Hey we've got a bunch of cds at work we are trying to destroy and I was wondering what brillant ideas you guys can come up with. Just scratching them doesn't work, as can still read data.

Other ideas include: microwaving, cutting up with scissors, putting a concrete mixer with some stones, etc.

scratch the TOP of them... thats where the data is... under the lable bit...
I put stickers on the ones at work, then peel it off later and it pulls the layers off with it :niceone:

burnt my nephew a cd a few years back and he scratched his name into the top :eek5: one wrecked CD

towing behind your bike (worked for my old mouse)
throwing at the concrete floor...on its edge

Get a hedge clippings type shredder from Hirequip but I'm with Merv 'cos if involves loud noises and guns it has to be good. :ar15:

Another one of been told is glue them together into one solid stack, creates art work at the same time.

Microwave them, then you get a bit of entertainment while you're toasting them. Just turn the lights off first though :D

Sell them to truckies so they can place them across their truck dash to 'absorb' the radar rays and hence avoid getting speed tickets! l.o.l. x 10 :killingme :killingme :killingme!

fold them until they split can work. The data is still there but you must be really nuts to put broken CD into your CD drive.
Make sure the pieces have some jagged edges. The rougher the better.
Or you can always make a bonfire and burn them.

Look up the captian cooks cook book for the best recipe book for making explosives and go to your chemist and get some sulphr and look up how to make the bombs. Or go to your local pool makers and try get some jellignite......... that will remove the data

Shouldn't take much to melt them down. Biff them in somebody's backyard incinerator with a few tree trimmings, that'll do the job nicely.

I believe there are some companies around that specialise in secure disposal of various data media. You might like to check the Yellow Pages.

This is KiwiBiker - it has to be a bike-related means. I suggest a burnout while someone (brave) feeds them into the spinning back tyre. If you were really cunning, you could also incorprate this with the skeet-shooting idea.

In that case give em to WT to use as knee sliders at the next track day!

Well if it's bike related. What about melting them so they mold to make some new fairings. That would look quite interesting.

Sell them to HD owners as "custom shiny bits" for thier bikes.
I agree with the fairing idea all it would invoulve is a couple hundred cd's, a soldering iron and a hell of a lot of time.

Get the old apoxy out and apoxy them to a wall/floor of your local parking area, shiny side out of course.

believe it or not some government depts actually have machines to destroy cds. A mate of mine works at the dept of foreign affairs and u put the cd into a machine and it puts lots of little indents in the cd.
:whocares:

would kinda take the fun out of breaking shit tho eh?

we were going to buy a cd shredder for work... i told i'd destroy them cheaper :D

I've managed to destroy a cd by soaking it in water (not on purpose unfortunately). I think it got in under the label and lifted it.

Othwise I'd suggest taking to both sides with a bit of sand paper. If you wanted to batch process a number of them you could probably do something interesting with a belt sander and a length of string.

When we reorganised all our finances and ditched three credit cards each, I had great fun using the hot-air gun to shrink one of mine; it ended up about a third of the size, and all the numbers sank back into the card. Unfortunately, Mrs FS wasn't happy with this and made me cut my new mutant card up as well. Then one of the banks insisted on having their credit card back.:pinch:
Hot air gun is a bit slow and 'clean' though - something with more flames and smoke would be more fun.

just stack up 50 of em and get a good swing with a pick axe.

Maybe cut them up with a gas axe?

Or tape them to one of the more accident prone KB'ers on the next ride?

Well I've only had one bin, but it was on a KB ride. Not sure if that classifies me as accident prone.

I should have my arm out of a cast in around 4-5 weeks, and will be available for all your data destruction requirements after that point.

Otherwise I recall TS saying that he's binned 5 times in the last 9 months, so he might be a better bet.

Cd's make good bird chasers away. Just string them up and the reflective disc apparently resembles an eye and that chases the birds off. Hang them in a barn or shed, sell them already strung to farmers to scare off the birds from the calve sheds. Why not make some money in the process as well. :yeah:

Texmo could beat them up with his latest 'toy'

and we could have fancy, musical armour!

Instead of destroying them why don't you get creative.

I had a lotta old CD's and turned them into a full length student mirror, but I still had more so I turned them into a disco ball, but then I still had some more so I turned them into a reflective outfit to wear at a party, but even then I still had more so I made a 1/100 model of the starship enterprise but I still had ... oh to hell with it ... pin them to a wall and use them as targets for a machine gun :devil2:

CD's make great frisbees, but break quickly. Loan them to the neighbourhood children.

While they fly very well, if they land on a certain next door's roof, they leave behind the coating, which stays for months......

Dont know if they ever noticed though.. :D
