That depends, do you intend to continue to pm this list after it is too late to read these before we are attending next?
I shall now translate to a less sarcastic language.
Please note many employers are now actively blocking Kiwibiker due to the language and images contained within.
Should you wish to contact us Via PM please always allow 24 hours between sending and affected event.
I have recieved a few pm's from you regarding events that have already occured.:innocent:

Can anyone just turn up or do you need to know numbers beforehand? I would like to come along but I usually don't know for sure if I'll be able to until that evening. I'm a real newbie and I reckon something like this would help me alot.

Hiya folks, a quick update regarding tomorrows session:
We have been told we cannot use the practice area by the park n ride in Albany. However MTK has been on the phone and sorted out our very own private carpark! No risk of rogue cars, and fully lit!
Nice one!
See you all at westgate 6:30pm and we will head over to the new practice area! (it is close to the park n ride).

Yes there was some interesting action. In particular a certain individual putting in hot laps on a GSXR400.:shit:
For the record the tightest hairpin can be done at walking pace!

Another successful ride. Cheers Disco Dan and Big Dog - some sage advise was administered to one and all. Like how to run over cats. :dodge:
Actually enjoyed following people through corners at a pace that allowed reflection on what was going on, how the body felt, how the bike felt, how the lines through the corners positioned the bike for the next one etc. It was good.
Now about that third run at .... If I lived on the shore I might have been tempted.

Yeah, was a good night :)
I think I can safely say, everyone learnt something new - which was the intention!
Was great to see peoples confidence improve and some smooth riding being aimed for. I certainly gained a higher level of trust in myself and my bike from doing the excercises.
Great stuff!
Cheers to Big Dog, Morc and Kitty  ...and good to see a certain person with boots on this time ;) well done.

Big cheers to (in alphabetical order) Disco Dan, Kitty Hawk and Morcs for leading the different groups in what was an exercise in patience, hazard analysis and teamwork in the context of riding in the deceptive environment provided by riding a motorcycle in unlit areas.
Curiously this is a lot harder / more deceptive in groups of bikes because of the sweeping nature of bike headlights.
Well done to everybody who participated.
Although most were outside their comfort zone in some way there were some excellent examples of smooth, stable and predictable riding.
And a special thanks to Busy for providing the comic relief.

But how many of the noobs are legally allowed to take a pillion?
Pointers and practice for being a pillion definately, but im uneasy at the idea of people being taught to take pillions when confidence and skills in their own riding is still an issue...
Id been riding 4 years before id even taken a pillion down the street...

pillions can scare noobs first pillion i took on a big ride was after a year or so...prior to that (missus at the time) we had only gone around 50kph zones...get on the open road and i was nursing it not wanting to scare her....she asked me to go faster and faster and faster....
peg down at 120kph with a pillion is interesting she asked me to go faster...i said no...as i do not want to crash with a pillion.
pillions can push you beyond your own limits....i had the self control to just say no we arnt going any faster than that through corners.... i though 120 through a 65 is quite fast enough with a pillion.
take it easy with pillions guys it's not worth crashing with one
and before you have a go at me i am perfectly comfortable with going through a 65 at 120 with a pillion.....
as stated she asked to go faster and i said no as i did not want to do my usual 140+ just to impress her. at the risk of crashing.

I think what Disco meant with his enthusiasm and scarcity of words is that:
There has been a few requests on how to pillion correctly, both rider and pillion.
If you wish to learn how to carry a pillion you should be legally allowed to do so before actually going on the road.
Dependant on attendance there will be some pointers followed by carpark exercises.
Then those who have the skills and are legally allowed to do so will go for a short ride.
If you or any of your friends wish to learn how to be a pillion and has correct gear bring them / come along.
The exercises will be similar to those done one up but the skills will clearly be different. At this point the group will do the exercises together.
If there is insufficient interest the pillion idea will be abandoned.
Even an experienced pillion / or pillion rider can benefit from practicing the basics.

Sounds like you could do with a learn re pillion etiquette.
A pillion, especially a new pillion may be entirely unaware of the danger they are in or the increased braking instability / distance.
A good brief can go a long way to stopping this.
Riding sensibly and reserving higher speeds to higher speed zones or racetracks is your responsibility given that you have accepted responsibility for that persons safety and well being.

Cheers for clarifying BD, very important point you raised... Even an experienced pillion / or pillion rider can benefit from practicing the basics.
Alot of people would be surprised at the range of people that attend the AWNMR, there is usually a good mix of 'very new' and 'beginners' attending.. as well as the odd 'experienced' rider - some of whom have found our excercises very rewarding and even challanging!
It appears some people believe they are 'too good' to come along to AWNMR, maybe because I run it, maybe because they think they are 'too good'. Whatever their reasons, they are living in a dream world. We have had very 'seasoned' riders attend and find they have difficulty with one or more of our exercises - this is worrying. The reason for the AWNMR in the first place (as you already know) was the complete lack of skill out on the public road by the vast majority of riders... its easy to go fast... but hard to go slow... I personally would love to see some professional and amature KB racers attend... not only for them to show others but also to improve their own skills... as more often than not, even the most experienced of riders will struggle with the 'slow basics' - the fundamentals of riding.
I challange anyone to come along.... if you ace every single one of our exercises then fine. If not... I dont want to hear anyone daming the AWNMR! :nono:

Sounds like you could do with a learn re pillion etiquette.
A pillion, especially a new pillion may be entirely unaware of the danger they are in or the increased braking instability / distance.
A good brief can go a long way to stopping this.
Riding sensibly and reserving higher speeds to higher speed zones or racetracks is your responsibility given that you have accepted responsibility for that persons safety and well being.
as i say i kept speed down..at that stage she had been my pillion everyday for 6 months.... round town....

I think its a good idea. I've been looking for a sucker.. ooops.. brave willing person to hop on the back of my bike, in a carpark, just to see what its like.
Conversely, I would love to know how to be a good pillion, never know when that info might come in handy.
If work doesn't ruin my day like it usually does I'll come along.

you call 2.5 times the speed limit keeping the speed down?
Perhaps you could give us the benefit of teaching us how to brake safely from those speeds in a hazard packed environment?

For anyone that doesn't already know, this event is 'run' by Dan with the assistance of several highly experienced mentors, all the activities are discussed and supervised by the mentors for the specific purpose of helping riders of any level to improve their skills in bike handling and control.

ANYONE, that wishes to learn how to take a pillion and be a good pillion is welcome to attend.
In addition, we will be having exercises for those that do not have enough experience to start this step yet.
Thank you for for putting people off... but 'we' have thought this through.... we are fully aware of this.
Put people off, like I said, just playing devils advocate. Im not one for paying lip service, and im just giving my opinion, which should be appreciated.
so Ive been told time and time again I should be setting a good example. Well here I am, being law conscious and giving my input, and you flame me Dan.
No doubt you will set a good example by turning up on an 1100cc bike, and taking pillions - neither of which you can do legally, debatably do full stop.
Unfortunately I wont be there BD. Though I would love to come and assist, although i wouldnt take pillion myself as im not legal. All about setting a good example ay...

Yes, as much as it is ever legal! lol
However we follow the guidelines and advice from the blue devils who monitor our riding behaviour, our goal is to help people to improve their riding not to encourage them to do things they are not prepared for or that are illegal. It is more about the rider being given opportunity to practice skills and build confidence than anything else.

Found out that those DIY repair kit bungs make your tires less "grippy" especially when you have two next to each other... :shit: ...so I have been taking it very easy in this rain lately!
I will see you all at westgate folks - same time: 6:30pm (leaving 7pm). Meeting in same carpark in Albany.

AWNMR - Wednesday Night Mentor Ride
What - Newbie training/confidence session
When - Wednesdays
Where - Meet at shell westgate then directed to a practice area nearby
Why - A chance for new riders and learners to get practical advice on your riding and learn new skills from site mentors.
Time - 6:30pm (Departing 7pm)
Directed at new riders looking for confidence and training -
all are welcome to attend and learn
Meeting in Shell, Westgate at 6:30PM and directed to a practice area nearby.
RAIN OR SHINE - THIS GOES AHEAD EVERY SINGLE WEDNESDAY REGARDLESS OF THE WEATHER!
Starting with a practice session covering a range of different skills and techniques under the close supervision of experienced KB mentors.
Depending on numbers and experience levels of those attending, a short ride may be included to practice further skills.
Just a note here folks
We are a bunch of experienced riders who are happy to pass on our riding experience in an informal way We are not claiming to be a qualified training organisation.
It will NEVER replace training from Qualified instructors like the Ride Safe course or the 1 on 1 training people like TRICIA1000 are able to give you --- Frosty
PLEASE FOLKS THIS IS NOT A GENERAL OPEN RIDE -IF YOU WANNA SHOW OFF YOUR MONO SKILLS DO IT ANOTHER NIGHT
Directions: I have added some maps below. The google-earth photo shows westgate most clearly - the gas station is the building above the letter "p" in "pinot lane".

Macktheknife has asked me to post saying that tonight instead of training or a ride they are going straight to the pub (Africa Bar) for a "theory session".
So if you are on the shore or it is easier to get to Africa Bar than Shell Westgate go straight there, but don't bother going to the practice area.

In light of a family situation Mack will not be attending this week.
Fear not things shall progress in much the same way, with a focus of sharpening the skills we all need to stay alive whilst in pursuit of the favourite corner.....
Sadly not there are these crazy things called straights and these moving cones often referred to as cars / trucks / cages et al.
The focus this week will be on the relationship between your throttle and your cornering.
Once every one has this under control we will move on to one of the most fun moments in motorcyling, the transition. (For those that do not know what I mean, this is moving from one turn to another without a straight - transitioning from a left lean to a right lean or vise versa.)
If time or talent allows we will move on to a slightly more challenging version of the later.

this looks really cool, and you guys are awesome for arranging this for us noobs.
I'm at the level where I can start but haven't gotten out of my street due to being in a very busy area.
If anyone is free tomorrow, and wants to give me a hand to get started, I would REALLLY appreciate a ride out of my area to a safe place to practice- ie: pillion on my bike.
If there's somewhere near your home and you have things to do in the house, you can come over and leave your bike at my place, take me to the spot near yours, then when you're ready come and tell me and we'll come back to my house (where your bike is), then you can go home. I'm broke now, but I'll owe a box of quality beer to anyone who can do this for me.
This would give me the practice I need to get on the road in traffic instead of just going down my street and walking it back, thinking I'll die if I go any further. I'm surrounded by busy roads, in case you're wondering.
I'm in Newmarket anyway, cell number 021 674 246.
Name's Lee, most friends call me Deviant.
Cheers to all!

Some moderate breeze can be expected tho :(
and the problem with that is???? in your sig you say you dont mind strong winds so why the issue over moderate breezes? nothing better to get your skills up than real world situations IMO. the only way you will stop fearing rain and wind is if you ride in them and learn how it affects your riding speeds and style. A good ride in the rain and wind can still be almost as much fun and enjoyable as all day sun and gentle breezes.

not sure what you have covered so far Big Dog but maybe riding in rain and wind tips could be helpful for some it sounds like. also some tips for riding at night?!?! perfect time for covering that ;) maybe cover different riding positions and the use of your knees and elbows to reduce fatigue / riding comfort, target fixation, safe and effective braking, keeping your levers covered etc... as for cone work i have no idea  i will just rely on your Obi Wan skills to come up with something that we all need to know ahahaha
