Not sure of departure time at this stage but we will be on a large overloaded plodding whale if you see us on the road.

heres what Im thinking... OK
head North to Kaikoura (fuel up)
south and inland to Waiau (awesome ride)
leader road out and back to Staging Post (take it easy) :niceone:

Any good?

We came back from Hanmer this afternoon, took a detour and did the Leeder Valley road. Nice ride, no livestock seen but there were a dozen or so patches of gravel where road works are under way. You do get to see them from a fair distance though and they were easy enough to ride around or through ... even for us Leeder Valley virgins so not a major worry as long as you keep your eyes open.

The Leader Valley road is a good ride-its the inland Kaikoura road to Waiau that you have to watch out for.All round it makes a nice ride.

out of bed sat morn, hose the hay and bird dung of the old girl, push it up the hill and be waiting at Gretta Valley for any of you coming from south of me.
Watch out for a purple Dunnydoor between Amberley and Cheviot, the local mufty coppa only recently got it and has been pinging everyone he can.
The Garage at Gretta has new owners and is now open 7am -7pm 7 days, so for those turning off there from the inland route, a fuel up spot thats open!
Will be my first outing with you lot, so I will try to behave .

Hey there, one and all, I cant wait to get to the KB get together, it will be a blast, gonna hoon up there with IDB, so he will be riding one handed all the way, with the tortoise following him or perhaps I'll bum a lift of the old git who knows, always nice to have a rear seat look around, and guzzle beer on route,........:drinknsin

Just got back from a bikey mates 30th in Christchurch, went there on 4 wheels this time, met the crew at the 06 Nelson rally, and what a great bunch of people they are.....very fun to get pissed with I have to say:drinkup:

Went to Akaroa for the day on Saturday for lunch and man, the amount of bikes on the road, fair to say I was green with envy.

I reckon that we should have a shimmy to Akaoroa for a midsummer KB get together, dont think there is such a thing as too much motorbiking is there?

so will look to do that in February say, anybody else keen for a midsummer:wari: drinky poos and get together in Akaroa.

God I love that place, its just the best and for the speed freaks amongst you, the corners there are twisty turning and make you go dizzy.

Okay, gotta go, got double vision from getting drunk last night, going to bed late and getting up early and driving back to Queenstown........Fuck it next birthday bash in Christchurch, I am blinking well flying:finger:its just too far to do with a hangover.

See you all very soon at the Winchester and the Pyscho Magpie.

Coi for now, and a big:grouphug: to all of you.:soon:

Always keen for a fang over to Akaroa. I usually stick it at 100km/h for the boring straight bits up to Cooptown (just past Little River)... but then you hit the hill and get to have some fun! Traffic's a bitch on my bike though - not quite enough grunt up the hill to take care of them fast enough - but if you get a good day you don't have many cars spoiling your fun. Been known to head over to Akarao, back over the hill to Cooptown again, think "bah, I'm not done...", and fang back over the hill again... :ride:

January is pretty choc a bloc with the Waikia on 11th Jan and Hoky 22nd Jan :niceone:, so will look towards Mid February perhaps, or after the March Hare, as there's not much on then and we can say Farewell to hopefully what promises to be a hot summer, :sweatdrop: so they tell us.

Oh blast! I'm getting an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. Our daughter has been earnestly searching for a house to rent for her and her daughter for about 6 weeks now. I said to Mrs Oakie when the search started "I bet it'll be the weekend of the KB get together that she'll move" (because we said we'd help her move out). Well, she's in for a house and it's now down to her and a couple of other girls with an occupancy date of ... you guessed which weekend. I spoke to the landlord earlier this evening and apparantly she's the preferred tenant at the moment.
Ho hum. Can't do anything I suppose but wait and see.

Darn it. She got the flat and the moving date is Sunday 9th. While technically possible for us to still go to the Staging Post and come back early early Sunday morning, we've decided that riding back with a hangover just to start shifting heavy shit like fridges is just not worth it.
It's not all doom and gloom though. Thinking of the benefits of us having our house back to just Mrs Oakie and myself (including having loud crazy sex and being able to walk through the house naked again) will ease the pain of missing out on catching up with you folk this time around.

Have fun guys and ride safe.

So can anyone give me a possibile ETA for Greta Valley where I can join in to the cruse up to the staging post on sat morning?
I dont really want to be alone on the road, when I can follow such awsome riders as you guys/gals and learn how to keep on the right side of the speed limit. I dont need another ticket this year..............
Seems only to happen on the bike
Also, being new to this type of fun filled gathering of Wild Horsemen on Steel Steeds of Thunder, what do you recomend I bring for the evenings bullshit session?,
A quart of Jack Daniels.Jim Beam.Sirminoff, Bailies, or good old Johnny Red Walker, Cant find the stash of green, so bugger!!
And I guess a kilo of Marinateted Beef Sirloin Steak would be enough for my supper.
Would my old boy scout's sleeping bag be ok? I can steal a grey army blanket off the bed as well if expected to be cold.
Now I just need to find that fancy Back pack thing that was left in the boot of the last car dumped outside my gate to carry all this in, or would that be uncool.......can use and old hessian flour sack and bailing twine as a tote bag.
We are roughfin it are we not?

mmmmmmmm

So now Ive sorted out that lot,

What time did you say you were passing gretta valley?
The ol XS is all fueled up, brushed off the cobwebs (well most of them) checked the tyre pressures (Back one was flat)

What time do you think that you guys will be leaving Greymouth on Saturday?

sounds like a plan indeed ... when do you think you will come over to the coast then???

I will have to leave early to meet up with you guys and I was thinking that you would not be leaving until about 9-10 O'clock
Saturday morning.
So I would leave home at about 6 and should get there in 3 hrs.

That should plenty early enough I would think.
It should only take, what, 3.5-4 hours to get to The Gathering?

OK then my first stop will be the BP service station to full up at 161 Tainui St Greymouth and will txt then.:done:

no stir at all....im a big country fan....

I met a guy on the red eye
He spotted my guitar
and said what do you do?
I said, I sing for a living,
Country music mixed with
a little rock and a little blues
He said I'm sorry
but I've never been crazy
'bout that twang and trains and hillbilly thing
What ever made you want to sing stuff like that?
I just looked at him and laughed and said

cause it's songs about me
and who I am
songs about loving and living
and good hearted women and family and God
yeah they're all just
songs about me
songs about me

So I offered him tickets
I said you'll see what I mean
if you show up tonight
he said I doubt you'll change my opinion
I'll be kind of busy, but hey man, I'll try

Then later on when we finished our songs
about scars and cars and broken hearts
I saw him, he was standing there
right next to the stage
and he shouted
man you were right
it was like you sang those

songs about me
and who I am
songs about loving and living
and good hearted women and family and God
yeah they're all just
songs about me
songs about me

So I'll just keep on singing
'til I hear the whole world singing those

songs about me
and who I am
songs about loving and living
and good hearted women and family and God
yeah they're all just
songs about me
songs about me

Never realy planned going to this but having said that did not rule out the possibility. But had hoped to ride up on the day but both are out of the question. Re-kitting out the laundry and need to be here on the Sat for that. I will try and get an early start and ride up on the Sunday morn for the ride back. Most places you have to be out by ten so I'm picking that is about the time you will be leaving. I'll probably arrive about nine. Is there anyone else who is not going to this and wants to come up on the Sunday? PM me for a time and meeting place. Looking forward to seeing ya all.

Looking forward to this ride
decided to make sure my ride would make it a good run
So Thinking of the old girls age etc,
I drained her belly and gourged her with Good ole fleet deisel oil.
Fired her up and wow, allthe cold rattles have gone!
So she will live another ride ! COOL!
As Maintenance is something that should be done more often than I realistically do
The next thing was to remove and clean the air filter
Yeah Right!!!!
Lovely crome air box, tarnished with dust and spiders webs
BUT NO FRIGGIN FILTER!!!
Where the fudge am I going to get one of those befoe friday!
Oh well I just hope I dont have to ride down any dusty shingle roads
or I will be the last in the pack , plus an allowance for the dust to settle.
So.
New battery,
New brake pads on the front grabbers,
New WOF and Rego,
New tummy full of oil,
Looks like I've now got no excuse for not riding her.

( But Ive never had a licence officer!!)

So see all you southern riders Sat morning on the lay by at Greta Valley
Will be togged up and ready from say 9am?
Sound good to you guys heading my way?
Let me know am ETA at Greta if thats too early or late

Oh it will not be a slab I will be carrying, too bulky
Just a rather large bottle of something and some mixers,
have to make room for the tent and sleeping bag ,
Beer make me fart to much.
Dont want to create more Gass that what will be expelled Sat night as it is

Diesel oil is likely to wash out any crap that 'should' be in the bearings etc, so after a run I would replace it with a petrol rated oil, as the detergents may cause damage... but then she is a old slugger.

The bike might run lean with no filter causing you a lack of power at certain reves.
A mate at 50 just got his licence, always ridden too.
Id say Greta about 10am

We are looking at meeting up at the Peg Pub at 9am so anyone wanting to head north join in.
The plan is to head to the Staging Post, set up camp, head off to Kaikoura and return via the inland rd and the Leader rd back to the Staging post to rest.

The on into the uncharted wildness of Canterbury and a catch-up with some of the infamous Canterbury Rabble on Friday night.

At a backpackers in Methven, got a tad damp following large truck in the rain (couldn't see enough to pass safely) but we got here, had a rather large roast-beef dinner for $18, now about to kick back and r e l a x..

Still hope to go ballooning tomorrow but low cloud everywhere so don't know if we'll be up-up-and-away or not:confused:

Found out the 1450 bike is less thirsty than the 1200 - go figure??

And SKyrider, head north from Cheviot about 15 minutes and keep your eyes peeled to the right.

Or do a search on this thread..
