NZ Police CommCens Alert 23:00 27-09-2007 Canterbury

Location of incident: Gilberthorpes Rd/ Buchanans Rd Christchurch

Incident Type: Fatal vehicle crash

'At about 11.00pm on Thursday 27 September 2007 - Police attended a Fatal Motor vehicle in Buchanan's Road, on the outskirts of Christchurch.
A 38 year old man died at the scene after the motorcycle he was riding failed to stop at a controlled intersection and collided with a lamp-post. No other vehicle was involved in the incident and the deceased man was the sole operator of the motorcycle.
Police staff, including from the Police Serious Crash Unit, attended and an investigation into the full circumstances has commenced.
Initial indications from witnesses suggest that speed and alcohol were likely to be factors in the collision, though enquiries in that regard are yet to be fully completed.
At this point the deceased identity has been withheld - pending the notification to family members.'
Sergeant Dave Robertson
Southern Patrol Group
Christchurch

RIP whoever you are, thoughts to your family etc.

And then there is all the mud being left from the construction trucks from the subdivision up the road.

Plus a bit of rainfall

Sad :(

Why do people need to judge before the facts come out? We've gone through this fairly recently on KB where someone made an assumption about alcohol with a seriously injured rider that was not in fact true. And everyone jumped on the bandwagon. You'd think you'd all learn...

Lived in Hornby for 20 years and know (knew) this road reasonably well. A good mate was killed going straight through a stop sign and hit a car.

Tragedy for all.

TG he didn't take someone else out.

Hang on - I'm sure someone can throw in a "fucking cagers" comment. (Even if it's not warranted).

From your recent posts, it seems that you don't feel any kinship with other motorcyclists.

In that case, can you please post up a piccy and the rego of your bike(s) so that when a KBer spots you in a ditch or broken down, we can quietly ride on by without threatening you with any help or support.

PS: As has already been pointed out, the word is gnashing.

Yikes, that is the end of my street; but I was in Blenheim for the funeral of my aunt. Was there any report in the Press. Anything on the rider or type of bike?

The road does have a bit of crap on it but nothing to cause that much concern.
