View Full Version : My brother died yesterday.

Macktheknife
6th August 2007, 09:02
Most of you never met him but he was a KBer, and a very skilled rider. Riding however is not what killed him.
He died of a suspected heart-attack at home, at the age of 47.
He is survived by a wonderful partner and 2 beautiful children under 3 years, who were his reason for living and greatest joy.

He was also my friend and taught me how to ride a motorbike, how to throw a knife, bait a hook, set a trap, snap bones and a million other things that I don't remember at the moment. He was a kind and gentle man who would help anyone if he could and gave his time willingly and with great patience for those who needed it.

Goodbye Steve, godspeed brother, I will do everything I can to help and protect your precious children and partner.

I am devastated.
The world is a poorer place today.

This is awful Mack. I wish I could say something to make you, your family and your brother's family and friends feel better, but of course that's impossible.

Sending warm virtual hugs from sunny Brisbane, and feeling really sad for you all right now . . . your brother sounds like a true gentleman. If only we could swap the lives of a few of the scumbags in the news lately with his passing the world would be a better place.

Sincere condolences.

Jan.

Mate, this life is crazy. You can go in a single day from the best of times to the worst of times.

The night before we had a ball, I really can't remember a time I smiled so much. You wake up feeling good from the night before, shower then BANG! in an instant your world is rocked.

Thank you sir for an awesome nights entertainment and I am so very sorry for your loss.

Warren Zevon sang....

Sometimes when you're doing simple things around the house
Maybe you'll think of me and smile
You know I'm tied to you like the buttons on your blouse
Keep me in your heart for while
Hold me in your thoughts, take me to your dreams
Touch me as I fall into view
When the winter comes keep the fires lit
And I will be right next to you

Keep me in your heart for while

My heart goes out to you Mack, and Steve's family. Keep him real in his childrens lives over the coming years. Sometimes we find it so hard to talk about someone after they have died but it is healthy and the children need to grow up understanding what a great dad they had. He lives on in them.

Thank you all for your messages of support and Aroha, I am grateful beyond words and measure.

Steve was amazingly talented and loved his kids and partner more than anything else in the world.

I am currently working hard to arrange the funeral and related tasks so I have little time to catch up with KB, so finding this thread so full has really made a huge impact for me tonight, thank you all so much.

I will post more later.

BD - I asked Mack this last night and he said while it's appreciated. It wasn't something Steve asked for so - thanks but no.

With Mack's ok I'd like to wait a few weeks - let things settle... then have a beer or three in Steve's honour at an appropriate time and place. Of course if Steve would have enjoyed a roaring pissup instead... we may need to have a go at one of those.

All - see Big Dog's prior post and organised ride for one way to donate. See my sig for another way to donate - or time and effort donations can be put to good use too... but give it a wee while.

Cheers all
