I only seem to post on KB now when I change bikes or helmets...which seems to be frequent enough.

I spotted these truckin-towards-trendy skid lids in a Performance Bike magazine recently and just had to have one. No ideal if they really work or are comfortable, well made or whatever. But spontaneous risky bike spends seem to work out OK for me...so far.

It has my must have accessory - internal sun visor. Also the chin section has a quick release to become an open face..not sure when I will try open face? But now I have an excuse to find a reason.

I'm getting the Italian flag one which will match my Starwars Stormtroopers uniform and matching g-string.

Airoh make some shit hot looking off road and dual purpose helmets.

Well it arrived today. It looks great and is super light. I weighed it and my Caberg on the kitchen scales. Caberg, which I consider average weight, was 345g and the new Airoh was 245g.
I'm not sure if the wafer thin and light thing is good or bad. It's so light it felt like I had no helmet on at all when I first took off. It's outer dimension size is visibly smaller next to my other helmets which makes me think the thickness must be a lot less than normal.

The visor makes no wind noise itself which was a pleasant surprise but the helmet still seemed louder than normal, not from wind noise or buffeting, but just general sounds getting through the wafer thin shell I think? It's not bad, just took me by surprise to hear sounds normally muffled like tyres on the road, engine hum, exhaust note was noticeably louder.
The chin piece snaps off/on easily and the chin strap is a top job with multiple clicks/positions as it slides in (male-female quick release jobbie).

The sun shade mechanism works well and the shade is very effective. I did a run up Piecock Hill Rd and back before it got dark.
I haven't figured out how to get it off without hurting though? Must be a knack to it.

Looks like they've out Simpsoned Simpson and added some Cromwell style.

Cool.

how close does the tinted shade thingy sit to your face would a pair of sunnnys fit under it?

Try some lube. ;) :killingme

Good looking lid though, I want to try on one of their dualsport helmets, they look good too.

You expecting extreme global warming and needing to wear two pairs of sun glasses? It has an internal sun visor that acts like a flip up pair of sunnies. What more do you need. The outer clear visor bulges outward so there is heaps of space from face to visor. The inner is obviously closer and would prbably interfere with optical glasses if you wear them- but not by much.

Ha ha. Everythings a race mate! No you go get one. There's always room for more than one person up the hill with good taste! The lid looks really smart in the flesh.
(see my pm)

I have sent mine back to exchange it for a larger size. Their sizing is up the creek. All my other lids have been M but now I have to wait a month or so for a XL to arrive.

Sprints eh? I've just been to the wind farm and never seen the blades going so fast! If it's fine tomorrow might pop over. No point trying flying 1/4s on the beemer to find it's top speed. I checked that last night up and down Kent tce at 228kph. Could only get to 208kph on Courtenay Place, %$#& pedestrians and drunks crossing the road all the time.

Just an update.
Replacement lid arrived today.
1. The Guys at vroom.co.nz are good to deal with. Chch based. That's where I go the lid from.
2. I ended up going 2 sizes up! Airoh are so out of step with normal sizing.
These are really cool looking helmets.
There is a lot of airflow around your cheeks and chin so I reckon this helmet will be retired over winter. But cool for summer.

Rockbuddy, as I mentioned earlier, I would order one or two sizes up on your normal fit.
Yes they are super light and look cool. On the move it's a strange - did I remember to put a helmet on? sort of sensation. The vision to the sides, up and down is absolutely the max where some helmets cut off some peripheral vision.

I can't fit the radar receiver inside the helmet though. There is stuff all 'soft' padding inside the lid so if the fit is tight you will feel the discomfort aka pain

finally after waiting patiently (ordered months ago) my airoh tr1 turned up, well worth the wait. and its everything all the previous posts say about it. this helmet is to date the coolest helmet ive owned. chin guard in when im on my sporty and convert to open face for when i take the cruiser out. and no more changing visors from tinted to clear to tinted to clear, the inbuilt sun visor is just what the doctor ordered.

Got an Airoh S4 (adventure helmet). Seems pretty well made but it doesn't fit my head very well (heads to long and not wide enough). Gets bloody annoying when it is windy cause it shifts my glasses (must wear when driving/riding) around i.e. lifts then off my nose/cant see properly stuff. Only use it round town or when it is raining now days.

Oh also had a really annoying whistle but I found the fluffy half of some sticky back velcro on the inside of the visor near the pivot killed most of that. Wont give another one ago but if it fits then not a bad buy.

Got mine from Vroom as well.

Cheers R

I really like the idea of the S4 and it has a good rep, but I wouldn't want to buy without trying one on > And the nearest agent is in Te Rapa.

I may have to settle for a Grex.

Does the Airoh have D rings or a snap fastener?

The Airoh has a snap fastner but then again so does the Grex RD1. I had a RD1 before the S4 and I recon it is a nicer helmet for general ADV riding for me - visor seals better, peak is better when sunny and in windy conditions and it fits me better.

Thanks, that's interesting. And the Grex is available in Auckland, and about one third the price. Though the snap fastener does put me off.

Good to hear that you are pleased with the TR1. $335 now, atleast vroom are quick to pass on the currency savings, unlike so many other retailers & petrol companies. I paid $375 but still consider that good value for a stunning looking lid, designed and made in Italy (the land of style) and practical.

Mine fits well now and with this hot summer we are having it's kept me much cooler than others I've worn. I really like the look of the Italian flag colours. The paint quality is good too.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I found this forum on a Google search. I was looking for TR1 reviews because i'm planning on buying one soon!

You've got to excuse me, we get all these cool things a bit late in the states. :sweatdrop

So how are you TR1 owners liking the purchase after these few months?

I really like it. The LOOK certainly catches peoples attention. Ideal in summer but too draughty in winter. Super light helmet. Easy to clean.

The only negative I can think of is that you must wear earplugs, which I usually did anyway with other helmets. It's not a wind whistling through the gaps or poor sealing visor issue - visor down seals fine. It's just the lack of soft padding inside over your ears and the wafer thin shell I think.

Yes I definately agree with MD very good helmet always getting people commenting on it, very light and comfortable, realy only a summer helmet though and can be a bit noisy

and the new Airoh was 245g.

Are you sure you don't mean 1245 grams? At 245 grams it would float off your head.

Yeah I must have meant 1,245g vs 1,345 for the cabbage! What was I drinking that night when I posted those weights?

I put my helmets on our not to be trusted kitchen scales today.
- TR1 was 1,480g
-Caberg was 1,600g
-Nitro N800 model was 1,790g

Not really much in it by the numbers, but to pick the TR1 up you would swear it's super light. And what's up with my scales giving heavier readings now? Must be the alignment of the planets again or the weight of winter depression brought on by a wet Saturday.
