View Full Version : Report on how badly a K2 gixxer crashes.

Yep, it finally happened, everybody said, unless you slow down, you're heading for a big off, well, I BLOODY DID slow down!!!

Leaving the top of the Rimutaka hill, heading north, first corner I noticed my bike tucking at the front, so I decided to take it real easy, so much so, that Vicki who was behind me, admitted to wondering what the hell I was doing, three turns later, pootling round a bend, and down I went.

We were doing about forty K's, so you'd think I could have picked the bike up, and carried on, WRONG! The left lower fairing is toast, that's to be expected, but the bike slid over the road, and down the storm water trench thingy, the top lip of which just happened to be the right hieght to grind through the left engine cover.

Damage isn't that bad, and I'm fine except for a bump on my hip, and a very bruised ego.

Report over, peace out.

Now where is Buckbuck no1's "what did you practice thread", I PRACTICED FALLING OVER!

Triangle tyre was replaced this morning before I went on the ride ya cheeky prick!

It's just what race attacks do till thier warmed up, it's the whole reason i was going so slow.

Riding around town on them is dodgy as, ninety degree turns in the middle of town, and they tuck under something fierce.

I'm at a complete loss as to how I could have avoided it really, I know the tyres, I know my bike, I was goin slower than I thought required, and here we are discussing how I biffed it.

Bad luck, and timing I guess.

....but nah, he was actually riding like a true nana, I was right behind, and wondering if the gixxer was about to poop its pants or something (he was dawdling so much), l couldn't believe it when the bike just stepped out ( I think it was actually saying 'get off me ya ride like a weena !') so he did!

Arrogant prick pulled away and by the time he reached the third corner his head was wobbling so much it caused the bike to go down.

Do you want another talk about tyre pressures?

Korea
9th June 2007, 17:39
Yep, saw the whole thing unfold:

About 3 corners down from the summit, the upright Gixxer thou suddenly stepped out and spat a bemused Drew down the road into oncoming traffic. It was a graceful sort of pirouette. Really random.
Up on his feet right away and picking up the bike, the oncoming car driver leans out the window and sez "Now go out and buy a bloody lotto ticket"

Ironic that after a spirited ascent you spun out while pootling down

Photo's look great - do you wanna see?

.

Quick point. Drew has got one of my ex-race fronts on his bike. This tyre is a RaceAttack Comp, med compound.

The reason this tyre is so bloody horrible (and it is) when cold is because it is a RACE TYRE. Sold it to Drew with the warning that its not really good enough without a tyre warmer. The Comp version of RaceAttack (in soft, medium and hard compounds) is recomended for use only with a tyre warmer. Therefore use a tyre warmer :) otherise you might run into the problems that Drew just has. :(
For those of you who are into spirited road riding (the majority of us....) the standard RaceAttack (no comp designation) is the one for road use, you dont have to use a tyre warmer with it.

Too bad Drew, shit happens mate.

True that. Tyre felt hard as plastic when cold.

Still, Drew was all smiles despite the off. No permanent damage done.

Well firstly, his leathers are too big in the leg, and they don't match the bike. Secondly, that's a terrible hair-do, probably deserved it.

Now that's 'Best post of the day' award material.

Bugger Drew. Good to hear you are Ok and it didn't dent your humour bone.
Had me wondering there until Jay filled in the blanks. Goes to show you shouldn't waste so much time chatting to those arrogant biker type wankers at the summit while your tyres cool down!
I noticed last weekend how quick my Conti Sport attacks cooled and got that fun lovin wiggle attitude on the way down.
We should all pee on our tyres as we leave to warm them up.
So next time Jay's up there he's going to be carry one long extension cord for his tyre warmers

Drew
9th June 2007, 23:15
Jays post is right, they are shit till they warm up, the thing is, I was riding accordingly, at least I thought. I really was riding slower than I thought I could get away with, but turns out I was wrong.

Dont think I could have done fuck all to avoid it.

Also, I BLOODY TOLD YOU I DIDN'T WANT ANY BEFORE SHOTS KOREA YA HOMO!!!

The real story is that Lissa was going to beat Drew. down the hill and he was in such a hurry to catch up to her that he crashed.

...oh and he sucks at playing doubles table tennis...

At least it was a slow off & ya Ok apart from abit of bike scaring , some of the Pros & cons of running race tyres on the road I guess .Have used race tyres from guy here & had more than a few scary moments when cold & now we are into winter they will take even longer to warm up .

I've only ever used race tyres on the thou, road or track. I'd like to to point out, that, no, they dont warm up as quick as road tyres, but they dont actually need to get up to thier full race temp, due to the fact that they are not being pushed to race pace. It is a common misconception, that they dont work at all till they're at optimum temperature.

It's the very reason people get similar k's from a racetech, or super corser, as they do from the sport compounds. They still hang on better, but aint gettin hot enough to wear the way they would at full temp.

If you ride hard enough to use the good stuff, then dont let half educated people talk you out of it.
