Need to go pick up my girl and feel like a decent ride. Time frame means a fairly direct route there but we pretty much did this trip in May and fun was had by all. Speeds will be set by the group on the day but expect to be closer to 120km.hr cruising than 100 or 200.

Leave at about 830am and home when we finish riding.

Nice little map.

speaking of which - spotted a group waiting for the ferry in wgtn with us last sunday, obviously a bunch of highly intelligent, classy individuals; there was an RF and a ZX9R in there (plus some other european 'things')

It's tempting for sure as Wanga's is as far over west i've been, doing a two day ride with a mate up the east cost very soon so if they don't clash i'll probably be keen to see more of that side of the country.

Hiya all, I am back at last

Had a short and very sweet blast :ride: on a very clean and shiny daytona shortly after I got back to PN, that put a huge smile on my face.

Ali mentioned the ride, I think we are both up for it. Honda probably not unloaded until the following week unfortunately

Either I will be a lazy scenic pillion or may bring a GSXR (he is keeping firm grip on Daytona keys now!!) we are busy planning as many rides as possible:yes::innocent:

Really glad you are keeping warm now will have to get a pic of the togs
:2thumbsup:

Did invest in a bottle or two in duty free and will look forward when we can all catch up again

looks like an awesome ride... keep me advised, could meet up and join in the fun from here and do the loop, drop ya off safe at home and return...

Timings??? Aiming to be at the Naki at....??

Boob.. should turn it into a convoy and get the regulars out and about... and meet the faces!!

About time the Naki had another ride in/around the area....

YAY. Welcome back.

I thought you were suggesting that 86 lent you his bike for a bit until I saw the clean and shiny bit. Whos Daytona you ride?

Would be a good ride to get out on. This one will be a little tamer than the last one. Especially after I pick the girl up.

No pic allowed, but you can take my word for it. They are very comfy.

all good. All relevant (and mostly irrelevant) info will be posted here..
Timings??? Aiming to be at the Naki at....??
I have to be in waitara before 1230 but after that it will be open to whatever happens on the day.
Boob.. should turn it into a convoy and get the regulars out and about... and meet the faces!!
sounds good. Last May we accidently run into the naki crew on Mt messenger. They stopped in awakino for lunch and we carried on.

Ok. rough (and if you know me you know what rough means) guidelines for the plan of the day.

0815 meet at ashhurst mobil station
0830 leave ashhurst mobil station
1030 hawera fuel and coffee
1100 head to waitara
1130 pick girl up in waitara
1135 meet at caltex in middle of waitara/coffee smoke
1200 head to awakino
dont care about timing from here........

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but there is an awesome lookout on the road between Tauramanui and Turangi (SH41?) at the top of the Waituhi saddle. Just after the gates used to close the top of the road when it snows, on the left (travelling to turangi) there is a sealed access to a lookout tower. On a fine day, you see all the from Taupo to Oakune - all of the lake and the mountains. Fantastic views. Makes a good stop after the twisties on the way up.

Cheers,

Will need to re-evaluate on friday evening i guess, might sound a bit soft but I don't fancy getting a wet backside when i'm the best part of 400 clicks from home as I don't as yet have any cordura pants as yet. Just getting over a sodding cold as it is. Maybe Al can give us a better overview closer to the ride coz his forcasts seem to be fairly onto it.

got a new set of Pilot Road 2s going on the RF on Friday ($540 fitted) so if this is a goer ill at least have enough rubber for it - i think my front would make it but i doubt the rear has 800 km left in it so i thought probably better to be safe, etc....

seems alright at the moment according to metservice...

North Island, showers over the northern half of the Island, mostly fine elsewhere, with cloud increasing in the southwest. South Island, rain or drizzle spreading up the west coast. Cloud increasing in the east, and rain spreading into the south later.

should be in and out of taramaki before getting wet. I very not keen on getting wet so it better not rain.

Hiya All
Talking of shops and rides. Decided to stop being a lazy ass  and get some practice in before the ride back from Auckland :2thumbsup: so have arranged to hire a bike for saturday :ride:

Picking it up Friday at about 5pm so if anybody fancies coming for a quick spin with me friday evening that would be fab.

I have bought some maps but would it would be great to meet in palmie on saturday morning and follow somebody out. Don't want to break out of the laziness habit all in one go. It will be too much of a shock!!!

You would/would not be amazed how little idea I have of where everywhere is. Bizarre not driving or riding and moving hemispheres you get all confused :sunny:

I have told I have planed to do this Naki ride and suggested he come along, hope thats ok with everyone, chances are he wont come though. I told him to put off the two dayer until the following weekend. If he does come he's an ok kinda guy.....bit rough round the edges though:lol: rides not too bad, he can keep a decent pace up.
Bones 2 rang me with an expression of interest in doing the Naki ride as well, might give him a call later on this week and see what he says.

More the merrier

Betsy has a twin, I spotted her/him at Phil Turnbulls when I was picking up the RF - this thing has to be the mintest bike I've ever seen, same year, same colour, same everything and it looked like it just came out of the showroom!! whoever owns it is a serious obsessive compulsive when it comes to cleaning - impressive (not that Betsy isnt impressive....)

tyres are partially scrubbed in after a quick jaunt out to Foxton Beach but the roads were pretty straight so I've got chickenstrips the size of state highway one

the daytona was looking very tidy, 86 has put some elbow grease into it this week (in readiness for it's big outing)

quite impressed with sarah's loaner; a 900 hornet, we all had a blat around the beach carpark on it and I was quite impressed, felt more nimble than I expected for a 900 (or maybe thats just cos i ride a fat-arsed RF ). Sarah seemed to be getting the hang of it nicely too - should be a nice comfy beast for tomorrow

What a good read

Just got home after a good day and night. Took Sarah to pick up the Hornet - very nice  While I was there and seeing as I've already desecrated my bike with a pack rack, I got myself a nice little ten litre 'sports' pack to go with my 'sports' rack. I really don't think Daytona's and pack racks go well together, but it's practical and this little pack is really handy! No more things in pockets digging into me now.

Jonno arrived and speaking of Betsy's twin, yep, I thought Chanceyy had arrived first and I was thinking WOW Barry's done an amazing job on her. So a quick look around for Sandra when a bloke jumps on Betsy 2 and rides off. This bike is MINT, still the good old smoke trail tho!

Anyway, a quick spin out to Foxton beach and back. A coffee and a quick ride on the Hornet. Very nice, love the upright position and being able to relax at the lights. Very quick with a lot of 4 cylinder punch. And very directionally stable once turning, lot's of counter steering required. I liked it.

Better get to bed, see ya'll real soon  :zzzz:

Will do Sarge! Weather's looking good, bit dark through the gorge at the mo, but where we're going not too bad at all! So far, the only mention of rain is in the Waikato - sweet. Bear in mind though that these are only valid till 2.00 pm. There's a fair bit of cloud around which may mean rain later on.

Me and Lis (came on a ride last year on a KR1 2 Stroke and Green GPX) would be keen, but we have to pick up her new ZXR400 H2 (charging the battery after she left the park lights on all day) from AFC first at 9am. I'm guessing you'll all be blazing off into the sun and rain by then.
027 45 00 199 if you either haven't or if we can catch up on the way.

Oh and we are both on 400's now, the ZXR and a CBR 400 RR and DAMN they just sound soooo much better.

Was at Waitara at the appointed time, but when nobody arrived I wasn't concerned because the published timetable required an average speed of 160kph from Hawera to Waitara which seemed just a little optimistic.

Almost bang on noon the crew arrived. Some refuelling and away we went to PioPio for lunch. Mostly nice enough weather. Got to put some faces with KB names.

Thanks for the ride and for the company, hope you all made it home dry :-)

Sorry but can't leave that early so - disappointed, was looking forward to that ride!Yeah soz bout that Kev, the weather was looking shithaus for the afternoon & one of our guys wasn't keen to trek the Whanga road in the wet so the 5 of us gapped it to Te Kuiti for lunch. We passed all you guys & of course I waved out to all I could (was bloody heaps of ya lol). Met Patrick for the first time, top bloke. Poor ol Mike just bought another bike this week & took it for its first real spin but his gearbox jammed in 5th (6 speed) so we gave him a push start @ the Awakino pub & let him go for a bit then slowly caught him up & he led the pack back to Waitara then I 2up'd him to NP to pick up his ute. Oh well that's what you get when you buy an old school Ducati

So how was your guys ride? Did the weather hold out? We hit a few patches of rain but mostly pretty light and only lasted a minute or two then dry again, very lucky :innocent:

Catch you all next time hopefully :grouphug:

Another f$#%ing good run. Yes it rained. At least it was mainly on the way home. The CX performed once again like a fine peice of 29yo slant eyed engineering should. I even beleive I got it airbourne over the raised one lane bridge on the Viniger Hill.

Nice selection of bikes all round. It was nice to meet up with some new faces.
Hope you all made it home safely. Looking fwd to the next one.
