I had an accident this morning (7.30am)on my way to work.
Someone ran a red, turned across in front of me.
I hit his front guard, and went for a wee flying lesson.
The cops said I hit his windscreen with my head.
I only remember me head hitting the tarmac, then thinking, this is gona hurt.

Luckily I'm home with very sore legs and a dislocated finger. (which I put back in waiting for the ambo.LOL.)

I put my survival down to my low speed at intersections and falling off the pocketbikes we race. I have learnt to relax when I come off.

Be careful out there guys and girls.

Oh crap! What is it about these dudes who run red lights? I always enjoyed my flying lessons ... but they were all in aircraft.

The bod is going to hurt tomorrow and for the next 4 days at least ... how bad is da bike? {he says, having a soft spot for CBR600's}

Hi Grub,

Well put it this way, it's f&%$#d.
Bits of bike all over the intersection.

The front end is gone and possibly bent the frame.:weep:

Hey there.
Sorry to hear about your accident. Those bloody people who run red lights need a SWIFT KICK UP THE ASS.
Which intersection did it happen and was is at another black spot?
I hope you have a speedy recovery and are back out riding soon.
My fingers are broken and i haven't been able to ride for weeks so i can sort of sympathize with you.
All the best

Well put it this way, it's f&%$#d.

Grrrr ... that's horrid. How pissed off were the cops at the guy(?). I bet it was pathetic watching him trying to explain himself.

The worst part is that you'll probably have to wait weeks and weeks for the insurance coy to make up their mind and to pay you out so you can replace her.

Accident was in Henderson on corner of Edsel St, Edmonton Rd lights.

Well I got racing in two weeks, so I WILL BE BETTER!

The power of positive thinking and heaps of painkillers. LOL

yeah the cops were going to arrest him, except he was in total shock. He has been summond to appear at a later time. He was in his mid 30's.

He has admitted full responsibility. There were heaps of witnesses.

If he had of been an arse about it, they were going to throw the book at him.

I give full credit to the St John's, Police and Waitakere Hosp. They were fantastic and on the spot real fast.

Bummer, heal up fast and sort the insurance payout ASAP.

In the meanwhile ponder how lucky you are not getting T boned!

And for some amusement have a read of this thread here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=50308).

And another biker gets nailed by a red light runner. They just don't think when they run the red. When are the Police and Courts going to sort these people out. They're always sorry when they have an accident......

Hope you get better soon.

Swoop - Lets not be too drastic here.

Perhaps give them just a warning shot in the head?

But if they DO have their heads already up their arse, then Bandit Girls suggestion is also a good one.

A warning shot in the head is fine.

Then a $150 infringement notice and 20 demerits... and having to pay for the tow truck to take the cage + body to the crusher.

Fuckin' politicians aren't going to do anything about this issue though.:oi-grr:

Very glad you are OK. There are more Honda's but only one of you.

What I don't "get" about these red-light-runner threads (never had it happen to me)... are these people who follow traffic through the lights and keep going when it goes oranage then red, or are these people who just drive up to a light that's already red and don't bother to stop?

I can't understand how they do what they do.

Crikey, no good to hear something like that - but glad to hear you are with us and able to post about it. I know what you mean about red light runners, often where I am - I can see streams of cars behind in my mirrors when the light has obviously turned red (considering I only made it across when it just turned amber/orange!)

Well, hope you heal up quickly and have the admin come through quickly.

Just been having a rest, but yeah that would be lovely.

Thank you to everyone for posting your support.
Yes a gun firing a warning shot through the head is a good idea.
Kiwibike brokers are doing all the work for me on the insurance side.
They are really great. I dont have to worry.

I got to get better soon as buckets are in 2 weeks and I"M GOING TO BE THERE.

far be it from me to suggest anything sensible, but did you get a concussion when you played headbanger on his windscreen? you *may* want to consider avoiding situations where you could hit your head again for 6 weeks or so.......cumulative concussions aren't fun.

bummer to hear about the red light runner... one that didn't get away with it.

I'm so over riding a bike around town, there are just too many tossers who think they are above the road rules, I dont trust any of them.
Much safer on the track...hope you are back on both bikes very soon.
Ya sound like you are on the way to improvement, roll on the akers bucket meet ;)

Sorry to hear about the bike and your injuries. Hope the bike is replaced and you heal up well. I do not know what it is with people running red lights these days. I was sitting in my car at a red light, listening to the music, when a car at speed ran straight through the red light that I was stopped for. Two cars had to take evasive actions and very narrowly missed this turkey. Someone blasted their horn also and the said turkey just stuck his/her hand out the window and gave the finger. As most got the number plate and there was plenty of witnesses, hopefully this turkey will not be on the road for much longer and will be somewhat lighter in the wallet area. More to the point, hopefully the said turkey will learn from the consequenses and never repeat the stupidity that was displayed.

Granma that's some serious shit!

I remember reading some thread about tips on motorcycling, there was one that told you to pause for a sec and check both sides of the road before you take off from the lights to check for red light runners. Ever since then I have beeen taking it into my normal riding practice, even though how much I love blasting off at light speed when the lights turn green.

Hope you heal well and crikey, you nearly a Granma aren't you?

(I thought your login name was some what a joke until I checked your profile)

Never - that would involve work. As long as they're not speeding when they run the red they must be safe. Don't you watch the TV road revenue... ummm I mean 'safety' ads? :angry2:

They are either follow through (mostly) or oblivious to the signal.

An afternoon at nearly any major intersection with a camera would give enough footage for a 10 part documentary.

No problem there, I wasnt knocked out and didnt even go into shock. I did put a big dent in the windscreen which was a 1cm from the pillar. Dont remember hitting anything that hard until I hit the road, head first.

I have too much bruising on my legs to ride this next weekend.
The rest of my body has healed quickly.
So I guess I am on scoring duty, or flag marshalling.
Bugger tho.

Yes I am a granma of two.
Both kids just love the bikes. My 3yr old grandson was devastated when he saw my crashed bike. The look on his face said it all.

As I approached the intersection I looked both ways and then across the intersection as well. The cars were all stopped at lights. There were no cars in front or behind me, at all, for miles. The road is extremely bumpy, (through the intersection), and at slow speed (30-40km) will shift the bike around. I was looking down at the road( a split second) to see if I needed to shift left or stay right and then a dark coloured bonnet was in front of my front wheel.
Then I heard the bang and thought, f^%k...my bike. Then I was flyin.

good... nice to see some actual justice for once.
I wonder if it will act as a deterrent as well or if he (it was wasn't it?) will just despise motorcyclists from now on?

Rasika, you know me, if I can ride, I will. But I dont want to make my injuries worse. We have a two hour endurance race in Nov, which I need to be real fit for.

I dont think he despises bike riders.
He has been in contact, and continually apologises, which is lucky for me I guess. I dont think he will be too popular with his best mate tho. His mate rides a CBR1000.
I know a lot of accidents dont even get the guy who did it.
He knows he screwed up big time and will take the punishment dished out.

I consider myself very very lucky.

yep I know the feeling... 1 hour endurance race this weekend, but all fit and healthy after my last wee off at the track (no cars involved!) about 5 weeks ago.
