hello all,
i have an RGV250 with a bordering on slick pirelli dragon on the front and some 'protec' cheap piece of shit that lets up at any given chance on the back so have decided to invest in some new(and preferably decent) rubber. but as i'm relatively new to the biking world, i don't really know what to look for, i've asked around and always get different advice..
although one tire that came supposedly highly recommended was shinko (apparently soft and sticky, ideal for the RGV) but @ $130 a piece makes me wonder..
any thorts on the subject welcome.

Fear the shinko.
Dunlop Gpr a-10 are pretty good.

The Shinko referred to is probably the 003, first made by Yokohama. Good tyre in its day.
The problem you have is that with an 18 inch rear tyre, you're pretty limited in your choices. BT90 Bridgestones are shit hot but like the 003, really suited to dry weather only as they have sod all tread.
For this time of year, I used to run Bridgestone Cyroxs. They were actually a bloody good tyre too.
Good luck with it.

Do not be afraid of the Shinko, be ONE with the Shinko... The 003 is the one you'll be looking for... Failing that, the GPR A-10 is a good choice

Yeah fully shinko aren't that bad. I had the Shinko tyres and managed to removed a small amount of plastic from my knees, still the a-10s are streets ahead, in the dry at least.

ohk cheers evryone, i'll be be investigating a cyroxs seeing as winter has finally desided to show its face and i don't mind the idea of a tyre that holds it's ground in the wet. but failing that i think i'll have a crack at the shinkos.. might try the a-10's for track day :D
the shinko touring tyres aint bad there still pretty crap but it suprised me i thought it wld be worse. the shinko slicks are pretty damn good i havent herd anything fantastic about them but neither have i heard anything bad so ppl must think there ok or they wldnt buy them and there cheap and i can personaly vouch for shinko they have good tyres even tho it sounds a bit budget

Shinko is the same thing as the old Yokohama's according to someone on another thread about Shinko tires...

Correct... and it's not even the 003 version (the recommended one to use)... it only let go 3 times on the Taupo trackday (25 March), and that's because I leaned it past the final chickenstip section of the tire :p it quickly corrected itself though :)

I never had any problems with the rear on that bike....and it saw some serious angles. Any who...the Pirelli Dragons rock, cyroxs suck shit...with normal riding they can be OK -ish but when ya hit the hills they fall apart quick. Shinkos are getting ok..still wouldnt trust them if ridden hard. Spend the extra cash and buy something decent.

:sunny: Give me a call buddy, i can get you Bridgestones or Michelins at a very reasonable price. Need some sizes though. I would recomend Bridgestones, BT 90s had some on my ZXR 400, Raced them in the wet or dry No problems, very predictable tyre, and reasonably priced.
Give me a PM
Have a used Pirelli Dragon Evo Mtr 21 120/60x17 in the shed here for $50 if you want.?
