I know this thread has been done before, but I'm wondering where everyone has been going for a good deal on bike insurance.

I have been hunting around in the last couple of weeks, and have checked out Protecta, and other bike specialist insurance companies, to insure my GSXF750.
A lot of them were up around $600 - $700, with quite high excesses required .... and I have a clean licence, and have been riding .... or at least held a full bike licence for many years. That seemed like a bit too much to pay for my bike, which is covered for $7500 (the purchase price).

I narrowed it down to State Insurance, which was half the price of the others, at approx $310 a year. Unfortunately that was still with an excess of $1000 for damage or theft, and it didn't cover any accessories to the bike, or my helmet and bike gear.

I had been swapping email with Sue Staples of Whitelocksuzuki.co.nz, as before buying this GSX, I had been looking at much smaller bikes and scooters! Anyway, Sue offered to quote me for insurance for my bike, having told her that I was already insured with State. I said yes .... as what had I to loose.
I'm now switching my insurance from State to Vero, via Sue. She provided me with a cheaper cost, with much better cover, and way lower excess.

I just thought I would put this on the forum so as to help anyone else who was in the same boat as me, searching for good affordable cover.
It is the best deal I have found, and the other thing was the very straight forward and honest corespondence from Sue, who prior to being involved in the motorcycle industry, has an extensive knowledge in the insurance industry, and assures me that she will go into battle for me, if ever needed, to ensure any claim was dealt with fairly. Sue has said that she hasn't had reason to do that with Vero, as they are a good company to deal with, as well as being one of the bigger players in the insurance market.

For everyone's info. :scooter:

P.S. ...... I hope this is kosher to speak about this on this site. I am not in it for any gain at all, and I wasn't asked to do it. I just believe in spreading info on any good service or product I find, and hope it benefits others as well.

Cheers,

Grant.

Hi Grant, I've just finished ringing around getting quotes for my bike. My car is with AMP but they didn't really want to touch it....I rang John Baker Insurance, AMP, Kiwibike & Classic Cover.... Classic Cover was by far the cheaper annual premium, although the excess is higher, they will also payout for riding gear that is damaged......bike is insured for $17k, premium is $775pa...
You may also want to try Swann Insurance and Star Insurance directly as these are companies that will insure motorcycles and most brokers will use to quote you from, with their bit add on top...
Hope that helps..

Ring star insurance and national auto club too. They cover you on the track and their fees and excess amount is the best I've seen.

Yes I tried Swann and Star, AMI (who definitely don't want to insure bikes - even though I had all my other insurance with them!), and some others.
I'm pretty sure that Classic Cover is what I have got, but the company is Vero, as far as I'm aware. It is certainly the best I found (through Sue at Whitelocksuzuki). Your excess may be higher based on your bike and the replacement price. Mine is something like $350 for damage, and $450 for theft. My premium for $7500 cover is $294 and I chose to add in an extra $25 to cover Roadside Assitance (recover me, pillion, and the bike). I may be able to do slightly better, but I doubt it based on all the phoning around I have done. I haven't listed all the companies I phoned, but I just went through heaps over a few hours phoning, and only wrote down a few that were worth bothering with. As I said, State came out really well compared to those Bike specialist insurance companies, and others, but still the deal I have with Vero Classic Cover, through Sue, is good enough for me.

Yes I rang Star, they were almost twice the price I have settled for. They were around $650 from memory. I haven't tried National Auto Club, but I would be very suprised if they got close to the deal I got through Sue at Whitelock Suzuki.
Thanks for the info.

I'm with Vero for my Ducati best price around I think it cost me more for my car that is with AMI than it does for the bike.
All our other stuff is with AMI but they still wont do a good deal for the bike.

Yes I found exactly the same. AMI don't want bikes, so give outrageous quotes. I think my premuim was going to be over $1200 a year, or about three times the price of my car!
Yes I think Vero is the best deal around by far.
Cheers,
Grant.

I might just have to give Vero a ring on Monday to see if there is any difference....
I tried John Baker Insurance which is the company that "Jetboy" works for i believe...there quote was alot more than Classic Cover, plus the chap i spoke to (which wasn't Jetboy) was pretty arrogant...

AMI (who definitely don't want to insure bikes - even though I had all my other insurance with them!)

It could be that I've been insured through AMI for about the last 17 years, I've never had problems insuring anything through them, all my sportscars, bikes, house, contents, have been on a full no-claims for almost a decade now.

It's all about history as far as I'm concerned.

Hello - I am new at this but one of the kiwi biker readers helped me. so, I have been reading the very nice things that Grrant has been saying about me. I sure do appreciate that, and have a red face!

I don't wanna get in anyones face about insurance but if you would like me to do you a quote, I would be very happy to. What I need is your name, date of birth, make, model and value of your bike and confimation that you have a clean driving record and a locked garage to keep your bike in.

Just email me on sue@whitelocksuzuki.co.nz and I'll be back to you real quick with a quote and fuller details of the cover. If nothing else, you'll have a basis for comparison which is always handy.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Sue
