View Full Version : Amazing fingerwork!
Wow this guy really is amazing. Stairway To Heaven, jazzed up and somehow, made more amazing.
Stanley Jordan. I've never heard of him before.

You young folks need to be exposed to more repertoire. Including jazz and jazz fusion.

Stupid dialup!!!! Have to take your word for it
They guy is a fucking genius. To take 'the greatest song in the world' and change it to that...It takes an ounce or two of talent.

<hints id="hah_hints"></hints>Have a look in my iPod some time, dear old Mr Hitcher. Nearly 3000 songs from artists such as Miles, Coltrane, Bill Evans, John Lewis, Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins, Charlie Parker and Hank Mobley.
Fusion is something that I'm am somewhat wary of. Too much `porn' music out there, although Miles Davis' Bitches Brew and In a Silent Way were awesome; as was good old Herbie Hancock's Head Hunters (of Chameleon and Watermelon Man fame :first:). Very LSD.
As for the Stairway to Heaven thingie, impressive, tends to lose the beat when he's doing his ad lib in the lead-in though. Reminded me of some of Kenny Burrell's stuff. The double bassist is shit-hot, though -- wish I could play like that. He's been listening to Scott LaFaro.

He's not a genius, that's just the basis of jazz. Song is never played the same twice. Jazz people believe rock is as boring as all hell as every time the song is played it's identical (I don't necessarily subscribe to that viewpoint, but I see what they're saying). If you want to see the kind of greatness your guitar player is aspiring to, watch this clip:
