View Full Version : Runeing around Auckland

One of the nicest sounding motorcycles I have ever thrown a leg over. Aural honey.

By afternoon I was throwing it around and riding it quite rapidly. It goes - it reallllly goes. Like stepping out slightly on the freeway on ramp type goes. No dramas either - it handles and goes like a high performance vehicle. While sounding like an AMG Benz.

Looks will no doubt polarise opinion. Fine motorcycle regardless.

Cheers - can do - but I get the opportunity to have my work published all the time - I'd rather leave the space on the calendar for the quite deserving work that doesn't get the same opportunities IYKWIM.

The Runes a good idea gone bad and a glowing example of marketing over design. Make it big and add chrome and people will buy it... Bleugh...

There is nothing wrong with the design. It functions and goes very well.
You might not like the aesthetics, but it's a styling exercise.
If money was no issue - I'd sure buy one. It goes beautifully and is extremely comfortable and usable for someone 195cm and 115kg. Excellent in fact.

Nah. And they tell me they burn out well too.
But I'm not tight enough with Honda to pull those sort of capers.

This unit is plated '05, but they are only being released here now.
Previous units in NZ were privately imported.

Their maketing dept is preparing the press pack - RRP TBA. Small 40s I'm guessing.

I would have called them 'Girder forks' - but happy to stand corrected.

I read 'somewhere' that there is a point of diminishing return for telescopic forks and weight. (Author mustn't have looked at a jumbo jet).

Whatever - I like the way the Rune front works - normal service.

A girder? Looks like a bottom link type thungy so more a backwards springer than a girder? Hope it works for em because not having a tele front has often been the kiss of death for other bikes..

Argh yer be gettin soft - tis a rich mans play yacht to be sure. No self respecting bucaneer worthy of his pegleg would raise the skull n crossbones over that glitter box without a battering with a cutlass (or a half cut lass if yer likes em a bit more lively) and a quick squirt with matt black paint..

Mind you - I'll grant ye that she could sport a fair number of goodly sized cannon for a mighty broadside...

I remember reading that Honda USA made it as a styling exercise and lost money on every Rune they made.
More like a "we can make whatever we want" type machine.

I think it looks great.

Yup! Reminds me of following Classic_Z on his Z1300! He looks like a toy on it! Still, if one is the prerequisite height and weight, 'twould be a breeze!

Apparently, Honda can't sell them Stateside so looks like they're trying everywhere to shift them, hence the '05 models here now.

I reckon they're okay, and good on Honda for having the guts to produce them from a show exercise. Shame they didn't sell as expected, though.

Ah ok. I remember seeing one in the states brand new a little before I got my licence at 18, I'm 24 now. (shit, time does fly...)

AS for the forks, I reckon inverted springer suits them best except for no exposed springs.

But 'probably' not before a nice Harley. And I'd want to ride a Rocket again before deciding. Been a year. The extra 10K (assumed still haven't checked rrp) in bling on a rocket.....or a Fat Boy.....

Honda sometimes seem to be plodding along in there own little world, and just when people think they're getting a bit staid, they throw up a 'F U' to the rest of the world, and then go back to doing their own thing again.

No. not overly loud. Deep and AMG V8 mercedes-ish / worked CLubsport sound.

Rode it round in a gear lower than it needed just to listen.

I suspect the backwards springer configuration has been used as it gives the impression of a much more raked out front end than it actually has. If you look carefully the headstock is at a steeper angle than the "forks" and inline with the front axle.

It's certainly a head-turner, however I'm not sure how attractive I think it is. It would fun to have one in the garage nevertheless.
