Well, some of you already know, that the good folk from KTL motorcycles, and the Anglo American motorcycle club, have generously offered Flame an '06 749r Duke to race, the bike is very near completion now, and she should be tearing up the track in no time at all.
I think this is absolutely fantastic, and cant think of a better way for a bike shop to get it's name out there, than to put my ladys sexy bum on the seat of a cool bike, they on the other hand, thought that having TWO 749's would do it better, and yours truely just happens to be the other arse!
So F2 will soon be invaded by a pair of satin black Dukes, LOOK OUT THE LOT OF YA!!!
Rock on, and any one who knows a good source for Duke parts, please PM me, as mine still needs a bit of work to get it track ready.

DUDE! Take it from me! Those things haul ass! Standard they make around 120hp, but chuck a race exhaust on and they get near 130! And thats with the motor untouched! Very reliable also! (doesnt matter what anyone tells you... They are bullet proof.
The Motomart 749r had a full Ducati Performance system on it (worth more than most F2 bikes out there!) . Sound great!
Get a good set of Carbon brake pads (beware!! NOT CHEAP!) and itll stop faster than anything out there.
You will need to play with the gearing a bit before they reach their full potential, Get a few blank rear sprockets made up, so you have a few options to suit you style. Not as easy to ride as an inline 4, but you have a ball learning what they can do. They need more gear changes than an inline 4 too, but you get used to that pretty fast.
Good luck.

Maybe try Jarrod (sp?) Love for bits? Dunno where he's located but there may have been some parts he didn't destroy.

Jarrod Love was on a 996, but was in line to ride a 749r. They may have a few bits.
Ebay have lots of bits too.

Seriously, fuggin' awesome news guys. When I was in Perth I used the guys at Vee Two (of Super Squalo fame) to work on my 916SP after a wee ground/sky/ground moment. The guy who started the busines is Kiwi Brook Henry and they make some of the best gear in the world for Ducati's.
Brook's son Ben raced a 749R in the Aussie superstock (standard 600 4's and 750 twin's) series and did very well. Brook is a very approachable bloke and there's nothing he doesn't know about Duke's and how to make 'em go fast(er)
They've recently been "acquired" by another company but I think Brook is still the main man.

Carefull there bro, some people still think, that a dynomometer, gives a real HP figure. Ignorance is bliss I suppose.
Dont anybody start wanking on about how conservative the dyno they use is, or how it is calibrated, cos the plain and simple truth is....
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN ACCURATE DYNO.
They are only any good for comparitive testing, and the only thing it will give within acceptable tollerances, is a percentage differential.

So my old SP-1 wasn't making 127HP at the rear wheel then ? Or Jimbo's Gixxer 750 not making 125HP ?
buggered if I know!! my point was in relation to rear wheel dyno figures on proper dynos...of which there is apparently only 2 factory pro's in the country and one other braked dyno...inertiea[*sp]/dynojet ones are hidiously full of shit!!
Factory standard 2006 749R 121hp mr Pooseywoosie:), well, according to the spec sheet. A little more with the Termi's and racekit bla bla bla.
2004 749R (Drewbums bike), 116hp ( I think )
factory crank figures indeed love!!
So how you doin anyway???
Check and Mate!
Thankyou Vicky.
The R model has titanium valves and is completly different from a "stock" 749.. blah blah...
So yeah.. On the Motomart Dyno, our 749r racebike made over 120hp at the rear. Only change we made was the Termi system.
I may know a little about it.:finger:
then why the hell arn't all the top supersport guys using them if thats the horse power they are making?? its more than sams or jays bikes were making!!! or is your dyno incorrect?? most likely!
I believe they were on the Motomart Dyno also...:innocent:
hmmmmmmmm
So at least it's lies are consistent? ;)
Carefull there bro, some people still think, that a dynomometer, gives a real HP figure. Ignorance is bliss I suppose.
Dont anybody start wanking on about how conservative the dyno they use is, or how it is calibrated, cos the plain and simple truth is....
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN ACCURATE DYNO. yes there are accurate ones...I'm sure we had this disscussion one night and for some un-fucking believable reason we agreed???
They are only any good for comparitive testing, and the only thing it will give within acceptable tollerances, is a percentage differential.

The thing I like about the Motomart dyno is that it gives a semi consistent HP figure when compared to the factory claims.
SP-1 - 140HP claimed (I assume at the crank)
MMart dyno - 127HP at the rear wheel
There may be no true corelation, unless the factory are using the same sort of dyno and calibrated equally.....unlikely, but close, perhaps.

The figure I was given on loss through the drive system, was fifteen percent, that was quite some time ago now tho, so I'd expect some gains have been made since then.
The claimed power figures from the factory, are worked out mathematically, using very lengthy equations, unfortunately however they work in perfect world scenarios, where air temp and densities are spot on, as are fuel octanes and the like.
Quoting factory figures is not wrong, it's just not really atainable anywhere but the labratory where the engine is developed.
I'm told, that Ducati actually Dyno all there bikes, I cannot find this piece of info on the web anywhere, but even if it is the case, I have once already pointed out the problem with Dynomometers.

Yup,I think they do,
Up to around 2005 they quoted rear wheel figures but these days crank HP figures to be more comparable with the figures the other factories use.

My bad - I gave the 'post' PCIIIr HP figure.
Standard was 117HP.
15% of 140 is 21 = 119HP........that's not bad eh ?
Even if the dyno is not accurate when compared to the calculations, it appears like it is, which isn't much help really but............... it looks good.

The Dukes are good, but they Don't have the poke of a Jap four. They are easy to ride, very easy, and very quick round corners. Provided you dont have a Jap fastbike plonked in front of you. With a bit more weight you need to 'moumentum' ride, and be on the throttle at lots of lean, use the extra feel and grip at the exit. This is where they become hard to get the most out of.
They are a great bike to put a qualifying lap on, and damn hard and frustrating to race!
And they really suit they way i ride....I LOVED haveing that 748R for a few rounds, but it was slow enough that it ended in tears....able to lap at leaders pace, and slow enough to get trapped in 15th..

Oh yea, at levels, on the tight track, I finished a best of 6th, right behind Sam, Craig, the aussies, and Stroudy.
I qualifed 6th at Ruapuna, the next round, but in the races got stuck round slower riders, who had fast bikes, down in 15th. That was also a tight track. I can only fear what it would have been like at Puke, or paticully Manfeild, with no fast corners to give it an andavntage, but lots of acceleration... :S

Remember when the thousands came out? Everybody said they were too grunty for the road. And yet those of us stupid enough to buy them anyway, and could make them boogy, would all say we wanted a bit more in places. At the hill climb I was on quite possibly the quickest bike there, but comin through the flat out section half way up, I was screaming at my bike to get off it's arse.
