Guide's Second Hand Buyer's Bible...
http://usedbikeguide.com/bible/index.asp
Tells a lot of good/bad things about the bikes, differences between models/years
Thanks cheese.
That website doesn't appear to have dirt bikes on it but thanks anyway

Yes... if you jump on it, and ride off without paying :innocent:
