A new Yamaha trenching tool - guaranteed to test the anal sphincter control of an inexperienced adventure rider...
Of course it needed some interesting locations to be run in over...

Yay, go the 21 inch.
I'll bet that bike is a world apart from the XT660 with its small fat wheels.

Nice! So are ya shopping for a big tank & comfy seat for it? Or is it just to tide you over until the new Tenere is on sale?

Very nice.:niceone: Did the Waikato Yam boys see you right? And what are you doing hooning around my stomping ground, and not popping in for a coffee:baby:
How long are you in Hamilhole for?

it is vastly easier on loose surfaces, even when the front lets go its progressive whereas the 660 was like a light switch and its light enough so that I can put a foot down to avert disaster and not feel like someone has sledgehammered my leg...

Yamaha make a 15.5l tank which I am waiting for a price on. I did the Motu with a 5 litre petrol container in my backpack (we went there and back so about 160 km) - not very comfortable. As for the seat - I need to do something as its like sitting on the edge of a breadboard - just not yet sure what - although I only notice it at constant speed on asphalt.
You'd feel right at home on it Clint as it sounds and idles like a traction engine - very ktm 640 ish...
You rode straight past us at about 5pm on Monday between Rotoiti and Rotorua as we traveled to Opotiki. I waved and you ignored me - I will forgive you eventually...

Yes the Waikato Yam boys were great to deal with - I would happily deal with them again. While waiting for the bike to be fixed they gave us $60 and a loaner 07 2007 wr 250 to go to a local mx track for a blast so my son Glen wouldn't get too bored. The service guys were great - unfortunately the battery kept going flat so I spent quite a lot of time dealing with them - turned out some dork in Aussie had put a 60w headlight bulb in instead of a 30w and it was too much for the charging system - so obvious that no one thought to check.. The quality of the aussie installed road kit is total crap and I will redo it all soon - whoever installed it clearly didn't give a shit.
I would have called you for a coffee/ride but had no internet access so couldn't pm you for cellphone number... next time for sure.
cheers

I was ignoring you on purpose :oi-grr: fancy bloody riding right past my place & not arranging to stop in for a coffee/beer!:nono: :D Actually I don't even remember seeing ya, musta been too focused on the beer waiting for me in Rotovegas.

Good one :niceone:
Nice bike, maybe its time to have a go at the 42nd Traverse, I dont think it would suit the bigger bikes, but should be ok for the trail orientated ones :msn-wink:
I am not sure when the track opens, and I am not sure what condition it is in?

So did you have to stretch it a bit to keep up with the DT230?

I would certainly be a starter for that...

Not at all - I couldn't even keep my young shit of a son in sight - except when he parked in a ditch...
On the last quarter of the ride I could see glimpses of his dust cloud as he became tired and as I started to get the hang of the 450.
The dt230 is a freak - a lousy trail bike, a mediocre road bike and an absolute cannon on gravel/dirt roads. My son can empty the 11 litre tank in about 130km's so I think he rides it pretty hard.

No I had to trade the 660 in to be able to afford the 450 - I'm just going to have to trailer the 450 to adventure rides as the 450 is a pretty lousy road bike (unless the road is really twisty - in which case its a blast even on knobblies)
cheers

The DT230 sure is a fun bike,punches well above it's weight,even bikes 3 times it's size can't pull a gap in the tight stuff.Hard to believe it's only 225cc.
However,a word of caution - mine is in pieces all over my bench.I pulled it down to replace the bearings, caused by a faulty left hand main seal, and found 6th gear in a bad way. It's been overheated, lost it's hardening and worn the teeth badly.I ride it pretty hard, but if I doubt caused this,or the previous owner - someone has ridden this bike hard in 6th gear...and never changed the oil.

Hi
Thanks for the advice/info
My sons dt has only done 2800km and is getting its gearbox oil changed every 1000km so hopefully we will avoid any major problems for the next year or two - and it spends very little time in 6th - too busy getting its neck wrung in 2nd/3rd on tight winding roads....
cheers
