View Full Version : So I moved up to Wellington...
And this is what the moving company did to my bike. Apologies for the blurry photos -- I could hardly tell when I took them, what with the red mist.
So, now to find a decent repair shop in the Porirua to Paraparaumu area and get me a quote.

There isn't one as far as I know. Best bet (and closest) would be TSS in the Hutt. 5693989, hit 2 when the automated phone answers, ask to speak to Darren. Tell him Jim Walsh sent you.

It's nice here. I'm liking it, even though I'm living a little bit out. But, yeah, I like the place so far.
I have to go the insurance route at least as far as getting quotes and a settlement, because I paid to insure my stuff against this damage when I moved it -- essentially I'm recouping the $600 I paid them to protect me from their incompetence, not making a claim against my regular motorcycle insurance.
However, if they settle cash rather than making me complete the quoted repairs, I'll probably buy parts and do the mechanical work myself (I suspect that at the very least they've popped my fork seals and broken my clutch lever.) Plastic work, though, I'm not so good at, so thanks for the tip.
Might even spring for a complete respray, if he does that sort of thing.

crazefox is good bloke. He's doing some work on my Katana and the work that I've seen him do for others has been very, very good. If you do go the Insurance route, use TSS.

good luck on the damage repair. I don't think movers realise just how much damage they can do!

So I'm sitting here waiting for my bike to show up in a crate all the way from Perth, should have turned up yesterday, supposed to be today
every time I hear a truck backing or see a truck stop (Pack & Save over road), even a decent size courier van (-sure Dave) I jump out for a look.
& now I see this thread.

When we moved back to NZ, the moving company (can't remember who) even managed to fuck up our pushbikes. Unbelievable. Good thing I wasn't shipping a bike, I would've burst a nut.

Am moving house soon, and must admit, I will leave the bikes round a mates house, and then pick them up later. When I shipped the ST over from the UK it was properly crated but the idea of just tying my bike to the side of a van 'no worries mate, we will put a blanket over them :O' just does not appeal.

Ahem. It means: Too enraged to think clearly enough to avoid being caught by a cowboy's lasso.
I sense a new motorcycling movie: Brokebike Mountain.

I feel for you big time. I moved about 12 months ago and the moving company managed to allow all the furniture to fall over in the back of the van as they moved it before packing it properly. Nothing was covered with blankets and they dropped a big mahogany chest of drawers on the ground without a care. :nono:
Nearly every item of good furniture was damaged with big scratches and dents every where. I was furious, but they cared less and my frustration only made them more careless.
As soon as I saw them eyeing up the Duc I rang a friend and asked him to come around and pick it up for me.:scooter:
Thank god I did - I was ropeable enough over the furniture, if the bike had been damaged as well I expect I would now be doing time for GBH....

Great to hear you are nearer, but bugger about the damage to your metal baby. Hope you get it sorted, if you've paid insurance for part of the moving fee let them cough up full value for damage.
PS Take the Mrs and Kids out to Plimmerton Beach, really nice out there (where I grew up). There's some nice costal walks too around the bays and Cambourne Hill (opposite the turn for Plimmerton which crosses a railway line).

Call him. PM me for his number.

Well, I spent the day raging and generally being an unpleasant person to all and sundry but, you know, if this is the worst thing that happens to me this year, I'll be a happy man.
But I was exceedingly miffed.

To put a cap on the story, and to give them their due, the moving company were apologetic as hell, moved pretty quickly, and have settled today -- the money's resting in my account. Just have to call TSS and tell them to let rip with the implements of destruction.

Totally agree with Crazefox's work. He's done some fantastic painting of my Guzzi.
Give him a go.

Good stuff - as far as I am aware they have up to $1500 carriers liability per unit.
No insurance required for that.

He's on my list. Thought I'd get the winter out of the way first, though -- I'd hate to pay for good paint and then grind it into SH1 after coming off on some cold wet muck. I'll get TSS to do the exhaust re-sleeving, replace indicators and the like, but save the cosmetics for spring.
Depending on the good crazefox's workload, that is -- I once spent a horrible summer sitting inside, staring out at the glorious sunshine and phoning the paint shop to ask where my bloody GSX-R750 panels were. Torture, it was. Even just the tank, all I needed was the tank. Eventually they got the bodywork back to me, all freshly Corona'd, just in time for my bottom end to let go. Man, those SRADs weigh a lot more when you're pushing them.

Thing with Corey (Crazefox) is that he'll say it'll take a week and then 4 days later it's ready !!
Have a look at my profile picture. He painted the sidecovers and rear tail section (it was a non-standard browny-red) to a factory finish semi-gloss silver/grey. I was just blown away with the quality.

Found this thread after your post about my holy Ducati.
Fark - that's not nice - if I move a long way (and I'm thinking about it) I think I'll ride the bike there and take the ferry.

I don't think that this is necessary... as car has said, they were very apologetic & have paid up quickly!! :Punk:
Accidents Do happen & are legit, & the company has made good of their lack of care, in this case! Good for them!!

Well, they forked out, so it's not so bad. In retrospect, I should have moved the family up, found somewhere to live, then gone back down to Wanaka in a hire van and shifted the stuff myself. No-one cares about my stuff as much as me.
But, failing that, next time I'll just buy a bleedin' trailer for the bike.

That's my take on it. If they'd played the games that my insurers played with me last time then I'd have been happy to drag their name through the mud.
