I didn't do it, I was framed I tell ya, framed

And don't forget training wheels ...

Training wheels is all sweetness and light. She brings class and decorum to what would be a deeply offensive group without her calming influence.

OK 5 bikes met in Helensville me, Jay and the EJ complete with his new Restricted licence (no more $400 L plate fines for him), Devil (he was the guy on the Triumph), and Maverick popped into say Gidday but wasn't coming to Albany.

Devil came via Riverhead whilst the rest did the Greenheith route.

About 8 bikes in total at Albany.

We worked on cornering techniques, best lines and how to corner with different road surfaces.

Once we were getting around the corner, we went onto emergencey braking - an always useful exercise.

On to Bar Africa where there was a good turnout as usual. Intelligent and thought provoking conversations were had by all. Obviously Busy was not there so things were kept well out of the gutter all evening.

A little tattoo show and tell was had which was interesting viewing, piercings were mentioned but kept well out of site (Thanks).

Quiz - Guess who has a smurf tattooed on their arse?

Hey everyone!
I heard you guys did a meet up for mentor riding/advice giving and increasing my skills is something I could really do with (newbie. nuff said.).
I was just wondering what you guys actually did on the Wednesday nights as in excerises/ ride routes? Just I could probably do with a kick and a point in the right direction right about now, or just shown what I'm doing wrong in general would be awesome.
Any info would be appreciated!
Thanks
Mike

Hi Choc mmmm
If you read through some of the thread you will see some things we learn. Everyone is at different stages of learning but even thoes that have been riding for 15+ years are still learning. Some people turn up 2nd day of owning a bike others a few weeks. One thing i know is that everything we are showen and doing is something we may need. Its not about right ways or wrong ways its about developing and improving thoes skills you already have sometimes sharing your personal experiances for others to learn from and just being able to ask somone about something they have learnt.
I bet every week anyone that shows up will learn at least one thing that night that they may not have knowen before hand.....
Anyway hope to meet you out therealways good to have new people to play with .....heheh well meet anyway.

Hi you lot....
Last week at the pub Big Dog mentioned joining the ATNR (thursday night ride) one week as a mentor (slower, no :Police: stops) ride. His thoughts were to have some ride time on the road leaving 15min after the big guns and going our own pace (no pressure ) we will still meet up at the pub after but will get in at our time. At this stage this was just a feel to see who may bee interested....so whos keen for a :ride:?

On one of the thursday night rides, Im going to be at a corner, and take pics of bikers, its a nice corner of 35km/hr and smooth road..let me know when its goin to happen and I can take pics....also with that, it will show you how far you lot have come in riding ability...

Had a thought (which is dangerous lol) Im off down the line to see if I can find my old honda xr250 1985ish.

If its where I left it (dads workshop) I plan on fixing it up and taking it out to Murawai beach one saturday or sunday for the day, practise some riding and brush up on the rustic skills of off road riding.

Because its an old bike it can be thrashed.

See how the bike handles, if it survives a day without me blowing engines up then I'll take it to Ardmore and practise some moto x at a later stage.

First things first, got to find it and fix it.

Just wanting to see who would be interested in giving the beach riding a go...and maybe later on Ardmore moto x track.

Not so much the distance of the ride as I go out on my own quite a bit. Just coming home in the dark and been tired etc. Work 2 jobs and have 4 kids so it is more a time issue. But thanks for the offer. Will concider it for next week.

Good effort tonight everyone! Interesting to see peoples natural reactions when it came to decision making and judgement calls.

Sometimes when you are riding you have to block out the thinking process, (use prepherial vision where needed sometimes) if you overthink you can make some situations worse because by the time you think about what step to take next it could be too late... you just have to feel the bike look ahead and follow it.

Wont be making it on wed nights anymore....keep riding safe out there!!!

so what did they pull you over for or did they call it a 'routine' check? anyone else get pulled over? when i dropped in for all of the two minutes that i was there i noiticed a few police hanging around and when i left i was followed for a little bit from the top of bush rd but not pulled over at all. what a waste of police resources yet again..... maybe you guys are having to many hot chocolates before riding home again

The Police have been cracking down in that area the last week or so. When we arrived at BAR AFRICA at the end of the ATNR last week, one of the barmen mentioned someone had pulled out of there (in a car) only 1/2hr ago and got busted for DUI..... and that must of been before 8pm! :shit: So keep ya eyes peeled and run legal. Reminder tommorows excercise is not for the feint hearted.

Participaiton is as always optional, no real danger but you will probably have a bit of fun scaring yourself.

Emergency accelerating.

No I have not gone around the bend....... though you will need to to get another go......

The excercise will focus on one of the lesser known tools in the "Get me out of danger" (TM) Toolbox.

Followed by a short ride that should challenge most peoples perception of speed.

Sounds like it will be a interesting night to say the least ....

But are you sure you have not gone around the bend??:devil2:

Personally I dont mind :niceone: but some might not be so keen on the idea and want to go elsewhere tonight.

Totally unsubstantiated rumors are that busy is part of the show this evening (he has paid good money to be the pole) and that's why he is unable to make it.

Hey guys 'n gals.
Just wonderin for a little more info on these kickaz soundin nights, what sort of levels it covers etc.
i'm fairly new to riding (only a couple of months) and have taken to it like a duck to water, but i'm sure i'm still doing plenty of stoopid stuff that i need to un-learn.
is this likely to be up my alley? or is it more focused on basic handling type skills? an awful long way to go on the sidestreets from mt wellington (stuck under 70kph on my learners dammit), but would definitely be worth it if it's gonna make me a better rider.

Anyone with some pearls of wisdom?

Nello riders!! I've been doing some stuff behind the scenes, working with the Monday night newbies and now been granted permission to take the newbie riding thing one step further....to the track (just a mini one lol)

If any of you are interested in attending this to improve your riding skills(it'll be once a month) then please come along...the more the better!!

It also will give you an insight to how it feels to be riding on the track, developing your lines better and handling of your bike in a controlled environment but pushing it a little further. If you are keen, I can organise for you all to meet at Shell Westgate as per normal and have someone lead you out to the track in Panmure, and back out west after...
__________________________________________________ ____________

I've just been given the go ahead with hiring out the Mt Wellington go kart track!!!!

Here's the thing...

Firstly we have to make a donation to the go kart club, as they will be giving me a key, their fee to hire the track is $250 this will be discussed at the next meeting. There is an exception because we are a community organisation, and trying to help other riders, the go kart club supports this and said they will lower the fee to an acceptable donation from us as a group.

Remeber that this is still a voluntary thing and I intend to keep it that way, all proceeds which we raise as a group will go into the Go kart account for track hireage. The more riders we have, the less we can charge per person. I make nothing out of this personally, just to clarify things.

Secondly, THERE IS TO BE NO RACING!! under any circumstances. I can not stress this enough!! Yes we can go fast, but the environment will be controlled...the reasons why??

1 - No ambulance on site.
2 - There are noise restrictions and we have to respect others around us.
3 - I gave Ian my word we would not race therefore he agreed to this.
4 - Dont want to be picking up your binned bikes.
5 - We will loose the privledge of using the track.
6 - There are no avaliable marshals on set points/ corners on the track.

I have to write up a proposal for Ian and get back to him with it in regards to booking the track and what we will be doing on the track etc.

What I propose to you newbies is this...

First Monday of every month we hire out the track, if that's unavaliable, then try for the last Monday of every month.

So give it some thought, ideas, and/or ways to how we can raise money for an acceptable donation (some of us are poor students! *raises hand*) and see what we can come up with.

Sorry BD - I was out of the country only getting back this morning - I will be there for the next ride however !

Ride somewhere again this week.
And next.
Same plan B for each week. Plan B only exists if it is already raining not threatening to.

Sounds like you better come lots then... Nah all good. My first, second and third time were all in the last two years. Sadly that means that they were all after the first 13 years of riding and all with the busa.

Unfortunately I reckon confidence (and to some extent cockyness) saves your skin on a motorbike. I always bugger up when in the pouring wet and that's cause I really have no clue what my bikes gonna do.. but yeah. If i'm in good shape by Wednesday i'll come on down.

Curious_AJ

yeah, confidence is the key in any vehicle.. but you only build that up when you've practiced... so it kind of goes without saying when i start practicing, i'll be fine i'm sure :)

I would have to agree that the carpark in which you and Frosty will be practising in is alot better lit and safer. There are less distractions and hazards which enables the rider to focus on the task assigned.

Wish I was there, have fun all.

All great things must come to and end.
My participation in this project is no different.
I am not sure of dates at this time but my participation will be withdrawn before the end of May 2008. More information will follow as it becomes available.

What does this mean? It means unless someone other than me can find a new person to continue or modify the format then this thing of ours will cease to be.

If you have been procrastinating about coming along for a while, now is the time to pull finger, put bum on seat and try to learn something while the choice is still there.

I have been very proud to be a part of this and very proud of the progress that most of the participants made.

Please do not discuss my motives for withdrawing in this or any other thread. It is time.
If you feel a need to discuss it with me come and see me after a Wednesday night or drop me a pm.

I don't want to see this thing of ours die either which is why I have given so much notice.
If I was definitely coming back at some time I would be looking for a babysitter but as I may never come back I am looking for an owner to come forward and take ownership going forward.

Said owner would not need to be particularly skilled just able to set up the exercises and coordinate things, provided they could con other members to come and put their knowledge to good use where they could.

Cool so you are nominated to be coordinator, what you need is some volunteers for helper and a second to the motion... this is after all a democracy. In case you did not know I was never in charge.

I have just taken on a new management role, will wait to see the new rosters, training course sechdules and exam dates...I will see what I can do about carrying on the tradition....If anyone has any objections to this please pm me..

Alternatively anyone who is keen to come along to Monday nights these are still running out in Panmure are alot of fun, and pretty cruisy!!

It might not be a wednesday night because of work but the course will be reorganised and restructured it so its a weekly learning thing and with new and different exercises, I will help out where I can.

Cheers Bigdog for all the personal time and commitments you have taken in order to see this through....Guys, I think we should have a bit of a farewell do for Bigdog when the time comes as he's put alot into this...maybe dinner and a bit of a ride somewhere.

As you know in my mind this has never been about me.
This has always been about making the transition from riding to riding safely and with confidence.

Nothing would make me prouder than to see this carry on in the hands of veterans of the experience.
This was a huge commitment over the last 14.5 months but I wanted to see some people out enjoying their chosen pass time (or mode of transport or lifestyle as the case may be) without learning everything the hard way.

I recommend you two talk to each other off line along with any other volunteers and work out so you can do what is best for each other and the cause.:first:

Im taking the helping to other riders to the next level - but this is based on the monday nights and interest generated outside by word of mouth.....I've sent through the proposal for the mini track/newbie riding night.....Just waiting to hear back on confirmation for a date....

I hope it will be a good turn out...

Will throw up a proposal to see what others think...already voiced it to Fireball, and she thinks its a good idea, between us we have alot of ideas to play around with. I see that as an awesome thing because I have experience behind me but she has the "we need to learn this" because she is the one whom knows what newbies should be learning thesedays...

Im just an old fart!!!

"One proposal"

Meet at shell westgate on a THURSDAY night usual time etc....

We either ride a seperate ride because ATNR riders are a bit more skilled and pick up the pace...

Or go do some fun exercises, and meet them all at Bar Africa after!!

It not only gives ya a chance to chat and see whos who, but also the opportunity to talk to experience riders who have also been down the newbie path, check out some of the larger bikes, and have fun!!!

Good thing about this idea, is that when you are skilled enough to do the ATNR ride, you'll already know bikers, they will help you out for ya first time on the ride etc!!!

*Had to change the text colour as I use the white skin and I cant see it...*

Anyways, the ATNR is slow, If people are able to ride to a meeting location, they are able to do the ride.

Old north and peak road arent that technical. None of the corners are tight or deceptive. There are a lot of bikes so there is more of a pack, so you have a pace set and you can see their braking zones etc...

The second half of the ride I wouldnt advise as even most people have enough trouble that I can pass the entire pack in a few k's :spanking: heheh
