hey, yeah i spotted ya....I was on the RF leading the group up that hill you were coming down...but what were doing at the back?? :nono: RF's always lead the way mate
yeah we got wet on the way home, a few patches here and there but then a serious soaking between Waiouru and Taihape but it's all good aye - hell of a day, hell of a ride, bloody good roads up that wayWhen we came across you guys I was coming down the hill just out of Te Kuiti & was at pace so didn't get a good look @ all the bikes (could barely manage a wave @ that speed lol).
I was @ the back cause I didn't have my fuel cap on properly & comin up the hill out of Te Kuiti I was getting fuel sprayed in my face lol :innocent: So stopped to sort that one out.
Out of our group im usually in 2nd spot once we pan out as one of the lads has a radar detector, is a more experienced rider & has a faster bike than I (a brand new 140BHP/122nm torque 1200cc V twin Moto Morini Cassaro) so he usually leads our group on rides.
But yeah hell of a day for a ride was simply fantastic, lovin the RF with a fresh service & new rear tyre, me chicken stripes are small as after this ride :headbang:

Yep, a good day. Long and varied. I was a little tired so never quite found my flow. It came and went a few times so not all was lost lol.
Nice to meet some new people along the way. Those Naki Rd's are just brilliant north of NP!
Fair bit of rain on the way down, normally wouldn't be a problem but I had my leathers on, and wet leather is not exactly warm.
Lost Jonno briefly, but he made an amazing reappearance thank god
Gary H was brilliant in the twisties, Sarah got lost and had an 'experience' on the way back - speaking of the Vinegar Hill one way jump, I mean bridge
Maybe she can explain, thanks Gary for the rescue
All up, a big but good day

I'd thought you'd know Chancey from your own experience.
Basically not enough regrouping.
When I did catch up (10mins down the road) I tried to phone Cowboyz and Sarah tried to ring 86.
Bonez played tail end Charlie for most of the ride but I think he was getting sick of it in the end.
Apart from that I enjoyed the ride as it took my mind off everything else for a bit.

You, Bones2 and a few others did a bit too.
On a lighter note I'm proud to anounce that the CX shead a pillion peg in the Naki somewhere in the tradition of an Asshurt(SP) run. Was wondering if any Naki riders come across it, wishfull thinking I know, please PM me. Chocy fish as a reward. Wondered why it was vibrating a bit more than usual and sounded louder on the rh side. The exhaust was flapping about on the header studs.
Oh and the tolal oil consumption 1.2ltrs for those interested.

We waited at the turn off to Vinegar hill for quite some time but heard nothing. Regrouping? Bonez stood pretty much at the side of the road as to let everyone know where we were so short of jumping out front of people motoring along the road there was not to much else that could be done. Just so as there is no misunderstanding i'm not having a crack at Sarah OR anyone else. I know from experience myself the it's all to easy to miss such things when you're giving the road and your riding the attention it it deserves. No harm done anyway coz that road pretty much was going nowhere but Palmy. The ride....ah the ride, to be completely honest the rain was a pain but for me failed to put any kind of damper (pun intended) on the day due to the company I was in so in a nut shell it was yet another great day in great company on great bikes on great roads! It's days like yesterday that take motorcycling from a great pastime to the best pastime:Punk: It was great to finally meet Sarah, Pritch008 and Bones2 and put names to faces. The weather here is FREAKIN' awesome and i'm in the process of trying to dry bits and pieces out well enough to ride in (maybe lunchtime). Thanks to all for a number off 1st's for me yesterday as 95% off those roads I had never ridden before.

Was a little tired and sore when i got home last night I sure wish i had the meanie seat on the concours
Had an awesome day and enjoyed the company imensley Met a few more kbers on the way
Sarah seemed to enjoy riding the hornet and from what i saw, which wasnt much (the concours dosnt like hanging at the back like the meanie did) she was definitly getting the hang of it Sorry you missed us at the turn of to viniger hill Sarah but sounds like you had some fun of your own Do tell
I have to say the best part of the ride for me is the road between eight mile junction and Taumarunui, that rocks and is so much better without a police escort eh dogs :msn-wink:
Dam it rained in Wiaouru, my gloves were soaked through,so pleased i took a second pair
Viniger hill rocked as always I led the pack through but had Sarge hot on my tail, lost him on the straights but dam he is quick on those twisties Had him pass me at one stage of the day round the outside, nearly laid flat and he even managed a wave Way, to go sarge :niceone:
Thanks all for an awesome day, looking forward to dogs Gisbourne trip now

Nice shots James and yod.
I note that it was only 312 from Pio Pio to home,so about 230ks to Tauramanui.
Hmmm- Pahongina Valley, Apiti, Kimbolton, Mangaweka, Taihapi, Waiouru, National Park, Tauramanui, Wangamomina, Stratford, then home run could be on the cards in the near future.

Good to see all safe and sound.
Who says you're a bunch of hoons lol.
Was having a beer sat arvo after you all left,a lady from the garage was saying to the bar guy about the group of bikes which migrated to Sth Rd,was annoyed she couldn't get a look at them as was stuck in the office, said the group looked like having fun in a totally uncoordinated way(must mean parking ways)next time will get them to make forcourt larger lol.
If you want to do whanga run, idea is to make it a 2 day run, either ride from Taumaranui to whanga or from your way to Stratford to whanga then back home costs $95 pp dinner, bed, brekky, and good storage, sleeps about 26 off hand.
Nice pics too, enjoy your humour and excellent ride brief, allways informative.

Basically not enough regrouping.Yep that's the key right there :niceone:
On all our rides @ every intersection we all regroup & if on the main road for a long distance we regroup constantly, yesterday roughly every 20km's or so as Mike was on his new Ducati which is well done on power compared to everyone else but is also a bit of a nanna :baby:
Looks like fun was had by all & everyone made it home safe n sound, the only fatality being a rear foot peg, not bad lol :niceone:

P.S. Thanks ynot slow
Well I just picked my arse off the couch. Damn crook this morning. I am not sure if it was the riding in the rain yesterday or the alcomohole that was consumed when I got back here. Things got a little out of hand.
In any case it was entertaining having Cinnamon on the back of the bike. It is only the second time she has been on the back of the bike and the first time was about 20km so I wasnt really sure how she would go. She really enjoyed herself on the back waving to cars and enjoying the ride which is great. neither of us enjoyed that "shower" of rain which was a bit of a shame that we hit it and we made it down to waioru before she started mentioning that her legs were getting sore. (One day I will get old and buy an old mans bike for comfort). In true biker-to-be fashion she carried on without complaint.
What ride breif? :devil2:
Ride brief was to get up to Hawera with no stops (stopped in feilding, halcombe, turakina, and wanganui. Meet guys in Hawera which we did then carry on to Waitara. The old switcher round the block hide the RF trick from Yod got a little confusing. There goes 20 mins waiting for someone to catch up who is already in front of you. :argh:
So a regoup in Inglewood (which was actually needed to give Yod a bollocking) and then off to waitara. Regroup at SH3 was needed as we were going into waitara and I was the only one who had any idea where we were going and I wasnt real sure of that either. GPS MAP came in handy for once. So Pick up girl and then into main street in Waitara for another regroup. Then out north through messenger and an attempted regroup at top of messenger but I had just got past 3 very slow cars and I wasn't stopping to let them get in front again. So regroup at awakino. Then on to pio pio for lunch.
Up to 8 mile and a regroup there then down to Tamuranui and regroup there. Yod tried the "hide the RF the long way round" again at the oakune turnoff so another regroup, then regroup in oakune, waioru, top of vinegar hill (damn girl. Dont really want to pick on you too much but if you can't see a Ginger ZZ Top lookalike waving his hands on the side of the road there is something wrong)
Regroup at bottom of vinegar hill and then home.
So I dont think the regrouping is the problem. Mainly having a general idea where you are going might help and a look at a road sign every now and then.
I was getting a little nervous about making the 12 oclock deadline to Waitara considering we left at 8 (8.04 actually even though I said I was leaving at 8) and it takes me a little under 3 hours to make the trip in a car. We scraped in at just under 4 hours! Anyhow, no harm done and we did make it so that is fine but may explain some of the statistics that came out of the ride.
From my GPS.
distance 684km
moving time 6 hours 54 mins
avg speed while moving 98.9km/hr
time stopped 4 hours 8 mins
avg speed overall 61.8km/hr
attached map of where we actually went.

I thought you would get into Waitara way before 12,mind you when you all left at about 10.45 thought it'll be tight.Get used to thinking Hawera to Inglewood 35 mins,Inglewood to Waitara 20 mins. Also Palmy to Hawera easy 1 3/4 hours so thought maybe 2 3/4 hours-3 hrs, allow say 20 mins break along,no probs.Mind you with the group with you just fuelling up could take a while.Thought after you left hope you don't miss Waitara turn off, which is easy to do if not reading the signs, and travelling quickish.Good to see the weather was correct, bugger, thought the showers might stay away, must get my arse over to Awakino etc, good road in the car, bike would be fun.Still seemed organised well enough from my view,I turned off by the racecourse to go home, went round a back street home and nearly met a cop on wrong side of the street, almost kicked his door, just as well wasn't speeding on my part(35km)or so,but fark you don't expect to see a cop car driving usa style as you go around a "T" intersection.

Only minor excitement when I didn't spot 86 indicating until the last minute, nearly got a little closer to him than required when on a separate bike, he was oblivious, luckily. Yod meanwhile had shot straight past as he was looking somewhere else too. Nice to know I am not the only one. Bit like the getting lost thing on saturday too, Yod was just keeping me company:yes:
Thanks guys, you are great and that little ride made the prospect of the following day so much more fun
Saturday was a great way to start my KB riding , it was so good to see many of the familiar faces that I had missed during my Auz excursion:grouphug: Good too to put faces to KBers I had not met before and even to meet some I had not encountered online either. We were a really mixed bag of bikes and people and that made for a fun and interesting day.
Nice that some things don't change e.g. cowboyz bitching at Honda's  and numerous fag stops. This time I was giving you all a good reason to stop, aren't I obliging. Good to see Cowboyz not shivering too. Maybe 86 needs yellow:oops: gold, thermals for under his leathers:lol:
I must say a special thank you to Bones and Garry H for keeping me company at the tail end for most of the ride and for giving me some nice lines to follow through the bends. It gave me the confidence to tackle the corners with a bit more speed as I warmed up and I did feel the flow begin on occasions. The rain slowed me down probably more than necessary but I never felt that I was an inconvenience to any of you, much appreciated.
Also Garry H is a star :niceone:for coming after me as I happily headed for Palmie, oblivious to missing the vinegar hill turn. We elected to turn around, pretty sure that any sensible bods would have gone on home but thought we should check.Vinegar hill in the dark at the end of a long day was interesting and again I enjoyed following Garry through the bends, thanks mate you are a joy to follow.
All would have been peachy if I hadn't decided to take a little nap with the hornet when stationary as a car crossed the single track bridge. Nearly 800k's and I fall off when standing still. I was like a stranded fish trying to extricate my leg from beneath the Hornet but the car driver avoided me and Garry hopped off quickly to my rescue.
Luckily I cushioned the topple so the damage to the hornet was minimal and we were soon on our way and arrived uneventfully at 86's. The earplugs came in handy because I couldn't hear what was being said until I got my helmet off but both guys were very supportive and avoided calling me a daft tart (which I deserved).
It was a minor niggle at the end of a great day and Ivan at ANZA took it all well on sunday morning when I dropped the bike back.
Thanks all for a memorable day. Can't wait to get the Honda and get some extra k's under the belt asap

All in alla greta trip :2thumbsup

For sure, that's why I don't have a clue where anywhere is. Too busy enjoying the buzz of being on the back of the Daytona  coupled with enjoying the scenery. Have been paying a bit more attention the last few rides so I do actually know where Ashurst, bunnythorpe, fielding and vinegar hill are now!!!

ah, here he is...
yeah thanks for sorting that out and feilding doesn't matter anyway, it's only a speck compared to the bustling metropolis that is Ashhurst
consider yourself suitably disciplined, sarah!:spanking:

Did you know last time :innocent::shutup:
You could come to Auckland for a short trip to warm up for Gisborne and practice not stopping every 10m would be good :dodge:
I know I am on dangerous territory now and could be riding home alone on the next trip as you fly off into the distance and do a sneaky turn onto a well signposted road and lose me:yes:
