Jobs in Perth

Have heard lattely.that there a lot of jobs over in Perth.
Paying good dough.
Iron ore mines i think.Apparently there was a program on TV the other night about it..but i missed it.
There was a web site advertised. and an employment agentcy here recriuting staff.
Did anyone see this? or have a web site to look,,or any links..
I have googled it..but it manly white collar jobs.
Mainly looking at engineering.jobs.
But i know they are looking for people to work many trades.
Have worked on these big sites before.its not to bad when u get used to it.
Some have free accomodation and food

My aunties were born in Perth and currently live there now. One of them has just done her heavy trucking license. She is going to be working in the mines driving the big dump trucks.

So yeah the money is good.

Hated the place. Not the end of the earth - but you can see it.

Remember of course the jobs probably aren't actually in Perth, they are like a gazillion kms away where the mines are and the women aren't.

My connection has been through the railway side of things and I went up there back in 1990 and it was fun to visit but I doubt you'd want to stay too long, but sure go and make a quick buck and make sure trips to Perth on a regular basis are part of the deal so you at least see civilisation occasionally.

Spent 8yrs in west Aus mines. 99% are at least 300km from Perth. If you wish to get into the industry:
Get your HT license(even if you have no desire to drive, it is almost a requirement due to the machinery onsite).
Choose carefully what you wish to do.(if your 60kg, and opposed to maual labour, don't put your hand up to be a powder monkey:Blast Crew).
The dollars are high due mostly to the hours worked.(a secretary on site makes way less than a drill fitter who works up to 90hrs a week.)
Best angle is to get a contact in towns like Pt Hedland, Newman, Karratha etc. The jobs don't come to you. You need to consider moving to a mining town like above, an be ready to take up whatever is offered.
If it was so easy, every Aussie would be doing it.
Good luck. Enjoy the heat,noise,dust,drunks etc.
It can be very rewarding if you stick at it, but it sure isn't everyones cup of tea.

Edit: Kev, if you have worked on sites like Waihi, and know your way around Dozers, Dumpys etc then you will fall into a job. Contact Roche Bros, Leightons, Henry-Walker etc directly. Fitters and HT mechanics are gold.

There's good money up there, but saying it's in Perth is a bit of a stretch.

Last year i did a 3 month stint in Kimberly. That's near Perth. Compared to London....but they think nothing of driving 8 hours to get to the neighbours house. Most travel is done by plane - I had a workshop in Kimberly but flew everywhere to do my job - nothing to spend 2 hours in a light plane to get to where you need to go.

The mines are supplied by contract airlines that fly guys in and out - month on month off is reasonably common, but you can work much more if you want. Pay for rock truck driver can start at around $80k Aus.

It's tough work, but rewarding. Everyone is screaming out for staff at the moment - they are even advertising for pilots, which is unheard of!

To get an idea of scale, Kimerbly is the centre of 'The Kimberly', an area populated by about 40000 people, and bigger than New Zealand.

I visited a mine site a coupla times when I was in Aus, and got chatting to quite a few people.

Apparently the main thing that people can't handle is the effin unreal heat in the summer, the long hours, and the fact that the camp sites these days are extremely regimented.

If you can cope with those things, you'd be laughing. But I was told by a mine HR person that they only take applicants seriously if they are actually in Aus, ticketed, and ready to rock and roll. Though if you are one of the occupations that they are desperately short of, such as electrician, boilermaker, diesel mechanic, I guess that wouldn't apply.

If I was healthy enough, I'd drive the dump trucks for a coupla years. I found on the fishing boats it was so easy to save shitloads cause you had nothing to spend your money on for weeks at a time.

Plus someone else doing the cooking is great! :clap: Oh, wait. I was the cook . . .

As the old saying goes ya don't get nuthin' for nuthin'.

Yup it's hard work but you get rewarded for it, simple as that. If ever you've thought about going then NOW is the time to do it and you could go a long way towards setting yourself up for life with a few years work.

As a Kiwi I actually found the mines work more interesting than the offshore stuff because of the locations. What is a boring waste land to many Aussies can be pretty spectacular to a Kiwi who's never seen anything like it.

Take your annual leave jump over there for a couple of weeks and scope out a few agencies. It'll cost you a couple of grand but you'll make that up in no time once you score a job....or you could sit back and winge about shit wages, shit weather and wonder why everyone else gets a break.

Big Dave says he spent a week in Karratha one afternoon, well I spent one night in Dampier where we only saw one good looking chick. Perhaps if I'd drunk more maybe the other two might have looked better too, but then there's a few thousand guys around.
