View Full Version : Auckland: The McJim's Farewell Ride & BBQ (15 September)

Hellraiser
19th August 2007, 17:59
For those that don't already know, McJim & Chickadee have been hit on the head a little too hard and have decided to move their family down to some place called the South Island, so i thought we may have a ride and BBQ to bid them a farewell.

Date: Saturday 15th September 2007
We will meet at BP Botany @ 11:00am

Without getting into to much detail the general idea is to have a seperate ride for the less experienced riders that will be a short ride of about 2 hours and a longer ride for the experienced riders 4 hours+. This will however depend on the numbers attending. Route will be revealed on the day but the general idea for the longer ride will involve going through Tauranga and then across to SH22, open to Suggestions on which roads to take

NOTE: This ride is NOT newbie friendly, and will be at a medium pace with very few stops

In other words you need to be able to ride at open road speeds confidantly

Sign up HERE (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=1355&day=2007-9-15&)

There will be a BBQ afterwards at our place we will supply Salads & Sausages etc ... etc BYO Drinks & any other meat you may want.

"McJim & Chickadee have been hit on the head a little too hard and have decided to move their family down to some place called the South Island," . . . . .Quote

What do you mean? Hit over the head . . . . .? That's too easy must be a more difficult procedure to have any one made sane and be able to come and live down here.

"Reviled"! Any ride up there would be reviled but us down here on the empty roads.

Have a good get together and don't forget, they let us ( those of us who live down here ) onto KB. Cheers.

For those that don't already know, McJim & Chickadee have been hit on the head a little too hard and have decided to move their family down to some place called the South Island, usw

...as Billy Connolly once famously said of the first Scots to settle in NZ..."It's nay f*cken cold enough...further sooth"...hence they all ended up in Dunedin :cold::cold:

Allegedly, it also takes a Scotsman a full week in the sun to turn from pale blue to white...then another week to turn from pale blue to pink...allegedly :innocent:

Have fun ya wee Scottish thingy ya.

It will either be at mine or Hellraiser's. He's kindly offered to host since the shindig is his idea but rather than let his gaff get all biked up I'm happy to clear the garage where I reckon I could park about 10 bikes at least plus there's the driveway.

BBQ will be when we get back from wherever we go so prolly be back by 3:30 or 4:00pm.

Hey McJim - where you moving to? Might have to have another meet-up once you're settled in? Don't worry, I can understand a Scottish accent just fine. No idea what gave me that skill, but it was useful on my trip to the UK. There's a Glaswegian at my work too, reminds me of my trip! Noone else can understand her, lol... :girlfight:

Yep - it looks like a good 'un. Since the buyers of our house have pushed back the date it looks as though we'll be here until November now - still, who needs an excuse for a ride and a BBQ?

hehe When Baybeblade2250RR, Breakaway and I was about to leave, Mav told me "Hey I should organise a Newbie ride ey, remember this ride was NOT a newbie friendly etc etc..."

AARRGH!!!

I know I was struggling but it was MY BIKE not me! lololol
Seriously I can handle 25-35 corner at EASE but on the straights, it's absolutely Donkey Bum Hole!

Ah MAN! I so hate my bike.... Even Skidmark laughed at my bike! (ofcourse he would lol)
It's so disappointing! Fahurk! lol
It really upsets me that I can hardly overtake a car!

I guess this bike is not designed for these weekend rides :(

aaah... sigh....
How am I going to survive this Rotovegas ride on Saturday? :(

Your bike would be a hellacious flick machine for the corners. I wouldn't listen to Mark either, he still has chicken strips.

Will post more about the day later. Needless to say it was a pleasure meeting the faces behind the handles and taking the Hornet for a decent length ride.

I'd like to say thanks to everyone who rode and to everyone who turned up for the BBQ afterwards. We had a great time. Unfortunately for you lot the buyers of our house have pushed the hand over date back to 2nd November so we'll be here for 5 weeks longer than anticipated.

Gotta love the roads out to Whangamata though:scooter:nice xonditions too.

You were fine. Next time go near front of pack as it's harder following. Don't be goaded into risky overtakes and going into corners too hot to try and keep up the big bikes. Better you arrive 5 minutes later than not at all (and it will only be 5 minutes)

Good to see ya'll. Hope yous all had hangovers. Pulled a u-turn just after Opoutre. If it had been twisties on way back I probably would have went to BBQ.

Hi all, just to say I joined the ride yesterday as well. It was a great sunny day and I enjoyed the ride very much. I've only clocked up about a thousand 'kays since I got my bike in June but yesterday I clocked up nearly 300 in a day.... so apologies for being a bit tired looking, I had chronic cramp in my leg and a headache from squinting in the sun all day, will bring sunnies next time...
It was the longest and fastest I have been out on my bike and it was great expierence for me, and a big thumbs up to Donor for being tail end charlie and taking up my considerable slack.

Great day, Cheers!

Donor

Hey Yoss... good riding with ya yesterday bud, you were a different rider by the second half of the day, that's for sure.

And to everyone else in the group - sweet ride yesterday, thanks must go to gijoe1313 & Maverick for leading us, everyone else for turning up including the 250 fan boys, and of course to the Mcjims for pissing off out of JAFA land so we had an excuse to ride and abuse their hospitality. (Not to mention the fact we'll probably have to do it again... BUGGER!)

Personally, only downside to yesterday was before the ride when Justin and I were on the pre-ride ride, and a sparrow or something of similar mass decided to use me as a form of braking whilst the mighty ZZR was hurtling me out past Clevedon at 110km/h. Fuck that hurt, still at least it probably hurt the bird more...

Thanks for coming on the ride all those that turned up!

Big thanks to John (Hellraiser) and his lovely wife Sarah for organising and watching the McWeeins so we could go for the ride. Bottle of bubbly for the lady tiz owed!

Awesome day, awesome ride and awesome company. Sorry if I burnt the meat folks, a woman should never be left in charge of a BBQ (I can cook - but BBQ's aren't my forte').

Nice to see Yossi out there getting some good experience on the roads, keep riding with us - the more you ride the less discomfort you'll suffer (if you're not riding regularly).

Great ride, will have to do some more rides before we dissapear from Aucks.

Looking forward to seeing some pic's from the day Gijoe1313/aka Justin!

Finally getting around to processing photos from the ride! Sheesh, people must have forgotten what they must have seen from yesterday already!

Hold yer horses and gimme a little bit o'time! Now, where did that camera go...

Okay okay, here they be!

Pic 1 : Donor and I did a pre-ride ride so we could scout out the road conditions in case we had to prepare for newbie noobs! :innocent:

Pic 2 : The BP gathering spot, plenty of KB arse to look at :puke: some better to look at then others ... you be the judge in the rest of the photos!

Pic 3 : blah blah ride to Waihi blah blah slow pissant group to Kaiua blah blah arse rhubarb custard mutter mumble we're off soon

Pic 4 : His Nibs, big Scottish bloke on an Eyetie bike doing his spiel about keeping it real and making sure knees down are legit ones.

Pic 5 : Ooh, finally before the twisties of Kaiaua gorge - fun fun fun! Hmmm seems like a lot of bikers ... standing around, and not riding ... odd that, most of the photos seem to have them that way!

Pic 6 : Didya know that there was more talking of shite and standing around looking feckless?

More photos to come...

And .... ah bugger it you know the drill...

Pic 1 : And here we have an odd assortment of likely suspects, can you spot the wee widdly whacker outside the girl's locker room? Can you vouchsafe the light fingered monkey boy that steals men's underwear from washing lines? There is a questionable hobbyist who likes to sniff used calving gloves and also an addict who prefers to touch roadkills with their nose!

Pic 2 : The famous Top Gun Maverick and his new neophyte hanging onto his every word of wisdom, as he describes and demonstrates the famous "Kaiua Gorge Low Side from Decreasing Hairpin Uphill Lefthander manuever"

Pic 3 : Ooh I do recall someone saying "$2 for this piece of fish!?" Much ginger beer downed and the famous Spankme turned up (he was not pictured since the glare from his dome interfered with the shot)

Pic 4 : "Now that's some finger licking good!" "er...you do realise you didn't wash your hands after you left the toilet ya know!"

Pic 5 : Ooh, forgot to include pic of Chickadee and colour co-ordinated minions from the Kaiaua gorge bit, enjoy you manky mongrels perusing pictures posted! :devil2:

Pic 6 : There isn't any :bleh: see next post

There was a funny ride out to Kopu, down to Paeroa and eventually wending our merry way back to the Hunuas. Here's some visually occular representations in a pixellated form that may be pleasing to your receptors.

Or not.

Please yourself or not! :kick:

Pic 1 : And here we have ladles and jellyspoons, Lot number 87 - a fine collection of two wheeled conveyances designed to preambulate one's person around in an upright and forwardly going manner, any bids?

Pic 2 : Notice the indentations of various insectoid anatomies on screens, wide strips of poultry present on rubber spherical objects and the lack of care paid to maintenance, cleaning...

Pic 3 : Ooh, more arse! Notice the loos in the background, well known for a quick bit of illegal, underaged, same-sex nookie...

Pci 4 : Zut alors! It iz zee cliched zhot of zee bottle with el plonker capitanos in front no?

Almost finished with zee er, I mean the random as photo menagerie of malicious malfeasance and malingering musings of a most mottled and mixed motivation...

On the way home form McJim's me and babyblade stopped for a bit to discuss the route, and some munter on a CBR250 pulled up behind us. My wifes comment while reading the thread over my shoulder... "He's kidding right".

...When I read it, I was more concerned with whether or not he'd remembered to tell them to stop. All that chopping late at night, I can just see the noise control complaint now !

...but hey, they have a mental illness - depression for example. Does not mean your a psyco.

Its not like Mason Clinic where patients are locked up in rooms/wings etc. They are living in a community facility... heck there could be a residential support living house right next door... you would never know!

Shit SkidMark, you like to push the boundaries, by the sounds of what people on the ride have said to me, every single thread you have made was made redundant by your idiotic actions. Well done!
