125 kmph changing crosswinds... riding bak home on the m-way from orewa to albany some 25 ks was a daunting task! Even though I was doin max 80 with highbeam and blinkers on with a visibility of barely 20 feet, crouched up into the tank tighter than rossi or caparossi have ever been; i though I wuda binned it atleast 2ce along the way, many thoughts came rushing back to mind... but thats a topic for another thread...
Only experience saved me some anguish today. I shall not do that in a hurry again if i can help it. Takin the bus to work tomorrow. But I am a better rider for it now that I am home safe and the bike is in the garage.
Top marks to my wet riding gear ( cordura) Im dry as a bone and my leather gloves, what brilliance, I highly recommend the spool racing gloves. 100% dry though theyre not even wet weather gloves. Lovely.
Didnt c a single bike along the way, must b smarter than I am, or musta been on the side of the road in a drain somewhere.
Im fuckin pumped and scared... my hearts beating 1.34 times faster than normal... I can feel my pulse through my kneck lol.
Fuckin top marks to me for not binning today and my 6 brilliant balance... :headbang:
Cheers Raj.

The very reason I stayed home today... bugger getting caught at work and having to sit in traffic... in strong cross winds!
And now... here sits I in the dark LOL... power outage. Aaaa yes - the joy of living rural. No pwer means no phone, TV or radio and no pump... so no water... toilets or showers LOL.
Baked Beans for tea tonight me thinks.

Getting blown into oncoming traffic on the greenhithe bridge... twice.. then some muppet failing to give way at the roundabout making me yank the brakes on... im sure the back wheel came off the ground ay.. nasty. Quick mirrorectomy and I was on my way...
Ride safe out there folks!!
And think of me at about 11pm tonight when I get to ride home from work!!!

My thoughts will be with u at that treacherous time Dan, its a fukin mission. Id keep her at 80. I tried 70 was too slow to fight the wind and 90 was too fast. if that helps.

Allow extra braking distances too... I found it takes 1/2 a second before the disks are dry enough to really start gripping in the pouring rain.
Stay safe all...bitch of a night out there

Good shit Raj to stay up AND dry!
I've been told I'm taking the car tomorrow, said I'd think about it, haven't had to yet and even in crap weather it's so much slower than the bike. And paying for parking messes with my moral stability.

I had a close call with a speeding wheelie bin on my way from the parking lot. That probably was the longest commute ever. I kept thinking whether I am going to end up blown to the left over the curb or to the right into oncoming traffic.
DD, wish you a safe ride home. You are in my prayers.

Prayers is what all bikers need out there in this weather, I dont recall Auckland having such terrible gale force winds before, 2 trees blew over and leaves everywhere... cant even c the pavement leading to my house, all covered in leaves... may the force be with... er I mean be far far away 4m u.

what a gay retard, seen some inconsiderate fuks lately.... Im not riding again till the weather clears, or atleast the wind calms down a bit, I dont mind the rain, its the cross winds that hit my bike n almost carry it away, with me putting all the weight i can on the handles... hopeless almost... take my advise dont ride if u own a descent bike... its not worth the risk...

Anything with a fairing isn't great in the wind.... Going to get a car as an alternative for the real crap days I think....

That was a right laugh... did nearly 100kms today around the city, Manukau, Remuera and North Shore; you guys need to HTFU :D
About 5pm in the city was the worst, I think -- the wind was bad enough, but having to dodge flying milk bottles (no joke!) whilst stopped (with both feet firmly down) at the traffic lights had me really going.
A lot of fun, actually -- as I said in the other thread, I like weather like this, it keeps the posers off the road :D -- sharpens you up.
If you just relax and keep the RPM up it's a whole lot easier. Our Wellington friends I'm sure can provide a good education on this.
I'm glad my bike has no fairings, as it's only 125kg dry as it is.

get that darn weight off your bars and onto the pegs... lower the center of gravity.
Yeah everyone seems to act funny when it raining and/or windy... too much water getting in their ears...

I get ur point Dan but with the height my pegs sit at my shoes almost touch my inner thies and with me crouched up on the tank, id have to b standing on the bike to get any weight on the pegs. Either that or have sore calves trying. most of my weight is on my chest which is on the tank... but im not ridin any more so thats that. U take care bro. Ur pegs eill b lower.

Got to say, I was a little disappointed... All the bad looking weather, rode home all expectant around 7.30 (when office was hit in a big power cut), and ended up doing slalom down roads, to have a bit of fun when crosswinds hit me.
Felt like going over the harbour bridge, on a clip on (spesh after I saw the warning from cops) but wanted dinner.

Strong winds but at least the rain kept away. Southern motorway well and truely snarled up (1810hrs). NW empty after Carrington..... 110 all the way to the end.
About the same this morning except less gusts.
Just be careful out there people.........

Yeah the weather was terrible, I wouldn't let pyro ride home in it, even though he works in the viaduct and we live in Mt Albert.
Horrible thing was I was home by myself until 9.30 cause he was working late! We are surrounded by bush and it was banging against the house.. BuFfY was scared!!
