It's OK, my last bundle dropped off a couple of months ago. It's been a barren, demerit-point-free wilderness of $150 infringements and camera tickets for the last couple of years.

If I had mirrors that did more than show me my elbows, I might have seen the black Commodore glide into range behind me after I pulled out and wrung all twenty of my ponies by the neck.
Running late to get home, you see.
Blah, blah, blah.

Weeeeeellll... I *was* 33kph over, you know. And it was only a couple of hundred meters from a primary school, albeit at 6pm on a Friday night.
I am a Bad Man.
At least he didn't ticket me for the unwarrantably shagged rear tyre, although it received a raised eyebrow and a comment along the lines of 'you'll be taking it easy round the corners then'.

O man I feel for ya! :o :disapint: :crybaby: I really dislike Hobsonville Road. It's boringly slow and often has a van speeding camera parked somewhere. I usually avoid it on my way home from work by taking the country road down past the airbase that links up further down Hob Rd about 400m from my house.
I'm glad I read this thread cos I would have probably had a wet cd in my mailbox otherwise. Thanks for that.

You know, I worked a lot of overtime in '03 (too much, in fact). I figured out this morning that in the financial year to the end of March '04, I paid precisely enough income tax to cover two single mothers on the DPB with two kids each.

Its not so much a stroll, as a definite walk or even a decent hike, at least on all the bikes I've owned...
Milky's ZXR400 is an exception to that though. It seems to like 120ish (maybe because thats where I notice it getting to and I manage not to let it go too much above). It keeps going there, and I keep saying "down boy", but it just goes back there by itself, I swear....

Sorry to put a damper on the "Feel sorry for JR" thread. BUT yes you could have taken some kid out at that speed if the ball had rolled out on the road. Or yourself and how the hell would KB survive without JR. I know I am a bit of a nana but ................
Posh Tourer :P
24th September 2004, 22:05
well, yes... but that could happen in any rural town with a 70kmh speed limit too... I know the speed limit is there for a (good?) reason, but accidents do happen. Sometimes there is just no getting away from it.
I'm not advocating speeding here, just trying to offer an alternative viewpoint/look a bit deeper into the "over the limit = dangerous" idea.

Sorry to put a damper on the "Feel sorry for JR" thread....
When I said "I feel for ya" I didn't mean in the sorry sense - I meant it like "yeah I know how much of a dork you feel like cos I been there myself". He deserves everything he gets, so do any of us if/when we get stopped! :weep:

An interesting thought here.... Perhaps we have, by default, increased our safety standards. What were vehicles like when the speed limit was decided upon? And was there the awareness of road danger brought on by large amounts of traffic that there is now?
Meh. I'll continue to stick to pretty much the tolerance level. The system don't work if you try to rationalise your individual reasons for breaking the rules....

Except that in our rush to commiserate we forget that we should really be rejoicing, because your contribution to the quota has reduced our chance of being nabbed.
And, on second thoughts, I don't think the grace of God would have helped.

In response to the comments, attempting a runner would have been a really, really silly idea, given that:
(a) Mr Black Holden Man had oodles and oodles of time to note my rego. My mirrors are so useless that he followed me with disco lights going for a while and had to blip the siren to get my attention.
(b) The poor little FXR wouldn't be likely to hold more than 130 or so along that road, no matter how hard I tried, and I'm pretty sure an 'S' Commodore could juuuuust about keep up...
(c) 33 over is a fair cop, after all. I should take my medicine.
As suggested, the only instance where I would consider 'avoiding contact' is while filtering on the motorway. But the tactical situation during motorway filtering is such that I never need to do anything that attracts the attention of our already-overworked LEOs, in any case.
Right. Back to the interesting threads about whose birthday it is and how good Jaz looks with StoneChucker's big thing between her legs...

A slight error in judgment involving 'orange', 'red', the difference between such and the involuntary actions of my throttle hand at the Nelson Street offramp this morning led to a pleasant (but, at $150, rather expensive) rendezvous with a member of our fine constabulary on an ST1100.

Well I am compelled to admit that I was treated fairly by a policeman on the weekend. I was having a little blat along SH16, as ya do, on my little red white and blue FZR600 and was caught on radar at 128km. Probably the fastest I went all day so that was a bit suck-ish but I was fairly caught. The copper told me that I was up for (I think he said) 35 demerit points and a $280 (???) fine but that he would only book me for 120km (20 demerits and $120). Just because he was feeling kindly to an aged man on a little FZR600..?? Or was it my pathetic blubbing and whining...??? So I thought, well, there is humanity in the HP after all. I guess the fact that there was another bike with me, travelling at similar speed and that I was the first one he scoped was a factor. And of course, clear roads, good conditions, warranted and WOFed bike, geriatric rider....all mitigating factors., officer...
So I returned my pillion passenger (my 11 year old daughter..yes, I know, shame on me ...) to her lovely mother (my darling ex) after cajoling her not to tell mummy and now I await the outraged phone call...
But worst of all, and most unforgivable of all, I squashed flat a little baby duckling on my way back home (it was an accident, OK??)...and now my daughter doesn't love me any more :bye:

A bit tangential, but I once failed a warrant because of hedgehog spines sticking out of the tyre sidewall.
Ducklings wouldn't cause so much of a problem, though.

Actually, I just don't think it's my month.
A slight error in judgment involving 'orange', 'red', the difference between such and the involuntary actions of my throttle hand at the Nelson Street offramp this morning led to a pleasant (but, at $150, rather expensive) rendezvous with a member of our fine constabulary on an ST1100.
I think I might start swimming to work.O well JR, wrong place at the wrong time & all that! I think I saw that same HP biker (there's only 1 on that beat isn't there?) on my way to work along the N'Western last week. As I was going past the Pt Chev on-ramp, just around the corner that cop was standing beside his bike watching the traffic like a hawk when he glued his eyes on me, and at that very moment I was splitting between two cars!! :pinch: I looked in my mirror an low & behold he mounts his bike immediately and gets in the flow of traffic about 5 cars behind me, "here we go" I thought. He followed me all the way into town (off course I was on my bestest behaviour in his sight) but never stopped me - phew! :sweatdrop He could have ticketed me but didn't. The feeling is kinda like when a police car comes screaming up behind you with his lights flashing and your heart starts beating out of control, you pull over to take your punnishment and he just screams on past...
Do you need a cash loan? ;)

I've nodded to this same chappie, doing the same job (red light enforcement at the Nelson Street offramps) on many occasions past during my morning commute. It's about the least sensible place to run a red light in Auckland. I have no idea what was going on in my head this morning.

Heh. Like I said, I think I'll just let this lot fall through into the Department of Courts... I'll pay it before the second round of court costs hits. The delay is worth the extra $60 for the initial transfer. If I find any spare cash soonish, I'd rather get a new rear tyre.
