my mate was putting the rear shock back in his boys quad and now it wont start.

The symptoms.

turn the key on and the neutral light comes on when he pushes the starter the neutral light goes out but nothing else.
turn key off then on again the neutral light comes back on again and if he trys key the same thing happens.
there's no click or nothing just the light goes out.
it can be push started and it goes fine .
just the starter is not working.
does this suggest a short with what the neutral light is doing?
any help appreciated.

Hi

Sounds like it Could be a dodgy connection - check the battery terminals first.
Probably blow fuses if it was a short.

Like bimota says, dodgy connection, like battery lead, or a dead battery. Test battery by turning lights on, indicators if they exist, se if its got some life.

Sounds like a simple flat battery to me. the N light means nothing it draws about 0.02A the starter motor would be around 20A peak.

Charge the battery overnight and see how you go.

Also the loose connection idea is a good one too, check the battery and starter motor connections. Also make sure they are clean.

What?

If it's anything remotely like my quad, the starter solenoid is close to the rear shocks, and the plug that goes into the solenoid comes adrift quite easily. Bloody easy to knock it loose; bloody difficult to see.
