RG150 oil usage

Can any current/previous RG150 owners tell me generally how much oil I should be using per km? Being my first 2-stroke (and also first bike), I have no frame of reference to go off!

The reason I ask is that I've now done just over 600km since I got it, topped up the petrol three times but the oil level guage hasn't moved at all - not even a bit. Does this sound normal? The bike seems to be running fine but again, no frame of reference so what do I know... ;)

That's a little worrying. Oil use is greatly dependent on how hard you ride the bike though. If you're just commuting, that might be normal.

Does your exhaust smoke? I can engulf an entire car when I'm fanging it :) but I run it pretty rich.

Rev your bike hard a few times when it's warm. After settling down to an idle it should smoke a bit.

I wouldn't trust the oil gauge... take the back fairing off (not hard to do.. there is 2 screws in about the middle of the fairing and 4 pull out knobs near the tank) and check the oil manually to make sure you have some there. I would fill it and in about 300kms check it again.. that way you know how much you are using for your style of riding and your bike, as even RG 150's will use slightly different amounts to each other.

Good idea - I've already had all the fairing off last week to have a poke around so I'll do it again and see what I can find out. I know it's getting some oil through as when the choke is on I can easily smoke out the neighbours... :innocent:

I used to go through about the equivalent of $6 of TTS 2t oil per 100kms on my RG... can't remember how much a 1litre thingy of oil is, but that wasn't too long ago...

Brilliant - took the back fairing off and saw the oil container was around half empty so topped it up. Took around half a litre to fill it. :rockon:

Anyway, it looks like the guage I was checking is for brake fluid... Did I mention this was a first bike? :innocent:

What oil gauge? There's a little sight on the side, but I think that's for rear brake fluid.

What I did was fill it up till it could take no more, Every few weeks or so.

Just whack off those fairings and have a look :yes:

Edit - saw above reply. At first I thought that brake fluid level indicator was fuel level indicator. Ran out of fuel on the way to uni. Thank god for reserve.

haha I was reading through thinking.."what model RG have they got because I've never seen an oil gauge" but yea be glad you didnt run it out of oil
