I was at Westfield Albany ,the day before opening last month. There was no parking anywhere ,so had to park way down the road.Saw what I thought was a park, got closer and a little rg150 was in there earlier.I had to go back to my work truck a couple of hours later and walked past where this bike was legally parked and there was sumcun' moving it onto the footpath so he could take the park.He had a stupid grin on his face .I looked at him and said"If that was my bike I'd fucking smack ya."Wiped the grin off his face, but this opens some issues for me.I work for a high profile company that would not like me saying this kind of thing to the Public.Does anyone out think that moving bikes in carparks is acceptable?Do I need Anger Management?

I work in Albany and parking is now a nightmare! Obviously they can't design shit in Auckland without screwing up the car parking and not providing anywhere near enough parks.
I would have told the guy to put it back and likley threatened to call or called the cops.... he has no right to touch it, let alone move it and is unlawfully interfering with the bike. No different to finding someone sitting in your convertible and playing with the knobs. No one should touch another persons bike without permission. :spanking:

As a biker I did what I could do and warned this cunt.I had no time to do anything else.I didn't care about this bike and I think I could not have not cared less about it.But, by simply being a member of a forum, like this,I feel I have much greater social responsibilty towards other bikers.

I've moved scooters over (very carefully) at uni, when they hadnt been thoughtful enough to know that other people want to park in the bike park too. Other than that I think you were well within your rights to say what you said.
It's not like you move someones car because it doesnt take up the whole carpark, and if the mall isn't providing a place for motorcycles to park where they aren't parked 'illegally' and aren't taking up more space than they need to then the guys problem is with the Mall Management, not the RG150 that is parked 100% legally.

I would suggest that Toaster is quite correct. IANAL but, if my (old) memory is correct, technically the person could be charged with interfering with a motor vehicle. If convicted, it cost lots, in both money and other ways.
Try getting in to some countries with a conviction on your record :(
PS: If I'd caught anyone attempting to move the 'Wing, it would be deck em first, then ask what the f**k are you up to.

Funny how often scooters do that. Drives me nuts in the carpark at work. bikers seem to try to take the minimum space so more bikes can fit in yet the scooters space themselves out so you could spin them around.

Nice work :Punk:
I agree with the calling the cops sentiment others have expressed but really what are they going to do. "Oh yes sir I'll dispatch a car right away.. We're attending burglaries in less than a week so we've got some spare time for you today..." Not having a go at the police - they've got more important shit to deal with frankly (like writing speeding tickets ;)).
If it was me I'd write the dude's rego down with my cell number and stick it on the bike in case they damaged it in any way.

We checked out Albania Wetfield on Sunday - what a fucking crappy joke the parking is! One skinny driveway in/out, the lanes in the parking lot are all too narrow, the few 'covered' walkways are useless because the covers are too high and angled to assist the rain to blow in...
They had to have some guys directing parking because it's so difficult. Whoever designed the layout is a retard. It would've been better (and more efficient use of land) to have had a multi-tiered parking building under the mall (or adjacent to it). The mall has got some flak for being too much oriented to cars rather than being pedestrian-friendly, but IMHO it's not friendly fullstop.

I know the tow company that is working around Albany (I work in the office opp. Westfield). They have a dedicated car patrolling and clamping for about 4 hours a day at the moment - not only at Westfield but also in most of the carparks around it (pack+slave, placemakers, farmers, etc etc) because the tennants are annoyed with their parks being filled with staff from Westfield (who are not allowed to park in there - grrrr).
What would have been terrible is that the bike once moved onto the pavement from being leagally parked then got towed for no fault of the owner.
Guess it shows why we should use locks huh? (says me with no lock).

Unlawful tampering with a vehicle, 'apprehend' vigourously, and call the constabulary. If it was my bike, or a bike I knew, take the photo in progress, apprehend vigourously, call for backup/coppers.
'No officer, I don't think it was unreasonable, do you know how many bikes have been stolen in the last month or so? and I finally caught one of the bastards red-handed.'
Alternately, wait until he has finished moving it, while taking photo's, then slap the crap out of him, and make him put it back.
Take more photo's of his car and tell him it will be circulated to a lot of large angry bikers who would take exception to this kind of behaviour.

Hmmmm.
I just had the misfortune to visit the aforementioned site again. Woonchaknowit - I spot a handy park near the door, and there's a scooter in it.
Right smack in the middle of the park.:bash:
I was SOOOOOO tempted to move it a bit, and prolly would've, were it not for the previous comments. (In fact, were it not for the comments about aggressive towies, I would've done my usual thing and parked on the footpath, or ina "No Farking Parking" area.)
It was actually quite a mission to share the park with this non-sharing, antisocial piece of ChineseCrap without having my bike in such a position as to be potentially blocking its egress or risk damage to my own fine(ly scratched and muntered) machine.
Hmmmm.... what I shouldadone was ligt the scooter around so it was hard against the front of the park, then (no doubt) someone else woulda come along and parked behind it.
A fitting outcome for all.

As a newbie to all this - where should you park in a normal carpark (i.e. not motobike zones?
Im guessing if you dont put the bike right in the middle some twat in a car will pull in going too fast not seeing your bike and run into it knocking it over.
What do you guys do?

And as for the guy who you caught moving the bike - here is a plan ...
Whilst hes moving the bike. Open his car door and grab his keys. Smile nicely as you drop them down the nearest drainpipe.
Seems fair - he moved the bike a few feet (across), you moved his keys a few feet (down):2thumbsup
Not sure what you can be charged with (Ive done it twice when I was younger) - but it sure does wind them up.:girlfight:

have to agree took the family out there last weekend the dam lane are way to narrow and parking spaces are not deep enough i know the ss-v ve is a large car but hell i had to drive with the wheels over the cinter line and had to keep stopin to let cars through cause there wasnt enough room to fit 2 cars past at same time what a cock up with all that space.
and hell no you dont touch some elses bike the mall should have it own security you could have call to deal with it who would have in turn called the cops would have got him bared from comin back to the mall for a while as well.

You're correct - park the bike so it's right in the middle, and back far enough that it can be seen. But a scooter is somewhat different (in my head, at least). Most of them are only glorified bicycles, so it's a waste to take a whole space. :Pokey:

There is definately something in the scooter riders logic about parking. WHY do they seem oblivious to the common sense approach to parking a scooter with other bikes in such a manner as to not block the egress of other bikes?
Every other bike in the place parking north-south, so Mr :scooter: bimbles up and parks east-west.
I am considering a funding request for acadedmic research on this phenomenon!

Same/same as all the other things most scootersits do. Some scooterists are almost honorary bikers, and are really in to the whole two-wheels brotherhood mumbo. However (BUT!) for some/most a scooter is merely a convenient and cheap means of transport, and they treat it like a glorified bicycle. They don't notice other scooterists/bikers on the road, and therefore no special consideration is given WRT parking or anything else.:blank:

What do you guys do?
I park my bike at the back of a park and to the left or right side of the park.
That way the bike can be seen by cars driving in and around the car park, and if another bike comes along they can have the front of the park on the side that Im not in.
Only problem for them is if I leave and their bike is still there.
I would consider moving their bike but I wouldnt due to the fact that if I saw anyone moving my bike for what ever reason they certainly would get an ear full and a whole heap of fucken touch my bike again I'll kill you (even if its a good reason I wouldnt be to happy about someone moving my bike).

 Yeah I think common sense and forethought are not prerequitisites for some town planners and developers... its all about profit.
Once the full Albany city is developed, they will need at least two multi-level carparks to handle all the office workers cars, let alone the shoppers who can't find a park.
The current solution is to just clamp everyone or tow them away. :bash:

What do you guys do?
if i absolutly HAVE to park in town [where the bike parks are really just car parks with an MC painted in the middle] i park nose out, as far forwards as possible and close to the kerb [which ever side that may happen to be on... sitting on the bike, its the left usually] so theres room for scooters to slip in behind me, and also room for someone to park alongside. usually i park a block over from town, where theres a long bike park thats almost never used. does mean a short walk and leaving the bike out of view for a bit, but its easier than fucking around in the middle of town turning around and what not.
