Tyre question

So I've just got my new (well, second hand) bike. Bought it from a dealer.

I was told they would fit a new ContiRoad Atttack (a.k.a Continental Road Attack) tyre to the back, which I paid extra for.
When I rung up the workshop to see how it was going I asked the staff member which tyre he'd fitted. Conti Road Attack, I was told.

So I get the bike home, check the offer & sale agreement and find that yes, its supposed to be a "new rear continental road attack tyre".
But its not. Its a Pirelli Sports Demon.

Is there a significant price and quality difference between the two tyres?
Should I go in and have a whinge?
Or should I let it go (and keep the dealer on-side in case I have any problems with the bike...)

Mate Id think that the dealers put that tire on for a reason(theyre ususally careful about such stuff), check the front tire's make. perhaps it is a compatible one to the one they fitted. would b good to ring and ask. as for price im not too sure sorry, just a thought.

I agree with Raj, Check what tyre you have on the front.

Overall I would prefer the Pirelli to the Conti, but if it already has a Conti on the front, then matched tyres would be preferable.

nah, the front's got a Shinko SR-740 on it. Don't know if thats any good. I'm new to this stuff so if anyone knows how good / cr@p they are, let me know

there a really good tyre heaps of grip but personally to expensive wear out to quick i had one on my 600 and just got a new bt 45 heaps more tread and should be a better tyre

Shinko are an average to below average tyre. I believe they are based on the old Yokahama tyres of 30 years ago. Good mileage, and good dry grip, but not predictable in the wet.

I wasnt aware Conti made a 150 Road Attack?

They make a 160 but that wouldnt be the right size rear for a Comet. If thats the case, then that might explain why you have a Pirrelli on there.

The Shinko aint a Pirrelli. However they're both radials so you 'should be OK'. Your dealer wouldnt have mixed them if they didnt think it was safe enough. Having your sets mixed is your decison and something you need to be comfortable with.

Personally I dont.

The rear Pirelli tyre has "150" on it, so I assume thats the size.
Will stick with it - might call the dealer tomorrow to check out the price difference - i don't want to find that I've paid for the more expensive tyre but received the cheaper one.

As for the front - I'll probably get a better one - my thinking is if you've only got 2 tyres, they better be good ones...

I agree with Jantar I thought shinkos were not so good also. Ive never used them but heard stories id rather not scare u with. Id call the dealer first thing in the morning and ask him the deal with ur tires being mixed matched. If I were u, Id ask him to put on the same brand on both front and rear. I can vouch for pilots and diablo corsas. Mix matching is not the best as certain tires are meant to work together with the compound stabilised on both front n rear. similar ones are ok but never really have the 100% exact compound which can be distarous if u dont know what ur doin. I dont. So I dont mix n match.

Shinkoes aren't that bad, i have used them wet and dry. Not exactly a race tire, but then a comet 250 aint exactly a race bike.

Size is definitly the reason, and a sport demon is going to be fine for road useage.

You're heaps better off with the Pirelli .Those conti tyres are apsolutely shit and anyone that rides or races on em cant ride or is Gyey :dodge:

Seriously -The pirelli is as good a tyre for YOUR application as the conti and wont give ya any issues
